Located in the heart of Charleston's newly designed bed and breakfast corridor, this renovated luxury flat (Unit D) offers historic charm while providing modern conveniences for the sophisticated traveler, with its marble-tile baths and gourmet chefs kitchen. This flat is part of a circa 1910 bungalow. It is one of four rentals within the converted home, is located on the first floor and in the rear of the property. It's just blocks from the upper King Street Design District and nearby Medical University of South Carolina.

Eat and drink with the locals in the latest offerings from Charleston award winning culinary scene-all within blocks. Shop with the locals on Upper King Street, spend a day at one of our nearby beaches. Walk to venues for Spoleto Festival USA, The Food and Wine Festival, and the Bridge Run. This is the perfect home away from home for visitors to the Medical University of South Carolina, one of the country's premiere medical institutions located just 2 blocks away from this residential setting.

About Matt Eldridge

I was born in Charleston. After graduating from The College of Charleston, I left Charleston, traveling and working at several resorts along the way. After two years and living in several different states, I realized what a special place Charleston was and decided to return home.

I took over as Innkeeper in 2012 after a successful career in sales and have loved it ever since. The best part of what I do is having the privilege to meet many of our guests who have traveled from places near & far to enjoy the city I love.

Why Matt Eldridge chose Charleston

We love the Cannonborough-Elliotborough Neighborhood, which is located just west of Upper-King Street in Downtown Charleston. We purchased the property in 2007 as an opportunity to carefully renovate a unique Charleston home; bringing it up-to-date, while restoring it to it's original glory. It's been fun to be part of all the exciting changes that have taken place in the area over the years

What makes this condo unique

While extensive renovation of the property was completed in 2008, we worked hard to preserve the original character that gives it historic significance. We added modern conveniences, such as marble countertops, custom cabinetry throughout, new appliances in the kitchen, laundry facilities, upgraded electric, plumbing, and central heat & air. We carefully restored hard-wood floors, repaired crown molding and the diamond-grid windows. All of this allows are guests to stay in comfort in a property that has been part of Charleston since 1910.

The Rutledge Avenue Inn is owner-operated.

Roomy comfortable apartment in an excellent location

The apartment is beautifully renovated and in walking distance of many restaurants and bars. The DASH shuttle bus stop is less than a block away which will take you to the Visitors Center and connections to other bus lines. We walked all the way down to Broad and Meeting and took the bus home part of the way. Some excellent restaurants are very close. Matt is an excellent host. He is easy to reach quickly and always accommodating. The heat pump is right outside the living room window of unit C (downstairs) and is kind of noisy when it is running, but not a major problem. We would definitely stay at The Rudledge Inn next time we come to Charleston.

Rutledge Avenue Inn, apartment D was wonderful!!

This was the first time that my husband and I had ever used Home Away to find a place to stay, and were we ever happy that we did. Matt was a real sweetheart to communicate with, and even went to the apartment the evening of our arrival to turn up the heat since the weather had caused our arrival to be delayed. Everything in the apartment was superb and the apartment was extremely clean. We feel that price of the apartment was very reasonable, especially for Charleston, and with free off the street parking, it was a great deal. The Inn is located near downtown so we walked or took the free trolly everywhere we went with the exception of one day, when we drove to Folly Island. There are also many restaurants located within just a few blocks of the Inn. The only minor irritant was the noise in the living room from the heating units outside the window. It was quite loud at times, but we really didn't spend much time in the living room, and you could not hear the noise in the bedroom. I would highly recommend staying at the Rutledge Avenue Inn, and we will stay again when we visit Charleston.

Beautiful accomodations for a beautiful location

The apartment was gorgeous, well appointed, well kept, everything you would need was there. Parking is a little tight, but manageable. I have a larger SUV and needed to park on the street for part of the stay due to all of the other guests but the owner made parking passes available if needed so no problems at all. Will definitely be returning and staying here.

Matt the inn manager has an excellent property and very personable. Unit D was exactly as pictures represented. Very clean, comfortable, with excellent finishes and everything you need to enjoy your stay. Will definitely be back to this property.
