About Ross and Nancy Kirkham

I guess I've been in love with the West for as long as I can remember. I grew up with stories of my Father's childhood on ranches in the Roaring Fork Valley of Western Colorado, before tractors came to that country. My Mother's Father was a book and record collector and had a wonderful collection of Western History and Art Literature.

In the last 36 years I've worked as a Ranch Hand, Range Rider, Horse Shoer, House Carpenter, Dude Wrangler, Hunting Guide and last but not least a Camp Cook. I've been doing pencil and pen drawings for most of that time. I've also, been playing guitar and writing songs for about 25 years now, which still surprises me?

My wife, Nancy and I live on the ranch, we raise hay, Skipper W Quarter Horses and Hell once in a while!

Come and see us! Ross

Our stay was wonderful. The home was immaculate. Ross and Nancy could not have been friendlier or more helpful. We will consider this place again for another visit. Very quiet and beautiful. Thank you!

Great house on solitary ranch

  • 5 of 5

This house can accommodate well beyond our 2 couple getaway but it was perfect for us as a base to play golf and sight see in the area. Nice and quiet with plenty of bedrooms/baths and living area for either privacy or gatherings. Had everything we needed to a 3 day stay for fixing meals etc. Just bring the food. The cost of course is so good we could not pass it up even though it seemed like more than we needed but we will go back without hesitation on our next trip to the area and stay a little longer to take in some fishing, hiking and bike riding as well as golf. Owners live on sight next door and are great hosts.

Great place, great owners, I want to live there in retirement!

  • 5 of 5

The Horse Ranch was an excellent choice for us. The house was great, a multiple bedroom/bathroom, stand-alone house with attached 2.5 car garage. Nancy, one of our hosts had the inside absolutely spotless. The oven/range stopped working the morning of our arrival and we were contacted by Nancy with a new one to arrive from Denver that same evening, but it was a day later which was no big deal to us. The inside contained several beautiful handmade pieces of rustic furniture crafted by Ross, one of our hosts. He also was displaying handmade pictures on several walls along with some smaller prints that were available for sale. We had a front porch to sit on and a few hundred acres of property around. We played Frisbee and threw a football around in one of the fields and played with their dog. Ross & Nancy’s residence was about 300 feet away but that never was any concern for us. We chatted with them, especially Ross, and were invited to do a fire near their house one night but we were too pooped to stay up that evening. We were allowed to walk over to the stables and visit with the horses whenever we wanted. This was the most homey, inviting, and least expensive place we rented during our 2 week Colorado roadtrip but we were only there for 2 nights. At first it seemed kind of far from everything, but when we started driving, it wasn’t bad at all. The only negative that we discovered was that the WiFi was not good at all, but Nancy was hoping to get an extender in the future. This was not a big deal to most of us. If I was ever coming back to this area, I would, without hesitation, stay here again. Thanks Ross & Nancy for the wonderful time.
