About Maria Rosenkranz

We love historic homes and live in one ourselves. We have raised 4 children, 3 still at home and appreciate the need to have a place to just relax. We love the historical context of the John Misener Jr. house, located on the original battle of Lundy's Lane. Ralf, who is a finish carpenter has a passion for restoring historic homes, and has worked on historic homes mainly in NOTL. We want to make sure that those that come here have the choice to enjoy the peacefulness and beauty of the property or go to be a part of all the action not too far. Enjoy drinks on the front porch, or chill in the back yard while something is cooking on the BBQ.

Maria Rosenkranz purchased this house in 2011

Why Maria Rosenkranz chose Ontario

John Misener Jr. was the son of the original carriage maker of Drummondville, who worked with his father in the trade. The home as been lovingly maintained by the next owners, and then ourselves. We gave the house all the up to date amenities while maintaining it's historic charm. The 1700 sq ft house with 220+ foot lot gives you lots of space to relax indoors or out. While staying, you will discover old and new; every room has something from the past that you can discover.

What makes this house unique

We fell in love with this house because of the historical importance, the unique and original architecture and the meandering gardens, outbuildings on the property. The people who lived here cared about the property and only sold it to us knowing that we would respect it's integrity. You can see the fireworks over the falls from the front, or you can walk 10 min to the falls to see them close up.

Great Historic Home - Close to Falls!

  • 5 of 5

Highly recommend staying in this beautiful house. There was seven in our group and we had plenty of room, not crowded at all. Incredible history with the place!

Beautiful quaint old house close to the falls

  • 5 of 5

This house met all our needs and expectations! Plenty of towels and linens, kitchen stocked with plenty of pots and pans. The kids loved being able to pet Waldo, the outdoor cat, when he was around. Loved all the old books, knick knacks, and antiques all throughout the house.

There is a WeGo bus stop fairly close to the house (about a five minute walk), which made it easy to get to the Falls and Clifton Hill with ease. My one and only complaint was a bit of lack of communication about how to access the house when we arrived. No one was at the house when we arrived, so we had to call the number provided, and then had to wait 10 minutes for the son to arrive to give us an abbreviated tour and description. I was able to meet Maria briefly a couple of days later, and all was good. Overall, we had a great stay, and would definitely recommend this house!

The house was very interesting; very historical. Enjoyed the surroundings, the house was very clean, beds comfortable, fully equipped. Being within walking distance to falls in Ca. and USA was a real plus so as to not having to pay for parking.

Sitting on front porch drinking coffee in the morning was very quite and relaxing. Took in the back yard in the afternoon sitting at table and enjoyed the evening.

Only stayed two nights but very accommodating and enjoyable.

Only drawback; washer/dryer not available.

Loved our stay!

  • 5 of 5

The house had a ton of charm and character! Beds were comfortable and shower had plenty of hot water for the 8 people that stayed there. The owners, Ralf and Maria, were so friendly and helpful, even had fresh showers waiting for us when we got there. They thought of the little things too, like q-tips in the bathroom. Tons of things to do in the area and Maria had lots of info for us about the area at the house.

Great Home Base!

  • 5 of 5

We stayed in this home with another family that we've been friends with for years. They live in Michigan and we're from PA, so Niagara Falls was a good "in between" spot to meet up. We had 4 adults & 5 kids and this home worked great! It was a great location - about 3/4 of a mile walk to the Falls for those that can handle walking a little bit. It's an older home so has lots of unique features, but still all the modern things needed to make family life work. Probably the only thing that would have been great to have was another full bath, but there is a 2nd half bath, and honestly, we all did just fine! We loved the front porch for coffee & breakfast and enjoyed our visits from "Waldo" the outdoor house cat. He's a sweetie! The books on Niagara Falls were so interesting - we enjoyed reading them to the kids and sharing the history with them. There were plenty of towels/linens and the kitchen was well-stocked. We used the fire ring on our last night there to make s'mores with the kids. Also, really appreciated the paper products (toilet paper/paper towels/soaps/etc) that were there - some rentals don't provide that stuff and it can be a real pain if you just spent 8 hrs on the road and forgot to bring toilet paper and there's none there. :) Oh and the maps and the binder of local information was GREAT! We took one of the town maps with us everywhere. It was so handy to have. Thanks again for letting us use your lovely home! We really enjoyed catching up with our friends & exploring the Niagara area. This was a great home base and we loved it!

Great getaway that felt like home

  • 5 of 5

We stayed at this home May 24-28. We had a 3 generation girls' long weekend, ranging in age from early 20's to mid 60's. This cute home was so close to the falls that we were able to walk to find them (thanks to the hints and shortcuts provided to us by our host), which was in and of itself an adventure. Ralf was a wealth of information on the area, directing us to delicious destinations for dinner, fantastic bakeries, and we even spent a super fun rainy day traveling to the local wineries. During the entirety of our stay we felt comfortable and secure under the capable watch of the resident feline host, Waldo, who added even more charm to this adorable, cozy home. The only negative things I could even muster would be a lack of good lighting and mirrors for applying makeup and the issue of the claw foot bathtub (which was awesome for a bath). It was the only shower in the home, was quite small and hard to get in and out of, lacked space for toiletries like shampoo, and was difficult to see, surrounded by heavy shower curtains, and we are all short ladies. Can't imagine a tall person having an easy time of it and just generally I would worry about older folks climbing in and out of it, as there's nowhere to hold on. Having said that, it's a quirky, cute old home that was clean, comfortable, and the hosts were great. Would definitely recommend and would choose this home again. This is a perfect location, quiet neighborhood so close to but set apart from the hustle and bustle of the touristy areas. We hardly used our car...we did use the bus occasionally which got super full on the weekend. This home would be absolutely perfect for anyone who would like to walk or bike to the attractions. Thanks again to Ralf, Maria (meet you next time), and the super sweet Waldo!
