We are an active couple that enjoy downhill and nordic skiing, running, hiking, fishing, and cycling. We also enjoy just hanging out with family and friends in beautiful locales. This is a wonderful spot to do all of those activities!
Kelly purchased this house in 2010
This one-of-a-kind log cabin was built in 1979 by a celebrated log cabin architect. We remodeled it , keeping the original charm but bringing it up to modern standards.
We have vacationed in the Wood River Valley for over 2 decades and have arduously searched for the right property to buy. As soon as we walked into this house, we knew this was the one we would want to come to over and over.
The house is situated next to the woods about 1/4 mile from the main road. The river is not visible from the house but can be reached via a private path. Unfortunately, the beautiful setting loses a star because we could hear the traffic and not the river, which was our hope.
The kitchen is well-outfitted, with All-Clad pans and a full array of spices, but there was no gas grill on the porch, only a small charcoal one.
The signs around the house made the place a bit precious and less welcoming or lived-in, but our stay was very brief and mostly out of the home.
The deep leather couch and chair next to the kitchen made mealtime comfortable for the non-cooks, and the deck overlooking the aspens and cottonwoods served as a lovely place to gather. Bedrooms were small but fine, same with bathrooms.
A neighbor dropped by with his dog three or four times, which seemed odd and a bit intrusive.
Overall, it is a beautiful home that served our group well, but there may be less expensive alternatives along the river that offer a bit more seclusion.
We spent 4 days at this property in July 2016. It was the perfect size for our family of 5 and a great base camp for exploring the Sun Valley area. The house is just a short (and very scenic) drive from Ketchum/Sun Valley. Kelly was a great hostess, the house was very comfortable and well appointed. The highlights of our visit were fishing in the river and catching trout, and a visit one morning from a Great Horned Owl in the tree right off the back deck. I highly recommend this property!
Our family stayed here over the Christmas Holiday and everything was perfect. Hospitality was top notch from the owners and the concierge was superb. The newly remolded kitchen is excellent for cooking your special meals. Snow was too high to get to the Big Wood but that meant more snow for skiing on Baldy!
We travel here every year for a law conference and have tried a variety of places to stay. This year we brought my parents so we wanted something larger. The "cabin" was perfect. In a gorgeous location that makes you feel like you are part of this community, yet so close to the places we wanted to get to in Ketchum, Sun Valley and Hailey. Although we did not fish the river we enjoyed listening to it while sitting at the dining table. The décor is amazing and the kitchen was beyond perfect. The owner and management group were so helpful that it made the arrangements easy. We even got to watch one of the neighbors prize horses being shown. I recommend this to anyone who wants a little extra space and solitude!
I stayed here for my wedding weekend almost a month ago. I have reached out to the property owner and property manager several times and still have not heard back. The Damage Deposit is fairly substantial. There was certainly no damage when we left so there's no reason they would be holding it. If there was something wrong, I would have expected to be contacted weeks ago. This entire situation is very unprofessional.
The location is fabulous: close to town, but feels like it's out in the woods. The short walk to the river is worth taking - in the snowy cold, it was beautiful. The home is gorgeous, warm, and welcoming. The kitchen is large and incredibly well equipped: we cooked several dinners for family, and there was plenty of room for multiple cooks. Everything in the house is cozy and comfortable. But the best was coming in after a day of adventures outdoors to lounge on the comfortable couch and chairs in front of a crackling, roaring fire. This home is like a fantasy of what a Sun Valley home can be. We enjoyed our stay, and hope to return in the future!
The Wood River Valley/Sun Valley area is a year round paradise with world class skiing in the winter/spring and a host of outdoor activities in the summer/fall. Surrounded by aspens and cottonwoods on two acres, this charming 3 bedroom, 2 bathroom home feels secluded and private yet is conveniently located and is a 2 minute walk to the Wood River for fly fishing via private access. The Sun Valley River Run ski area is a quick 10 miles by highway.
