Prince Edward County Cottage Rental Photos and Description

2 bedroom, 1.5 bathroom 1200 Sq Ft year round Cottage

The Blue Door Cottage is a two bedroom, 1.5 bathroom cottage found on the Island of Prince Edward County in Ontario Canada.

This clean, sunny cottage has been owned since new.

It is situated in a quaint quiet country garden setting across the road from lakefront (no direct lake access).

The large back deck and stone veranda are great spaces for spending time with family or friends while the front stone veranda, reached via paths through the large stone garden, is ideal for watching the incredible Southbay sunsets over the lake with a glass of local sparkling.

Once the sun sets, guests can light a fire in the outdoor fire pit which is found within a large stone circle built and walled with stone from local farmers' fields.

About Peter Barker

We have owned this cottage since new and have transformed the property from a blank canvas to it's own little ecosystem in hopes of creating the perfect County retreat.

When we began this project, landscaping was simply a hobby but it has quickly become a passion, one that we are eager to share.

We hope to continue to build on our efforts in order to meet and cater to our guests needs.

Why Peter Barker chose Ontario

This lovely cottage is located in South Marysbourg approx 20 km south of the town of Picton. Marysbourgh is a historic township in southern Ontario, Canada. It is one of the three original townships that formed Prince Edward County. The other two townships were Ameliasburgh and Sophiasburgh. Originally known as Fifth Township, it was renamed in 1786 after Princess Mary, the fourth daughter of George III. In 1871, the township was split into North and South Marysburgh townships. These two townships were amalgamated into the Corporation of the County of Prince Edward, a single tier municipality, on January 1, 1998.

After the American Revolution, a group of Germans who had fought as mercenaries settled in the area, one of the first German-speaking settlements in the province. Around the same time, former English and Irish soldiers also came to this area. One of the prominent regiment of soldiers to settle here was 84th Regiment of Foot (Royal Highland Emigrants). An Ontario Historical Plaque was erected in front of the museum by the province to commemorate the Marysburgh Settlement's role in Ontario's heritage.

What makes this cottage unique

Little Bluffs Conservation Area, only minutes from The Blue Door Cottage, is one of the best and most secluded swimming areas in The County. Little Bluffs beach is a perfect location for a family swim followed by a relaxing picnic lunch or dinner.

For dessert, you can drive down the road to Black River Cheese Factory to sample their cheese and indulge in their great selection of ice-cream.

If you're here during the tomato harvesting season, you can take your family and friends to the Tomato tasting event at Vickis Veggies where she offers over 100 different tomato varieties to taste. Vicki is one of The County's superstars who has been running her organic vegetable and fruit farm for several years now with accolades from all over the country.

If wine is your thing, The County is the place to be. With over 30 wineries on this little island, the wine traveler is spoiled for choice.

Guestbook comments from the owner

Thank you for sharing your beautiful cottage with us. We couldn't have found a nicer place to introduce our guest from London to the beauty of the county.

Lovely, cozy place with friendly, helpful hosts.

My only regret was that we were only able to stay two nights at this wonderful little place, which is just as cozy and cute as the pictures would have you believe. Highly recommend visiting in fall, since the bright colors in all the lovely little towns nearby were spectacular.

Wonderful part of the world, and a wonderful place to experience it.

very Pleasant stay

  • 5 of 5

A great experience - Peter looked after all our needs, communication was fast and easy.

The outdoor pit and covered patio deck are awesome, roasting marshmallows was appreciated by our 4 yr old, as was running through the garden paths chasing the butterflies.

Very relaxing and well worth the stay - having easy access to the parks, cheese factory (amazing Ice cream too! ) and local shops well recommended.

Fresh Bread (made to order) from the local store is something also to take advantage of.

Be warned - the local birds are very good alarm clocks!! :-)

Le cottage est très propre. Les lits et literie extra. La cuisine est complète: les couteaux sont même bien aiguisés!. La terrasse avec moustiquaire permet de prendre tous les repas à l'extérieur. Le jardin est splendide et les environs très calme. Repos garanti.

A Lovely Cottage

  • 5 of 5

I spent a lovely and relaxing week here with my young daughter. What a gorgeous part of Ontario! We had lots of fun sampling ice cream from all over the county, swimming, throwing rocks in the water at Little Bluffs, and shopping in many little stores. Books & Co in Picton and Green Gables in Bloomfield were my favourites. Barley Days Brewery and Black River Cheese are also great. Lake on the Mountain is gorgeous!

Blue Door Cottage is very well maintained. The gardens, screen porch, and fire pit really stand out. You can tell that Peter & Annie really care for this property. Pride of ownership all the way! :)

They are not joking about the bug spray though. County mosquitoes are THIS BIG! ^_^

A wonderful experience.

  • 5 of 5

We have vacationed in PEC for a number of years, but this was our first stay at The Blue Door Cottage. We loved it! From watching fireflies at night to cozying up on the sofas to watch movies, it really made our vacation relaxing and fun. As a family of four, we really appreciated the comfort indoors and the beautiful grounds and firepit outdoors. The owners have thought through every detail, and were very easy to communicate with. We hope to stay there again!

Perfect comfortable, quiet getaway

  • 5 of 5

This cottage was a wonderful getaway for my girlfriends and I. It was perfectly comfortable. We greatly enjoyed barbecuing and relaxing with our meals in the screened-in porch, and bonfires in the evenings. There was lots to do during the day from wine tasting to beach-combing, and exploring the shops in the quaint surrounding towns (Bloomfield has a cute tiny library and fantastic ice cream shop). The owners have thought of everything, and were very quick to respond when we had trouble with the bbq. The cottage is kept in tip-top shape, with everything you need for a comfortable stay.

I hope to spend some time at The Blue Door Cottage with my family in the future, and maybe come back again one day with my girl friends as well :)
