Be careful when renting: very dated house with detailed review to follow

  • 2 of 5

The description and photos of this house is quite misleading: there are not "5 large bedrooms" - there are actually 4 bedrooms with 1 bedroom leading into a strange low-ceiling kid's room where adults can barely stand up straight (with exposed pipes and a foam head-bumper taped to the wall). There is another room with a large 3rd story deck that is closed off to renters. There is no "master bathroom": the downstairs room (the one with the animal print bedspread) is a shared bathroom with the main hallway by the front door. The other bathroom is upstairs with all the other bedrooms. There is no place to sit on the back deck so we had to move the patio table around from the front to the back, after I gave it a really good cleaning. The chairs were too dirty to sit in, so we put down towels and sat on those. The couches inside were very, very dirty and the dining chairs were stained and torn. The bay window cushion was stained (I covered it with a sheet). The closets did not have ample hangers and the kitchen cupboards were full of leftover food.

It was almost like the owners left for the weekend and rented the place out.

We couldn't walk in bare feet because the carpet tack strips are exposed. The back deck had a huge piece of broken countertop or a broken table just sitting there- it was a hazard for kids. We didn't worry about bringing sand into the house because the kitchen floor is stained and cracked. The water spout and ice maker in the fridge don't work. The kitchen drawers are stained inside and have no liners.

There is an old large-screen TV as the main TV in the living room so no HD service there. There are no dressers in the bedrooms to put clothing away in, so I had to stack my folded items on the floor of the closet. There were personal bathroom items in the downstairs bathroom including a hairbrush with actual hair in it. So gross.

My husband described it as a clean fraternity house.

It was clean: the carpet had just been cleaned, the bathrooms/showers/kitchen were clean so your money for maid service is working (but they don't touch anything outside (table/chairs).

The location is great and so is the half-circle driveway - easy to get in and out. We had no issues with hot water, the dishwasher, the microwave, the ping pong table, the hot tub, or the fooz ball table. Kids loved that built-in entertainment! If I were to stay here again (unlikely) I know what to expect and would not be disappointed like I was when we arrived.

Property Needs TLC

  • 2 of 5

We are annual summer renters in Incline and enjoy staying in different neighborhoods every summer. This house has great potential, but unfortunately was not up to our expectations for a vacation rental.

Pros: The house is very spacious. Having ping-pong, foosball and a hot tub was really nice to have. The yard space and location is great. The house is stocked with the essentials. The rental agency was easy to work with and thorough with the process of booking and responding to questions and concerns.

Cons: The house is VERY outdated. The floors squeaked everywhere you walked. Decor was very random and worn. Several things throughout the house did not work (outlets, light switches, screens, shades, etc.). There were stains and tears furnishings throughout the house (couches, chairs, bedding). It was hard to find kitchenware and many things had to be rewashed. The tv/media system was hard to figure out...there were at least 8 remote controls to work the system and some didn't work.

Thank goodness, we spent a lot of time at the lake and taking part in many of the outdoor activities Tahoe has to offer. The owner may want to consider putting some extra TLC into this house because it really does have a lot of potential!

House had most of what we needed. Great location and for a family with teens. Clean but dated. Stairs from first to second floor very steep. Not good for children or older people.

Good but not great.

  • 3 of 5

The kitchen was well equipped. It was a great location. The furniture and the carpet looked dirty. The home was not prepared for our stay. There was garbage left from previous rental. The towels were in the dryer in the garage and we didn't find them until next day. Some outlets didn't work. Overall it could be great with a few improvements.

Owner's Response: Hi Kathy, thank you for staying with us and the feedback. We are working on improving our cleaners response time. Unfortunately, they forgot to go back to the home and get the towels out of the dryer. This is not to our standard.
