Located 90 minutes from the Orlando area, 60 minutes from Jacksonville, St. Augustine or Daytona, this area, known as the “Bass Fishing Capital of the World, has a lot going on including not only bass but many salt water species as well, hiking in the nearby Welaka State Forest or Dunn's Creek State Park, bird and alligator watch on the nearby famous Oklawaha River, boating to Silver Glenn Springs or Salt Springs, ferry over to Ocala National Forest, numerous restaurants and bars nearby such as Renegades Tiki Bar and Restaurant, River Pub, Shrimps R Us, Palms Café Blue, marinas, bait, boat rentals and even the 18 hole Live Oak Golf Course.

NOTE: Remodel in process and new photos to come. All new tile, remodeled kitchen, bathrooms, new windows, doors, skylight and much much more to make this even a more enjoyable experience.

About Karen

This is our weekend retreat and a place we consider a hidden secret. We never want to leave but not retired yet so have to go back to our 'real lives'. We found this place while camping at Salt Springs and rented a boat for the day. It had just gone on the market and it was next door to a piece of property my husband had bought and sold over 20 years ago. He always wanted to be on the river but took him 20 years to make that dream come true.

Karen purchased this house in 2012

Why Karen chose North Central Florida

It was meant to be for so many reason and so many coincidences and fate that made this purchase possible we knew it was our destiny.

What makes this house unique

The Sunsets, The Owl That Comes Every Night Right At Dark, The Wildlife, The Fresh Breeze, The Quiet, The Smell Of The River, The View, The View, The View And The View!

Perfect!

  • 5 of 5

We planned a mini-family reunion over a long weekend and could not have asked for a better place to host it. The owners have clearly put much thought into making this property comfortable for guests. The spacious, newly renovated and wonderfully decorated river house is full of every conceivable item you might need, from plenty of linens, every kitchen gadget conceivable, and many little extras in each room. Outside it's the same: sitting spots, outdoor games, a firepit, kayaks, etc. The view of the river all by itself would be worth the cost! Stunning sunsets, boat traffic to watch go by, wildlife like small gators and big manatees visiting the docks, and more. Definitely recommend this one ~ Thanks, Karen & Jim!

Beautiful Home!

  • 5 of 5

Our family loved staying at this beautiful water-front home! Even in the heat of July, we spent every morning fishing or playing yard games. We kayaked and explored many of the canals. Wildlife was everywhere. The evening brought more fishing off the dock! Drove to Ravine Gardens State Park for a bit of hiking and nature fun - only 35 minutes away. The beautiful remodeled kitchen was perfect for family dinners and night time board games! The beds were comfy and gave us all a restful nights sleep. Thank you for opening up this home. We are sure to return!

Peaceful and Beautiful

  • 5 of 5

We needed to get away from stress -- and this was the perfect place for that! The home is in a quiet neighborhood of well spaced houses. It was very clean and comfortable, with plenty of linens, pots & pans, dishware, etc. Lovely granite countertops. Dimmers on several of the overhead lights. Plenty of storage space. Central air conditioning. Cushy recliner and recliner sofas in the family room. The water views from the family room and kitchen/dining area were peaceful -- and the St. Johns River is wide and looks almost like a private lake from this home. We enjoyed watching the wildlife around us too.

There are very few restaurants or businesses near to the house, but we found some good ones. The comfy furniture and fans on the screened porch were nice to have (weather was in the high 80's while we were there).

We want to go back whenever we can. Our son and grandson (nearly 5 years old) visited for an afternoon and evening -- and they want to go back sometime too. A medium gator floated by the dock while we were fishing and several large birds flew or walked through the yard, especially in the early evening. You can see the sunset right from the house -- or from the screened porch or dock.

We are so glad we were able to find this home online. It's a nice place to relax!

The house is well furnished and high quality

  • 4 of 5

A nice experience but a long way from civilization. The house lived up to the advertisement. Next time we will get closer to the coast.

Owner's Response: I am glad the house lived up to your expectation and sorry you did not realize you would be so far from the coast. I do provide the location in the listing so assumed you would know where it was located. And yes, we are in rural Florida, Old Florida, and not much around us which I do tell people. The house is suited for those that want a water front experience and enjoy the laid back surroundings.
