I guess I've been in love with the West for as long as I can remember. I grew up with stories of my Father's childhood on ranches in the Roaring Fork Valley of Western Colorado, before tractors came to that country. My Mother's Father was a book and record collector and had a wonderful collection of Western History and Art Literature.
In the last 36 years I've worked as a Ranch Hand, Range Rider, Horse Shoer, House Carpenter, Dude Wrangler, Hunting Guide and last but not least a Camp Cook. I've been doing pencil and pen drawings for most of that time. I've also, been playing guitar and writing songs for about 25 years now, which still surprises me?
My wife, Nancy and I live on the ranch, we raise hay, Skipper W Quarter Horses and Hell once in a while!
Come and see us! Ross
Privacy with views of Grand Mesa, quiet and peaceful. Watch the horses graze in the pasture. Beautiful sunsets against the dobie hills.
Bring your horse and ride on Grand Mesa or ride in our arena, pens available. Great place to stay when hauling horses.
Patricia and Landon,
We so enjoyed having you at the ranch and we hope you can come again next month and spend the whole week! The cards are on our website
Let me know if you have any questions.
The house is very comfortable to stay in and the surroundings are peaceful and relaxing. We appreciate the hospitality of the hosts. Nancy came by soon after we arrived to make sure we were settled and to answer any questions we had. Sadly, we were only able to stay one night and had to leave early the next morning. It would have been nice to be able to spend a few days there. Thank you.
My wife and 3 children stayed at the ranch in August, 2016 for 3 nights. We used it as a home base for a family reunion taking place in Cedaredge. The drive to Cedaredge was easy, and the Ranch was conveniently located to several of the attractions we visited including the Black Canyon, the Grand Mesa, Delta, Montrose, and even Ouray was not a bad drive.
The house has plenty of room - there are 3 bedrooms plus a large back room which could also be used as a large 4th bedroom. As an added bonus, there are 3 full bathrooms. It was very cool to wake up and watch horses grazing in the fields in front and behind the house and sometimes a visit from Badger (a very ranch friendly dog). Each of our three kids wanted to stay... and it is hard to get them to agree on much! I would note we did not have good cell phone or internet service. It actually turned out to be a very nice break from our typically hectic / internet-heavy lifestyle.
Nancy is an excellent host. Given our schedule, we did not have a chance to meet her in person at the beginning of our trip, but she reached out to me to make sure we had everything we needed. Later, we were able to meet and discuss the area. Her hospitality was another added bonus. I hope we are able to make a return visit soon and plan to stay here again.
We enjoyed having our family all together in the Kirkham ranch home. We were so comfortable in this clean, well equipped, art filled and spacious home. The ranch is beautiful. Ross and Nancy (and Badger) are fabulous! This was a great place for many day trips. Hiking Crag Crest was cool on a hot July day with a stop at Clark family farm for Palisades peaches. In an hour we were scrambling on trails up to Devils Kitchen at Colorado National Monument and visiting Grand Junction for a coffee shop. The Dominguez Canyon Wilderness provided a riverside hike which we followed up with a swim at Schweitzer Lake. A chocolate shop is just down the road. The stars are incredible! The Black Canyon of the Gunnison National.Park is within an hour, too. We highly recommend staying with the Kirkhams!
We had a wonderful stay at this lovely home! It was comfortable for the six of us.
We opted to stay in a "home" instead of hotel rooms so we could be more together and cook meals. There was plenty of tableware but was lacking a bit on the cookware side. We needed a big pot to cook spaghetti and a not so warped frying pan. Other than those 2 minor things, we enjoyed our stay very much and having a comfy home to come back to each day made the evenings very relaxing!
I would highly recommend this property!
Outstanding!! Ross and Nancy are the perfect hosts, very attentive and accommodating. We enjoyed our stay very much and look forward to a return visit. They’re home allows for the peace and quiet that we were looking for. Along with a wonderful view of the Grand Mesa.
We have stayed at this home several times now for different occasions. We have stayed both in the summer and in the winter and each time we have had a wonderful time! We love the wide open fields, horses, and dark skies with beautiful stars and bright moon.
We have had as few as two of us and as many as nine of us.
We definitely recommend that the first time you visit that you come in the daylight as it can be hard to find in the dark if you haven't been there before.
The owners are on site, available for questions, something missing from the kitchen...but never intrusive. We have even joined them for a campfire for some conversation, singing and S'mores!
The kitchen is well equipped and we love that it has 3 bathrooms. The master bathroom is equipped with facilities for those that have mobility issues. Be prepared for spotty WiFi access. The owners have tried to boost the signal but the house is in a valley and it's hard to get signal. It is a great time to be unplugged. If needed, you can get access from areas closer to the main house.
The town of Delta is about 10 minutes away with access to groceries and restaurants. Grand Junction is only about 45 minutes away if you want/need a bigger city.
We have rented houses in several states but this one is by far our favorite. We will be back as long as they will have us.
Thanks so much to Nancy and Ross for sharing their hospitality and their home!
