Our lovely home, Three Bears IN THE VALLEY, is located in the mountains of beautiful Canaan Valley at the Windwood Fly-In Resort. Surrounded by spectacular views of the Timberline and Canaan Valley ski areas, cascading mountains, and beautiful Mother Nature, our extraordinary home and its surroundings will take your breath away and alleviate your stress.
Unique to this mountain-top community, the 3000 x 40 foot airstrip, partly visible from our home, can accommodate most small planes and helicopters and is a great attraction to many flight enthusiasts. Amelia’s family-style restaurant is located just a short walk from our home in the Windwood Resort building. It boasts the Valley’s best breakfast and cinnamon rolls and is also open for lunch and dinner--just another way to relax on your special vacation! (Check hours, as they change seasonally.)
Three Bears offers a convenient and open floor plan with beautiful Brazilian cherry floors throughout the main areas. A fully equipped, modern kitchen, spacious dining area, cozy living space with fireplace, and a comfortable TV area will make this a family-friendly retreat you will long to return too. The spacious kitchen has stainless steel appliances, genuine linoleum flooring, granite countertops, and a large breakfast bar perfect for entertaining. Adjacent to the kitchen is a large four-plank, country-style farm table with bench seating, large enough to accommodate six people comfortably. A gas log fireplace and cozy living area with spectacular views await your tired body after a spectacular day enjoying the great outdoors. A fully equipped entertainment area with a flat screen TV, cable, and DVD player awaits you on those days you want to just be inside and relax.
Also on the first floor you will find the “Spoke & Crank” room, a quaint bedroom decorated in all things cycling (a passion of ours), perfect for the cycling aficionado! The queen-size Sleep Number bed is a special treat for those achy bones, and there’s plenty of closet space for your luggage, making this first-floor room a real escape. A full-size bathroom with a tub/shower is also located on the first floor next to the bedroom. The laundry area, located next to the main entrance, will provide you easy clean-up options for the duration of your stay.
The second floor of our home is comprised of two spacious bedrooms (fully carpeted) and a charming full size bath. The “Whispering Water” room, the large master bedroom, is situated on the front of the home and allows for spectacular views of the surrounding mountains and ski areas. Accommodations in this room are fabulous, including a king size Sleep Number bed, spacious sitting area for reading or relaxing, and a flat screen TV. The “Great Black Bear” room, and second bedroom on this floor, is really a treat for the kids or additional guests, with two twin-sized beds and a futon sofa for relaxing. A large closet stocked with board games and other fun things will keep the family busy if being inside is where you want to be.
The side deck area has a relaxing private hot tub (four people) with views of the mountains and a nice sitting area for that relaxing morning or evening break. The front deck has a picnic table that seats up to eight for those pleasant outside dinners in front of the mountains.
Our home is comfortable, cozy, inviting, and very nicely decorated with heirlooms of local interest and historical significance. The original artwork is all done by local WV artists and our family. We ask that you enjoy and appreciate these items, and if any piece is of special interest, please contact Mountaintop Realty, and we will be happy to provide information on where you can purchase it or have it made.
Thank you for choosing Three Bears IN THE VALLEY, and we hope that you enjoy it as much as we do. We look forward to your stay!

Perfect home away from home
I can't say enough good about this little treasure nestled in the Canaan Valley. The pictures do not do this justice! No detail was overlooked in this stunningly crafted, comfortable and well-apointed home. When traveling, I am a stickler for cleanliness and this home did not disappoint! From the moment we walked in, we felt at ease. The owners have done a spectacular job of decorating and furnishing this lovely home. The home is stocked with everything one would need for a relaxing getaway. Situated close to the quaint and lovely towns of Davis and Thomas and a short drive to the Canaan Valley, we found the location perfect for our explorations. We came to explore the area by motorcycle and this area of WV does not disappoint. Some of the most stunning back country roads I've seen yet, a little slice of heaven. If you need to unplug from the hustle and bustle and just get away, this part of God's country is simply perfect. Thank you for opening your home to us!
From the moment we walked into this lovely house, it felt like home. It had all the amenities we needed and it is beautifully decorated. We enjoyed the children's artwork as well as the themed decor. Each of us had plenty of room. The pictures on the website do not do this home justice! In the evening we enjoyed the hot tub after spending the day hiking and exploring the area. One of our favorite moments from the weekend was spent on the deck relaxing while eating pizza and having a bottle of wine. We hope this home is available when we return to the area to ski next winter!
Beautiful, comfortable and convenient
I rented this property for a short trip to check out Canaan Valley, didn't want to get too spendy with something slope side so I went with this home. I am very happy with this choice! This home is beautiful and very well appointed. The floors look to be recently redone with a lovely brazilian cherry. The kitchen is lovely, appliances are all very recently updated it seems and the bar sitting area is great to feed kids another round of freshly cooked pancakes. The beds are comfortable, the linens are warm, the blankets are a plenty. There are two tvs with cable in the home, enough that there is a nice distraction, but they are not the focus of the home. Instead you are steered toward conversation with family and friends, perhaps a board or card game. I wasn't sure that we'd end up using the hot tub, but we did, every night, and we loved it. You can see so many stars in this area on a clear winter night, and sitting in that hot tub staring at the cold starry sky was something my kids and I will certainly remember.
The views from this spot in the valley are great, you can see both Timberline and Canaan Valley lights on the slopes at night. The home is about ten minutes from both, very conveniently located. The pizza spot Siriannis is good and cheap (cash or check only!). They have a little satellite restaurant right across street from the realty office you pick the keys up at, as well as another main location in downtown Davis. There is also a gas station and small store with a Subway sandwich shop right at the road into the neighborhood. Downtown Davis is about 10 minutes away too if you feel like going out for a night on the town.
Canaan Valley is good, bunny slope is great for the kids (or novice adults like me). The tubing park is a hoot for everyone, even my four year old. The whole area is really quite breath-takingly beautiful, and I love the unpolished, bare-bones feel of it all.
I have two critiques to pass on to the owners. The internet router password was unknown, one on router wasn't correct and the two suggested by the realty office were not either. Luckily I have my own hotspot, so no issue, but other renters might find this a problem in this connected day and age. My other critique is the master bedroom's big windows. Of course you want a nice view of the mountains, but it would be nice if there were some curtains or shades that could be drawn for privacy and sleeping in later than the sunrise.
