Dennis and Dorinda have retired after 30 years in the customer service industry. They live on the property in the caretaker's house. They are native New Yorkers transplanted to this tranquil and magical setting. They enjoy every aspect of life in Missoula. Having grown up in the Bronx and Westchester County in NY they are used to everything that NY City offers in the way of culture, shopping and lifestyle. They don't miss a thing except perhaps the white sandy beaches of long island. The magnificent rivers and many water ways satisfy their love of being near the water. Bird watching and communing with nature right at home on the lodge grounds provides a storybook retirement for them. Their family pets love the lifestyle as well. Luke and Leo are brothers from the same litter. They love to frolic in the creek and explore nature with Dennis and Dorinda. Gomez their 30 year old Macaw is lots of fun to be around. He is beautiful and dances for the guests. Gomez loves being outside on the deck and enjoys the surroundings. Lots of birds and wildlife for him to enjoy. He loves the guests at the lodge and will greet you with a happy 'Hello'
Dorinda and Dennis Delena purchased this lodge in 2000
Missoula is a magical place. The scenery is breathtaking. Hip and modern while still giving you that old west feeling. On the way to the lodge you will see horses, cows, deer, wild turkey, large birds, mountains and more.
We immediately fell in love with the historic city center. The allure of a University town really appealed to us. So much going on all of the time...all four seasons.
The galleries, artist communities, farmers market and street festivals provide ongoing activities week after week. The parks, ski areas, golf courses, bike trails and forests provide enjoyable outdoor recreation year round. The change of seasons and endless outdoor activities make you feel like you are on vacation 12 months a year!
You will feel secluded tucked away in the lodge off of a dirt road in the mountains among the pines and yet...in just fifteen minutes you can be in the heart of down town Missoula enjoying live entertainment, great food, wonderful shopping, art galleries, the University Of Montana and historic monuments all around.
My boys (16 and 22) and I were warmly welcomed by Dorinda and Dennis into their private Eutopia. The right mix of a quiet, well maintained retreat, with many peaceful and manicured nooks and crannies to take a nap, read, or just gaze across the Montana hills around the grounds. Dorinda went out of her way to make sure we had everything we needed to ensure we were well fed and rested. We stayed in the in-law suite/apartment below their house -- an area which may not always be available (they built it for their visiting kids and grandkids), but which is a comfortable, modern, self-sufficient space with two sizable bedrooms. Perfect for us as we re-charged between wilderness outings with our backpacks. We felt like we'd visited our doting, accomodating, welcoming mom and dad, and we left sorry we didn't have more time to visit longer!
14 guests with 5 local friends spent full days in great comfort for a Faith based weekend of prayer, song, and consultation. The setting was beautiful , meals easy to prepare with the fully equipped kitchen, sound, peaceful private sleep with a well planned layout of accommodation. Our every need was met by our gracious hosts Dorinda and Dennis. Our hearts, minds, and souls were inspired by the setting .
Warmest Regards from all of us.
PS ( 6 flew in from different parts of the county- great to be 10 min from the airport)
Large gracious house, well-equipped kitchen, new bathrooms (4!), good lighting in the bedrooms, and plenty of space indoors and out with a stream, fire pit, located just outside downtown Missoula and 10 minutes from the airport. We held a rehearsal dinner there but it would also work for weddings, family reunions, graduations, etc. Dorinda and Dennis were gracious hosts and always available to make our stay special. I highly recommend the lodge.
I went to Butler Creek Lodge this past weekend for my friends wedding. Living in Southern California, you don't get peace and quite, calm serenity, or even really nature for that matter. This place has all of that and more. Even amidst the hustle and bustle of preparing for the wedding, I've never felt so relaxed. This is definitely a place I will be going back to!
Missoula MT was the transition weekend for my road bicycling group. Several of us rode for two weeks from Portland OR to Missoula to Waterton Lakes and Glacier NP while others joined only for week 1 and other joined only for week 2. Butler Creek Lodge while secluded was perfectly located for the multiple airport trips and our trips to town for dining, vehicle maintenance and walking tours. The multi-bedded rooms and ample number of bathrooms allowed us to easily transition with 3 people leaving Saturday morning, 5 people arriving Saturday afternoon, and 5 of us staying both nights. While we chose not to cook any dinners, the facilities were well suited to cooking a nice meal for a large group.
Dorinda and Dennis were delightful and most helpful. For example they securely stored 5 bicycles we had shipped to the location several days in advance of our arrival and willingly took care of a specialty shipping box during our second week of cycling. We also appreciated Dorinda photo documenting our visit which was broadly shared with our friends - we wanted them to be jealous.
Next time any of us are in the area I'm certain that we'd look to stay again at the Lodge. This time we'd spend more than 2 nights.
