Two bedroom, two bathroom property in the woods
Built in the former sheepfold, this self-catering apartment has exposed wooden beams, floor to ceiling glass doors opening on the lawn, and a large and sunny communal space. Bedrooms are located on either side of the living area, providing maximum privacy. A private wooden pergola perched between fig trees provides a lovely space for outdoor meals, bbq, and relax.
The rent is part of a typical Tuscan colonica house, divided into 4 apartments and surrounded by a truffle forest. It has a 10x5 m swimming pool shared with the other apartments, open from May to September. The house can be reached with a 10-minute drive on a dirt road in our 500 hectares (1200 acres) organic farm.
Being a real working farm, we ask our guests to expect rustic environment, friendly welcome and dedicated daily support. Our mission is offering our guests an authentic contact with nature and to promote personal relationships. That's the reason why in our apartments there's no tv, nor dvd players, nor air conditioning (but fans are provided during summer). Nevertheless, due to their inner structure the houses are pretty cool during summer and you'll have wi-fi connection at the apartment. Linen, towels, hand soap and dish soap are provided. Hair dryers, toasters, baby equipment are available under request. Please note the rate does not include heating, that we ask a contribution of € 3/cubic meter for, based on your usage.
The farm is not far from the main Tuscan cities: 50 minute driving from Pisa and Florence, 1 hour and 15 minutes from Siena and Lucca, 30 minutes from San Gimignano, Volterra, Certaldo and San Miniato.
We offer our guests many activities on site, as cooking classes, sour dough bread baking classes, walking, truffle hunting (from October to December), massages, fishing and more.

Fifteen years ago I transformed my family's historic estate into an organic agriturismo. Since then, I divide my time between Florence, where I live with my wife and our three children, and the farm. Barbialla Nuova is 500 hectares of forests and pastures, 100% organic, where we raise Chianina beef, hunt for white truffles and produce honey & olive oil. There are two families that live and work on the farm - Ilaria, Francesco and their daughter Gaia who help me with the agriturismo and Frank, our talented Dutch carpenter, farmer and night guardian, with his girlfriend Sofie. You can find me at the farm two days per week. We're all always happy to share the secrets of the area with our guests, so you can be sure to find the best restaurant, farm shop, artisan goods or simply the best way to spend a rainy day with the kids.

Why Guido chose Montaione
It's my family's historic estate.
What makes this Farmhouse unique
We work a lot to maintain Barbialla as the paradise it is. I love it because it is a corner of beauty and pure, rustic, authentic nature.

The surroundings are genuinely dedicated to tourism and agriculture and therefore offer a rare glimpse into authentic Tuscany. There are multiple organic farms & local producers in the area. The farm is an hour drive from Firenze, Pisa, Livorno, and one hour and 15 minutes from Siena and Lucca. San Gimignano, Volterra and less hectic Certaldo & San Miniato are very close (about 30 minutes drive). Our dedicated guide book that we give you at check in will help you get the most out of the area, with tips on how to visit a local goat cheese farm, where you're most likely to spy some wild boars, which wineries are worth stopping in on, what classic drink you should order when visiting Livorno, the best artisans for souvenir shopping, and more.
