Located in the heart of Charleston's newly designed bed and breakfast corridor, this renovated luxury flat (Unit D) offers historic charm while providing modern conveniences for the sophisticated traveler, with its marble-tile baths and gourmet chefs kitchen. This flat is part of a circa 1910 bungalow. It is one of four rentals within the converted home, is located on the first floor and in the rear of the property. It's just blocks from the upper King Street Design District and nearby Medical University of South Carolina.

Eat and drink with the locals in the latest offerings from Charleston award winning culinary scene-all within blocks. Shop with the locals on Upper King Street, spend a day at one of our nearby beaches. Walk to venues for Spoleto Festival USA, The Food and Wine Festival, and the Bridge Run. This is the perfect home away from home for visitors to the Medical University of South Carolina, one of the country's premiere medical institutions located just 2 blocks away from this residential setting.

About Matt Eldridge

I was born in Charleston. After graduating from The College of Charleston, I left Charleston, traveling and working at several resorts along the way. After two years and living in several different states, I realized what a special place Charleston was and decided to return home.

I took over as Innkeeper in 2012 after a successful career in sales and have loved it ever since. The best part of what I do is having the privilege to meet many of our guests who have traveled from places near & far to enjoy the city I love.

Why Matt Eldridge chose Charleston

We love the Cannonborough-Elliotborough Neighborhood, which is located just west of Upper-King Street in Downtown Charleston. We purchased the property in 2007 as an opportunity to carefully renovate a unique Charleston home; bringing it up-to-date, while restoring it to it's original glory. It's been fun to be part of all the exciting changes that have taken place in the area over the years

What makes this condo unique

While extensive renovation of the property was completed in 2008, we worked hard to preserve the original character that gives it historic significance. We added modern conveniences, such as marble countertops, custom cabinetry throughout, new appliances in the kitchen, laundry facilities, upgraded electric, plumbing, and central heat & air. We carefully restored hard-wood floors, repaired crown molding and the diamond-grid windows. All of this allows are guests to stay in comfort in a property that has been part of Charleston since 1910.

The Rutledge Avenue Inn is owner-operated.

Comfortable and hospitable place to stay in Charleston, SC

Matt was most welcoming and made sure we enjoyed our stay on Rutledge Ave. Couldn't ask for a better host. He provided great dining tips both in and just outside of the city. The suite is well maintained and is at the rear of the house - away from any possibility of street noise at night. There are a couple good restaurants less than five minutes away, and driving or walking to the historic district and waterfront is quick. If we head back to Charleston in the future, we'll check for availability here first.

Perfect location!

This was our second stay at this property. The apartment is so comfortable and the location is great for walking to attractions and restaurants. The owners could not be more helpful. I highly recommend this rental spot for your Charleston vacation.

A true gem

If I could rate this unit 4.5 Stars I would! I will start off with my only gripe being my very large SUV could not fit down the driveway to the assigned parking BUT we were there on a weekend so street parking was free and plentiful... So no problem at all. I called the owner, Matt, and he assured me all was well to street park and we never had another issue during our time spent in Unit D of Rutledge Aveneue Inn!

From the moment we walked in the unit, we were impressed with the modern, clean, and comfortable atmosphere. The place was stocked with everything needed from fresh towels to wine glasses. The location was just far enough from King Street to escape the traffic but close enough to walk there easily. The key pad entry was convenient and the air conditioning never failed us in the intense July heat.

The owners were a phone call away, the other tenants were quality, fun folks, and the place was beautiful. Would definitely stay again!

Great find!

The unit is large and newly renovated. It's close enough to King St. to be a quick drive without all of the noise of staying on King St. Matt is very responsive to whatever you need, and he's extremely nice. The parking space for unit D is hard to park in, but we got the hang of it. Also, we were on the 1st floor and could hear the people upstairs walk across their unit. So, bring your ear plugs if you're a light sleeper. But, the unit was beautiful, and we'll definitely stay here again if we go back to Charleston.

Charming and spacious

My husband and I celebrated our 25th wedding anniversary in Charleston and wanted to be close to everything. This condo was amazing. We walked everywhere we needed to go, saw amazing historical venues. The condo had all we needed and a very comfortable bed for sleeping. Matt was very helpful with anything we needed. The location was quiet enough and friendly. For breakfast, we only had to walk across the street to the Hominy Grill. By the way, if you are a dessert fanatic, this is the place to get the best homemade desserts to make your mouth water. We enjoyed the many parks nearby and felt safe everywhere we walked no matter what time of day or night. I would definitely recommend staying here.
