Mukwonago Estate Rental Photos and Description

Huge 8BR Main house, 3BR Guest House, w/ 26 Acre Private Lake amidst 1100 acres

Come and truly Get-Away-From-It-All at Lakewood. With a 6,500 square foot 8 bedroom main house and an optional 3 bedroom guest house and a setting like no other, you and yours will make memories that will last a lifetime. Main house sleeps 20, guest house will sleeps 16-20

Located just 90 minutes from Chicago and between Milwaukee and Lake Geneva, Lakewood is easily reached whether you are staying for a long weekend getaway or a full vacation. Lakewood is a 1,000 acre property with a private 26 acre lake nestled inside. Depending on the season, the lake is great for a swim, a float, a sail, a kayak, a paddleboard, fishing, some broom ball or ice skating. The surrounding land offers plenty of outdoor activities during any season. Don’t worry if you forgot to bring something as you are only a ten minute drive from downtown Mukwonago with great local shops as well as a familiar Walgreens and Walmart.

The “Big House” at Lakewood is designed to please, with floor to ceiling windows across the expanse of the vaulted ceiling double great room to give you beautiful views of the lake. With eight bedrooms including two on the first floor, there is ample room at the Big House.

When you have a bigger group and need a bit more room, add our Guest House to your stay. Renovated in 2015 the Guest House has three bedrooms, a sitting room, and a full bath. Just a few steps away from the Main House, the Guest House sleeps 16-20 with six bunk beds (four of which are twin over full) and two sleeper sofas.

The kitchen is fully furnished and equipped, should you choose to cook inside rather than on the two gas grills outside. The kitchen features a 60” Wolf gas stove complete with two full size ovens, six burners, and a double griddle. A stainless steel refrigerator/freezer and stainless steel dishwasher are also in the main kitchen. There is a second refrigerator/freezer in the laundry room.

The great room is arranged into multiple conversation settings with the mid-century furniture. There is a massive arched sofa, a coffee table, and two leather chairs near the fireplace and tv. Another area provides for conversation and viewing through the large floor to ceiling windows. And just off the great room are the sliding glass door to the screened in porch (a terrific evening spot) and the door to the game room.

There are two bedrooms on the first floor with a full bath in between equipped with a walk in shower. There is a pocket door to close off the bedrooms from the main floor. The second floor has a similar two bedroom setup with a sliding door for additional quiet but with a shower/tub combination as well as four additional bedrooms along a balconied hallway with two more bathrooms between each pair of rooms. Eight bedrooms in total with four full bathrooms are currently equipped to sleep 20 in beds.

The patio off of the screened in porch offers a dining table as well as a fire pit for evening fun. Wonderful views of the entire lake abound. Just a few steps around the corner and near an entrance to the house through the oversized first floor laundry room is an additional patio with two full sized picnic tables and a gas grill. This is a great spot for feeding family members who wish to stay in their bathing suits in the summer without having to worry about messing up the dining or breakfast rooms. Across the yard is a backstop and baseball ‘diamond’ for those so inclined. Just up the hill from there is a fenced-in tennis court with a half-court basketball setup.

The two story boathouse features a screened-in porch as well as access to an outdoor deck overlooking the beach and lake. The view from the deck is a view like no other when you realize you are in the midst of a private paradise. The beach below is an ideal spot for sunbathing, kicking back, and for the younger set to play in the sand and shallow water. There is a dock with a built in bench seat that provide some great fishing as swimming opportunities. Launching kayaks, canoes, “Lily pad” rafts, Sunfish sailboats, rowboats, etc. from the beach and pier makes enjoying the full lake experience unforgettable.

Owners who take pride in the property and strive to provide a great experience for our guests. We are happy to help with everything from horseback riding to restaurant recommendations. Thank you for considering Lakewood!

About David O'Bryan

We are the First, Second, Third, and Fourth generation of a large, Chicago based family. Deep Family roots pull us from all over the US and Ireland to Lakewood Farms in Mukwonago, Wisconsin.

David O'Bryan purchased this estate in 1937

Why David O'Bryan chose Wisconsin

We have grown up, worked on and enjoyed Lakewood Farm for 75 years. Only 1 1/4 hours from O'Hare International Airport, it is as much a part of our DNA as our heritage. The farm offers a unique, private destination for family adventure, family milestones and family reunions.

What makes this estate unique

At any given time of the day, we sit at the top of the hill and will see family members swimming across the lake, a sailboat heeling in the wind, kayakers catching turtles in Turtle Heaven, row boats with fishing poles casting and catching, kids romping on the 'lily pad' off the pier, and sunbathers enjoying the beach. The 'Big House' features a great room with eight picture windows overlooking the lake, kitchen with eat-in breakfast room, dining room, game room, mud/laundry room. Two bedrooms, one full bath and two half baths are on the first floor. Six bedrooms and three full baths are on the second floor. Most of our memories are made outside where children can hike to roller-coaster or caterpillar hills, or back to the Mukwonago River or the sand pit or to the little barns or through the fields and trails...picking berries, catching toads, collecting wild flowers and taking pictures of our favorite Lakewood spots. Sledding in the winter, hiking through the woods to see the fall colors, playing softball on the baseball diamond or tennis at the tennis court provide plenty of alternative activities for everyone.

Guestbook comments from the owner

Thank you for allowing us to come here for another wonderful vacation.

As the kids get older, they are using more of the property. The Lily Pad is the all time favorite followed by tennis, the swing, and baseball.

My husband and I love it here because it provides us with the opportunity to have our whole family under one roof.

Thank you again for the welcome gifts, we all enjoyed it.

Best always,

Beautiful space, inside and out, with everything you could possibly want for a getaway

  • 5 of 5

Wonderful owners, exactly as advertised if not better, wish we could have been there in the summer or fall rather than the beginning of spring so that we could have had green or colored leaves on the trees.

Wedding Bliss!

  • 5 of 5

Last weekend, we were lucky enough to host our wedding at Lakewood Farms. Wow! What a beautiful venue! We had a backyard ceremony and a front yard tented reception. We had about 70 guests! We had a beautiful fall backdrop. The trees were just starting to change colors and the weather couldn’t have worked out better. It was simply perfect! So many of our guests complimented the beautiful property and wondered how we found it. They thought it was just wonderful! David and Tim were amazing to work with! Any question we had was answered very easily! We greatly appreciated the communication we had with them! We were able to host our immediate families between the main and the guest houses. So spacious! The day after the wedding, the kids were able to enjoy the lake! It might have been too cold to swim, but there were many of other ‘toys’ to keep them occupied! I am certain our wedding weekend will be a lifelong memory for many of our nieces and nephews! They were upset when they had to leave. Thank you for letting us use your property to host our wedding! Your home and property has left a lasting impression on many!

Vacationing in a Norman Rockwell painting...

  • 5 of 5

An incredible vacation retreat on a lake in southern Wisconsin. This place is fantastic! If you want to create family memories, this place is for you. Spacious house, private lake, swimming, fishing, kayaking, paddle-boarding, horse-back riding, hiking and a nearby 9-hole golf course. I can't say enough great things about this place.

Annual Friend Retreat

  • 5 of 5

We get together annually with friends and through the years our group has gotten larger with the addition of kids. Lakewood Farms was amazing! The bedrooms were great, the large living room was amazing and the eating and kitchen spaces met our needs. We had a wonderful ice skating and sledding - very thankful for the mud room and all of the hooks on the wall! This was the best year we have had as a group in the 7 years we have been getting together! Could not have asked for better accommodations!

Hard to put the scale of this property into words

  • 5 of 5

My friends and I could not get over how unique this property was. The sheer scale of the property and its views are difficult to describe. The photos on the site barely do it justice. The house was definitely built to host large groups simultaneously with plenty of room for relaxing without feeling like you're on top of each other. There were plenty of bedrooms for privacy, a huge kitchen and ample cooking space to prepare meals for a large group and a great number of activities on and around the property. It was almost surreal to have that much land to ourselves and no neighbors to be concerned with when it came to noise around the fire late at night. The home itself has a great 60s vibe with wonderful furniture from the period that didn't make the home feel dated. Their caretaker, who lives on property around the lake, couldn't have been more helpful. I plan to take family and friends back to Lakewood Farms for years to come.
