Nestled amongst the native Koa and Ohia Lehua Trees with a sweeping view of Mauna Loa and a steady serenade from the numerous native birds, this Hawaiian retreat will envelope you with a complete sense of peace and relaxation. Hale Ka Lehua was designed by owners John & Mindi Clark and personally built by John which shows in every well thought out detail.
The extensive use of glass gives one the feeling of being outside while within the warm comfort of indoors...perhaps snuggled next to the wood burning fireplace.

French doors spill out from the solid ohia wood floored living & dining room onto the wrap around lanai that has outside dining and gas BBQ grill as well.
We invite you to come enjoy the beauty and quietude of this beautiful brand new home while exploring the amazing dynamics of Kilauea, the world's most active volcano located within Hawaii Volcanoes National Park.
The 'Dry side' of Volcano keeps you out out of what can be a constant drizzle & fog that shrouds the eastern flank. The golf course area is located just beyond the crest of 4,000' and dips you into the Kau side of Volcano where the temps will still range from the 40's to the mid 70's but with far more sun! We are 3 miles past the entrance to the park, but you can walk to the edge of the caldera from our home in just 20 minutes...a perfect place to sip a glass of wine while soaking in the view of Halema'uma'u and getting a glimpse of the powers of Madame Pele.
Both the Volcano Golf Course and Volcano Winery are within a few minutes walk from the house.
We moved to the Hawaiian village of Kalapana located on the SE corner of the Big Island in 1981 to escape the freeways of So. California. We were blessed to live, surf and paddle canoe here for 8 years before Madame Pele covered this community with lava in the late 80's & early 90's. We lost our home to the lava but our orchid farm,'Kalapana Tropicals' that we started in 1987 remains in tact and is now just one of 2 orchid nurseries that we own and operate...the other being in Kurtistown where we have lived since 1990. Free orchid farm tours for our guests!

We love the Volcano area for it's cool weather, Hawaii Volcanoes National Park, and hiking and cycling opportunities. It's a quick get-a-way for us as it is only 20 minutes from our home in Kurtistown and we feel like we are in another world!
We selected this property because it is located on the 'dry side' of Volcano, it's bounty of native Koa and Ohia trees that are filled with birds. John took great care in removing only enough trees to build and the home is designed with a bedroom off the lanai to save trees and give this home a tree house feel.
This beautiful home has all the touches that one needs for a short or long stay on the southeast side of the Big Island. It's like staying in a close friend's perfectly furnished second home. So close to Volcano National Park that we went several times (don't miss seeing the volcano at night!). But the home is also close to Hilo, the black sand beach at Punalu'u, Pahoa and all the sights at the far eastern tip of the island. I would happily stay here again and would recommend the house to anyone wishing to spend a little time on the SE side.
The Big Island is really...Big! Spend less time driving and more time having fun: It would be easy to spend lots of time driving from one side to the other several times over the course of a trip. I split my time between Volcano and the Kona coast and would recommend the same to anyone wanting to enjoy more time sightseeing and less time driving. Aloha!
It was a lovely place. The kids where sleeping in a separate little house. Unfortunately the tropical storm Darby went by with rainy days, thats why we could only use the balcony once. The house is standing in the rain forest.
We loved to stay so close to the Volcanic National Park.
Very very nice place to stay.
Great house for hiking Volcano National Park. Nice kitchen, great location, great setup with one bedroom across a breezeway.
We loved staying at this amazing property in the trees. Such a gorgeous setting and so close to the amazing Volcanoes National Park. A very special place.
The property had a wonderful design and construction. It was very peaceful and relaxing, felt very calm here. The owners were very kind and responsive. Everything was as nice as described. Internet worked fine. We enjoyed the volcano books and videos which were available. It is definitely necessary to get groceries prior to arriving. You can get eggs and milk at the local gas station convenience store, but that's about it. I look forward to staying here again one day.
The house was beautiful! It was just as the pictures showed. The artistic hawaiian craftsman style was ethereal and warm and welcoming. The backyard was lush and you felt as though you were miles away from anyone else. (Though there are neighbors, the lush natural landscape gives a wonderful feel of seclusion.) The hottub and firepit made for perfect nights. Especially with a light misting that is so common in volcano. The kitchen was spacious and well stocked, the beds were comfortable and the linens were cozy. The loft is like being in a bird's nest with nearly 360 degree views in to the tree tops. This will absolutely be where I choose to stay any time I'm on that side of the Big Island, and where I will send all my friends and family who travel anywhere nearby.
We are 3 miles past the entrance to Hawaii Volcanoes National Park, just past the Volcano Golf Course which is located on Pi'imauna Drive (1st Right past the 4,000 elevation marker on Highway 11). We are a 20 minute walk to the edge of Kilauea Caldera (from the house),10 minute walk to the golf course & a 5 minute walk to the winery. Lots of hiking trails, cycling, exploring the National Park and lava viewing.
You may also park at the entrance of our subdivision at the corner of Pi'imauna and the highway and access the park or the shopping facilities within the Kilauea Military camp. From here the walk to the caldera is less than 10 minutes. Access the hiking trails across from the flag pole at Kilauea Military Camp ...aka KMC.
We have 2 bikes for your enjoyment as well.
