Overview

Alaska Cabin Rental Photos and Description

Large (1100 Sq Ft) Log Cabin Sleeps 1-6 with private driveway and parking.

Welcome to Moose Walk Cabin. Your Alaskan home away from home is a two-story log home nestled on a quiet wooded lot by a large stream. The cabin is in a prime location, close to activities, but still remote enough to get that Alaska wilderness feel.

Perfect for aurora viewing, a romantic get away, family vacation, or extended stay.

LOCATION

Moose Walk Cabin is situated in the heart of all your Interior Alaska destinations: North Pole Alaska. Grocery stores, restaurants, gas stations, and the famous Santa Claus house are a short 4 miles from the cabin. Downtown Fairbanks and Fairbanks International Airport are a quick 20 minute drive.

WINTER VISITORS

If comfortably watching natures greatest winter exhibition (the Aurora Borealis) is on your bucket list; then you've found the right place. No one knows what time of night the aurora will appear. Stay nice and cozy snuggled on the couch in the cabin, while you anxiously gaze out the large picture windows for the mystical aurora to begin its dance. While outside capturing those magical moments, don't worry about getting cold and missing a single second of the aurora. Nestle up to a crackling fire in front of the cabin as the skies mesmerize you with magical hues of green, purple, and red. Paths on the frozen ice are kept free of snow for alternate aurora shooting locations.

The below link is your view of the aurora from the cabin living room.

The winter weather turns our fishing kingdom into your very own private ice skating arena and hockey rink. Sticks, pucks, goals and some ice skates are provided. Playing in your winter boots is also a lot of fun--and safer for those that can't skate.

At the front porch, strap on your skis or snowshoes and trek out into the winter wonderland. You will find endless miles of trails waiting for you to discover them.

Are you looking for a personal snowmobile or ice fishing tour that departs from the cabin? Your host Rod is a Licensed Guide and personally guides outdoor trips year round. Book your trip today. www.rodsalaskanguideservice.com

After a long day of braving the Alaskan cold, unwind by the wood stove as you listen to the wood crackle and watch the flames dance across the logs. Wood is free and provided on site. We are happy to provide instruction for the wood stove. The wood stove will heat the cabin but not necessary to use. The cabin has a fuel oil heater as the primary heat source.

SUMMER VISITORS

Paddle down the meandering stream in a canoe for a romantic trip or to spend quality time with the kids. Two canoes with multiple sizes of life vests are provided.

Jump in the canoe or amble along the bank to fish for grayling by fly rod or spinning rod. Grayling are easier to catch on a fly rod. Don't worry if you have never fished with a fly rod. It is easy. Every guest who has used a fly rod for the first time at Moose Walk Cabin has caught fish. Please let us know if you need fishing instruction. We are happy to help. Fly rods and spinning rods are at the cabin for your use.

From the front door you can blaze endless miles of hiking, and ATV trails. Bring your ATVs; there is plenty of parking.

Put your feet up and relax on the recliner couches as you look through the picture windows at the amazing aurora or view of the stream that abounds with wildlife. Moose, squirrels, ducks, Bald Eagles, owls, beavers, porcupines, and foxes are seen almost daily.

After a long day of site seeing, kick back with a movie on Starz or Showtime. With 235 channels to choose from, you won't miss your favorite show or sports team.

Slap on your apron. If you plan to cook for a large family or an elegant dinner for two, the full size kitchen, packed with utensils and dishes, is sure to meet any chef's needs. The dining area comfortably seats 6.

Enjoy the full bathroom with combination shower/tub. Hair dryer, shampoo, conditioner, body wash, towels, and washcloths provided.

Unpack the suitcases--get comfortable. The large dresser, and plenty of closet space for storage, let you feel right at home for longer stays.

The windows have blinds for privacy and to provide a darker room when the summer midnight sun is still glowing.

OUTSIDE

Circle around the fire-pit. It's the perfect place for roasting marshmallows and hot dogs. For those that want to cook a meal, a custom grill rack with a spit will meet your needs. If you don't have the time for open fire cooking, a propane grill is also provided.

Head to the large back yard for a game of horseshoes or playing catch with the kids.

Turn into the large private driveway with your car, truck w/ trailer, RV or even a bus. There is lots of parking--even for a greyhound bus.

GREAT TO KNOW INFO

A rental vehicle is necessary when visiting Alaska. Public transportation is not what you see in other countries and big cities. Taxis are available, but cost is typically more than a rental vehicle. A one-way taxi trip to the airport is around $60.00. A 4-wheel drive vehicle is not necessary, but recommended if you plan to drive to the Arctic Circle.

About Terri Pangborn

We are an active duty military family. We were stationed in Fairbanks Alaska from 2005 to 2009. We were relocated by the military, but knew we wanted to return to Alaska for retirement. In 2011 we had the opportunity to return to Alaska. We have been waiting for 'just the right place' to become available, for us to start our retirement dream of owning/operating a vacation rental in Alaska. Moose Walk Cabin was exactly what our family was looking for. We absolutely love everything about Alaska. We look forward to making your stay in Alaska, no matter how long, a memorable experience.

Terri Pangborn purchased this cabin in 2013

Why Terri Pangborn chose Alaska

We chose this property because of the location and the cabin. We have moose all summer in our back yard and yet we are less than five minutes to town. We love the water access at our back door. We are able to canoe and fish any time during the summer. Mother nature turns our water into a hockey rink for winter fun. The icing on the cake is the amazing aurora viewing.

What makes this cabin unique

This private waterfront property allows travelers to have all the comforts from home while in Alaska. The tranquility, aurora views from the cabin steps, and wildlife are amazing. The cabin's Alaskan theme and charm makes this home away from home a truly unforgettable place.

Guestbook comments from the owner

This cabin really is a gem. Stay here--you won't be disappointed. Our family of 5 stayed for 45 days while we searched for a new home. Moose Walk Cabin had everything our family needed. We really enjoyed watching the wildlife through the large picture windows downstairs. The beds are the most comfortable I have ever slept on. Everything you need to cook (minus food) is in the large kitchen. The wood fired sauna was a great treat to relax in on a cold winter day. A grocery store and the Santa Claus House are only three minutes away in North Pole.

Super!

  • 5 of 5

The cabin, the property and Terri were all outstanding. We have stayed in many VRBO cabins and houses around the world, but this is among the best. Clean and quiet. Well-equipped and comfortable. We stayed 11 nights and were sad to leave.

Better than we ever imagined!!

  • 5 of 5

This was a wonderfully comfortable and romantic setting for our vacation! The cabin had everything we could have needed and the host was very welcoming and warm. The location is great-quiet area with great views of the night sky, but still close to town. I would recommend this cabin for anyone wanting to visit Fairbanks!

Perfect aurora views

  • 5 of 5

I came into our stay in Fairbanks worried we might not see auroras period, much less from the back porch of this cabin. Rest assured, if the auroras are out, you WILL see them-- mug of hot chocolate in hand. I watched with a cushioned patio bench under my tush; I watched standing on wide open ice just past the hockey rink Rod blows off for winter. The cabin met my aurora dreams in every way, so much so that we did NOT drive to Murphy Dome or Chena Hot Springs or Nordale Hwy to see the lights. Why would we?

Rod and Terri were perfect hosts and gave us that extra touch of TLC that made us feel more like visiting friends than vacationers. Two thumbs way up. Besides which, the cabin is wonderfully decorated, a real pleasure to the eye. Be mindful that plumbing has been retrofitted into the existing structure, so there is a pump that goes off every time the water turns on, but that just added to the Alaska experience for us. I'd stay there again in a heartbeat.

Awesome spot for aurora viewing

  • 5 of 5

First and foremost we were visting Alaska to view the northern lights. This property is perfect for that purpose. It's far enough out of Fairbanks to not have the lights from the city interfere with your viewing. But still close enough to easily get into Fairbanks during the day you you so desire. With the large viewing windows in the cabin it's easy to take a peek at the sky without having to leave the warmth and comfort of the cabin. In the winter you can walk out on the frozen river and get a pretty unobstructed view of most of the sky.

The cabin itself is clean and nicely stocked with just about anything you could want. We made nearly every meal in the kitchen while we there and did not run across anything that we needed that was not already provided.

Rod and Terri are terrific hosts who are more than willing to provide help or suggestions to best see the Alaska that you want to see. They seem to enjoy living there for the same reasons most people would like to visit and enjoy showing what Alaska has to offer. Attention to detail is evident throughout the cabin. If by chance you wind up needing something that you can't find I have no doubt that they would more than happy to bring it over. They are available and easily reached should you need them but otherwise you do feel that the cabin is yours during your stay.

We had a great time, got a great view of the aurora, and took home some memories to last a lifetime. I would definitely recommend staying at the Moose Walk Cabin and hope to return myself someday.

Perfect!

  • 5 of 5

This was the perfect place for a honeymoon getaway and we couldn't be any happier. We have thought about our return trip already! Terri and Rod were amazing on email correspondence, so helpful and punctual on any reply. Their property has everything you could want or need and is true to the information in the property listing; simple and gorgeous. I especially loved the wood stove and the large window upstairs that you could just lay under the Aurora in a very comfy bed! Oh yes, if the reason you were visiting Alaska was the Northern lights...every night we had a dancing green glow above us. It was pretty magical.

Work Perk

  • 5 of 5

We travel for work and rented a cabin this time and it did not disappoint. It took until the third and final night, but we finally saw the elusive northern lights. We finally went to bed at 1am, but one of the beds is on the north window and all I had to do was roll over and peek out the window for activity. We saw the best ones at 3:45am from the comfort of bed! The hosts were lovely and the cabin was extremely well equipped. We would definitely rent again.
