We love the South Shore of Lake Superior because it's so laid back. Cathy grew up in Ashland and enjoys reconnecting with old friends. Jim and Cathy both love sharing their log home with old & new friends. Whether it's summer or winter sports, beachcombing or just relaxing, it's a real retreat.
Cathy Manning purchased this cabin in 1999
The warmth of a massive stone fireplace and a beautifully crafted log home with plenty of space for friends and family. The South Shore is a peaceful area where one can participate in active sports, scenic boat trips or just enjoy the natural beauty of the area.
The screened in back porch looking towards the woods/river, our own nature trail along the 20 acres. Roasting marshmallows with the grandkids or an early morning cup of coffee on the front porch swing. And especially in fall and winter - an authentic Finish sauna for real relaxation! For those who love to cook the kitchen is fully equipped and inviting for guest participation. Fresh trout from Lake Superior can be purchased nearby or enjoyed at local restaurants.
The cabin sits on 20 wooded acres of solitude. Very comfortable and relaxing. Well equipped and clean. We had a great stay.
This is a charming log cabin set on 20 acres of privacy. It has everything you need. Very homey feeling. Love the porches and fire place in great room.
Great location, easy to get to places around to explore. A great find!
The Cranberry River retreat was the perfect spot for us to escape our daily lives and reconnect with each other! The weather was cool and we were able to enjoy the beautiful fireplace. We appreciated the abundance of dry firewood at our disposal. We spent time on the screen porch and followed the trails through the woods and along the river. The setting was beautiful. The cabin was very well supplied and clean. We spent time in Bayfield one day and drove to Duluth another day. The was a perfect spot for the four of us to relax and enjoy each other's company! I would definitely recommend this spot to groups of friends and families.
Very secluded, well maintained, and comfortable cabin. We completely relaxed and enjoyed all the amenities (screen porch, sauna, porch swing, peace/quiet). The cabin was very clean and well stocked with most everything you would need. Although it was approximately a 40 min drive to Bayfield, we liked the location since it was close to Meyers Beach and other hiking trails. The owners provided very helpful information to assist in making our stay enjoyable. I would highly recommend this rental.
My family (including two children ages 5 and 8) really enjoyed using this cabin as our home-base while we visited the south shore of Lake Superior. Not too far off the main road (Hwy 13), but tucked away on lovely grounds with the woods surrounding three sides of the house. Everything was perfectly clean and well-organized. We were not sure about the grilling situation and had brought our own charcoal, but turns out there is a gas grill (in addition to a charcoal Weber). Every time we wondered "Do you think the cabin has a (blank)", we found the item we were looking for. DVD player in the basement super easy to use. High quality pots and pans. The refrigerator was even stocked with several condiments. My only hiccup was that instead of a regular coffee maker there is a percolator - we had never used one before and I tend to freeze when faced with new (old) technology. But, we figured it out. There is TONS of firewood and a great fire pit with a picnic table nearby. The pillows were good, and there were loads of extra pillows and blankets in the closets. We are very happy we were able to stay at this property - it was a great treat for my family.
Cathy was very helpful and made registering easy. She is well organized and the cabin is well stocked.
My friends and I had a lovely stay, we ate at the local restaurants and spent the day in Bayfield shopping.
There is a little beach in Hebster and the kids played at the park there.
We had a great weekend, thanks Cathy!
Chequamegon National Forest is 'out the back door.' Bring your ATV, Snowmobile, Mountain Bike, XC skis, snowshoes or hikig boots. Fly fish on the Cranberry or nearby Brule River. Dogsledding is popular in winter.
