Hi- I am Liz. I have lived on Oak Island off and on for 25 years. It's friendly people and peaceful family friendly beach keeps drawing me back. I currently live in the NC mountains where I grew up and now feel lucky when I get to visit Oak Island. It always feels like I never left. When you visit you will feel at home too!
The cottage, called Way Out, is ocean front, has great sunrise and sunset views and is in a great location. It is in walking distance or quick drive to everything you need yet it is peaceful.
Everyone is comfy in Way Out. The knotty pine walls are reminiscent of many peoples childhood beach vacations and the leather furniture and laminate flooring make it a comfortable place to relax and know that it will all clean up, wipe up and be OK. So go ahead and spread your Seafood Bog out on the dining table, kick your feet up and watch the waves roll in or curl up and read a book.
Thanks for letting us enjoy your home. The traditional wood throughout reminded us of the early days when we stayed in Hatteras. It is a simple home yet perfect for kids and dogs. It has a great open floor plan in the living room/dining room with wonderful views of the ocean and beach so you can enjoy in any weather. The kitchen is nicely equipped if cooking is your thing while on vacation. There are many tasty restaurants. The house is located on a great stretch of beach which is almost completely empty this time of year. It was a perfect week weatherwise. It was a great getaway!
The cottage was everything we wanted. Liz was so very helpful with information and quick replies. Large open living/dining area. Very ample kitchen with some very nice cookware. It was clean and easy to live in. Being able to take our pets was the deal maker. They had a great time as well. We will for sure be returning as soon as we can. If you go in winter months be aware that several of the restaurants don't open until Wednesdays.
We loved, loved, loved our modest little cottage by the beach. It was perfect in every way.
Very good location, good mix of quiet and things to do/places to visit. One morning there were 30 small boats in front of the house--King Mackerel were running. Weather turned out to be perfect. Loved the view of Ocean Crest Pier from the deck. And liked being able to let the dog have a beach vacation, too. Cute place, especially the large, open common area. Enjoyed our stay there.
The Wayout is reminiscent of beach houses we used to stay at back in the day : ) Very comfortable and homey. A minor problem with a remote control was quickly resolved.
Otherwise everything else was great! We will be back next year! Sleeping oceanfront with the windows open is a luxury...
Super clean and comfortable. Outstanding views. Loved being so close to the beach. Also loved the laid back feeling! Would definitely return, and hope to vacation there again.
1/2 mile stroll along the white sand beach to fishing pier and ocean front dining. 3 miles from great localy owned restaurants, coffee shop and fresh fish monger as well as chain grocery. Explore nearby Southport where many movies are filmed along the water in this historic town. Take the ferry to car free Bald Head Island or to Fort Fisher's historical site and aquarium. 35 min to Wilmington and 1 hour to Myrtle Beach.
Please bring your own linens. Leave the house neat. Enjoy!!
