This home was built in 1950 by Dr. Walter and Jane Stover. He was a local physician who practiced in Marfa from 1948-1976. Besides being a housewife and dietitian, Jane became an artist. She and a friend were the first students of National Academy artist Frank Gervasi. Their four children (who now live in Alpine, Dallas, Houston, and Round Rock) decided to update their childhood home for their own use and for others to enjoy.

Large corner lot with privacy fenced back yard. Space for special event hosting with all the kitchen amenities necessary like double ovens, dishwasher and serving space. This home has been enjoyed by our family for the past 63 years and we want others to create special memories here, too!
The place is spacious and clean. We did not expect it to be as big. The location is great a walk only a five minute walk to downtown. We did have w minor issue kitchen sink was not draining but property manager was able to find someone on a Saturday in a remote are to remedy issue. As a vacation property owner myself I know this task can be difficult on the weekends but she came through. I highly recommend this place if you plan to entertain some people or have large family
The Stover House was a great place to stay during our trip to Marfa. The backyard is lovely with a wonderful patio. The house is spacious and is in a great location which made all the attractions in town accessible. I would happily stay here again.
A girlfriend and daughters indulged me with a quick trip to Marfa. A good friend living in the area recommended Stover House - and am I glad! We arrived Friday afternoon and left Sunday morning. The rental agent was great, contacting me earlier to ensure our arrival would be smooth. The house is truly a 1950's delight with many original features. Spotless and comfortable. Two large living areas (with great fireplaces!), comfortable beds, good, well-equipped kitchen, and a great back yard for happy hour(s)! The town has a unique charm that if you're reading this, you will understand. We stayed in town Saturday and walked all over - which is a great attraction for me - getting to eateries, book store, grocery, etc. I am returning with more family for a longer stay in a few months! And looking so forward to it!
We had 3 families, each with one child, and a grandmother in the Stover House for Thanksgiving. There was lots of room for all and the house still managed to be cozy--loved the fireplace in the living room! The house is located in walking distance of the town of Marfa and a huge playground is also right down the road! We were able to make and serve a delicious Thanksgiving dinner there, but missed a potato masher--all other utensils were there.
We arrived late Thursday evening for a long weekend on our first trip to Marfa and could not have asked for a better place to stay. A charming, period decorated home, lent for a perfect weekend. Ideally located with plenty of amenties and rooms to lounge and relax in. Our favorite aspect of Stover House was the expansive back patio.. overall a true gem in the middle of a charming, quaint town!
A group of six friends and I came through Marfa coming off of a backpacking trip in Big Bend.
The Stover House made our stay in Marfa easy and comfortable, and I would recommend for anyone with a large group.
I wish we could have stayed longer!
