Slovenia Cottage Rental Photos and Description

Large living room, kitchen and bathroom. Double and twin bedrooms

As with all our holiday accommodation we've made sure the Retreat is not just bearable for a week, but a fantastic holiday cottage you'll be dying to come back to. In the living room there's the wood burning stove, which makes sure the house is nice and cosy in the winter and the two foot stone walls keep it cool in the Summer. A super squishy sofa, 1.8 metre wide bed plus the modern kitchen and shower room mean you'll have all the comforts of home, while the lack of a TV and telephone means that you can forget about all the things you have to deal with once you get here. Leave your mobile on if you must, but honestly, we wouldn't recommend it. (Psst: there is an iPod dock & DVD Player though.)

Activities: Fishermen come from all over the world to the Soca River; the best place in the world to catch the mysterious marble trout, while Bovec is developing into the premier water sports river in Europe. If you can name a white water sport, you can find it there. Rafting, kayaking and hydro speed (think body surfing through river rapid) are all on offer and the river's mix of bubbling rapids and picture post card gorges mean that whichever one you opt for is bound to make for a memorable afternoon. Or, if you prefer, choose a book from the shelf, stop in at a local bakery, and spend some time lazing by the river, dabbling your feet in the water and watching everyone else get soaked.

For adventurous landlubbers, the excellent ski resort of Kanin is replaced in the summer by a downhill mountain bike track and park where you can spend the day struggling to stay in one piece at breakneck speed. Trekking and hiking from the Trenta and Soca valleys up into Triglav offers more time to stop and enjoy the views and less risk of leaving with a flat tyre.

What makes this cottage unique

The Retreat offers the opportunity not just to get away, but to really escape. An idyllic traditional cottage sitting alone in its alpine meadow above the village of Livek with views out over the meadow in front and to the mountains and rivers of the Soča Valley below. A quiet, relaxing atmosphere pervades here - we use it to recharge also when off season.

Guestbook comments from the owner

We have thoroughly enjoyed our first visit to Slovenia. The retreat was all we hoped for and more. Loved sitting outside in the evening listening to the church and cow bells. The children were safe to run around and enjoyed looking at all the minibeasts!

All in all an excellent holiday with something for all of us. Thank you for letting us stay in your amazing little house.

The Retreat is a cosy cottage that's easy to access and combines convenience with charm.

The kitchen is small but had everything we needed and we cooked a meal for 4 easily.

The Soca river is so beautiful and there are plenty of lovely walks . We are hoping to return next year.

Will definitely go again

  • 5 of 5

I had a great time! The Retreat and the Farmhouse were such good value for money and both places were brilliantly kitted-out (better than my own house!).

I won't hesitate in coming back again.

It you're reading this and thinking about where to book, just do this place ... take my car!

Charming Rural Slovenia

  • 5 of 5

An absolutely charming and comfortable stay in rural Slovenia, in this well-equipped and comfortable house. There is lots to do in the local area, and we enjoyed walking as well as sightseeing, but it was always good to come back to the house and enjoy a drink and a meal looking out over the valley. Our stay was a total rest, and there is nothing we could think of to improve it.

Uhriges Ferienhaus in idyllischer Lage

  • 4 of 5

biken, grillen, chillen

  • 5 of 5

The Retreat sits in a genuinely idyllic rural holiday location. Step out of the front door and you can turn right to the picnic table or left to some of the best hillwalking the country has to offer. From the cottage you can trek straight up into the surrounding Alps overlooking the stunning So?a Valley. The views make it worth while even for the most determined couch potatoes.

If hiking isn't your thing, you can lounge around in the meadow outside or laze indoors with one of the well-thumbed books on the shelf, flick through a magazine or two or catch up on some important snoozing. If you start to feel a little too lazy, the So?a river offers Europe's most spectacular white water rafting and kayaking, or you could head into to Kobarid or Tolmin to grab coffee and stretch your legs- under the table.
