I guess I've been in love with the West for as long as I can remember. I grew up with stories of my Father's childhood on ranches in the Roaring Fork Valley of Western Colorado, before tractors came to that country. My Mother's Father was a book and record collector and had a wonderful collection of Western History and Art Literature.
In the last 36 years I've worked as a Ranch Hand, Range Rider, Horse Shoer, House Carpenter, Dude Wrangler, Hunting Guide and last but not least a Camp Cook. I've been doing pencil and pen drawings for most of that time. I've also, been playing guitar and writing songs for about 25 years now, which still surprises me?
My wife, Nancy and I live on the ranch, we raise hay, Skipper W Quarter Horses and Hell once in a while!
Come and see us! Ross

Let me know if you have any questions.
The house was clean and well maintained. The house exceeded our every expectations from the listing on the VRBO site. The owners where very friendly and helpful. I would recommend this property to anyone that wants a very peaceful and relaxing vacation. I will stay here the next time I am in Colorado which I hope is very soon.
We were a group of 5 adults. It was important for us to find a reliable place to stay that was close enough to both the Colorado National Monument and Black Canyon of the Gunnison. We also needed a walk in shower to suit the two in our party who were handicapped. Kirkham Ranch was the perfect place for us to stay. Nancy greeted us at the house even though we arrived pretty late (10:00PM). She gave us a call to make sure we would be able to find the place OK in the dark.
The house itself was perfect for us. We took advantage of all four sleeping room areas, including the porch area. My mother-in-law and aunt really enjoyed how easy the shower in the master suite was for them to use. The gathering areas were everything we could hope for. The living room was comfortable, the kitchen was large and had everything we could need and the dining room table was a wonderful oak table to gather at.
Nancy and Ross were both exceptionally friendly and accommodating. We couldn't have asked for better service. Overall it was a wonderful stay!
We were only there for two days and there was just two of us, but we enjoyed every minute we were there. The house was super clean, bed comfortable, even the weather was great. We don't do mountains in the winter so can hardly wait for spring so we can go back. Ross & Nancy were great hosts and even the dog Badger made us feel at home. Definitely a 10 out of 10!
A group of us (6 adults) stayed at Ross and Nancy's place for a total of 4 nights at the end of August and had a simply wonderful time. The ranch house was perfect! It was simply furnished and marvelously spacious! The view outside the front window is fabulous. I should mention that the house was perfectly spotless.
We had everything we needed to throw a birthday party for one of our group plus we were able to invite another half dozen folks. It was a great time. We had everything we needed and all we had to do was ask and Nancy or Ross would furnish it for us. Our party ended with everyone (including Ross and his family) around the fire-pit with Ross playing guitar and singing. A perfect ending to a perfect day!
The house is very comfortable to stay in and the surroundings are peaceful and relaxing. We appreciate the hospitality of the hosts. Nancy came by soon after we arrived to make sure we were settled and to answer any questions we had. Sadly, we were only able to stay one night and had to leave early the next morning. It would have been nice to be able to spend a few days there. Thank you.
My wife and 3 children stayed at the ranch in August, 2016 for 3 nights. We used it as a home base for a family reunion taking place in Cedaredge. The drive to Cedaredge was easy, and the Ranch was conveniently located to several of the attractions we visited including the Black Canyon, the Grand Mesa, Delta, Montrose, and even Ouray was not a bad drive.
The house has plenty of room - there are 3 bedrooms plus a large back room which could also be used as a large 4th bedroom. As an added bonus, there are 3 full bathrooms. It was very cool to wake up and watch horses grazing in the fields in front and behind the house and sometimes a visit from Badger (a very ranch friendly dog). Each of our three kids wanted to stay... and it is hard to get them to agree on much! I would note we did not have good cell phone or internet service. It actually turned out to be a very nice break from our typically hectic / internet-heavy lifestyle.
Nancy is an excellent host. Given our schedule, we did not have a chance to meet her in person at the beginning of our trip, but she reached out to me to make sure we had everything we needed. Later, we were able to meet and discuss the area. Her hospitality was another added bonus. I hope we are able to make a return visit soon and plan to stay here again.
Enjoy the Grand Mesa, over 300 lakes for fishing, hiking, horseback riding and wildlife viewing. Grand Mesa also offers groomed cross country ski trails by the Grand Mesa Nordic Council, gmnc.org snow mobile trails and Powder Horn Ski Resort. The Gunnison River has 13 miles of Gold Medal Waters. Dominquez and Escalante Canyons that have Indian petroglyphs and old homesteader's cabins. Black Canyon of the Gunnison National Park. The Colorado National Moument. Ouray hot springs referred to as the Switzerland of America.
