About The Owner

As a long time resident of Mariposa County, I have greatly enjoyed living, playing and working in this beautiful mountain range. I spent many years in the backcountry of Yosemite constructing stone trails before going into the building trades. My experience as a stonemason and builder is what I have brought to Quarry House in order to elevate and express the beauty that this property holds. I spent much time renovating the entire house, adding amenities, and clearing the surrounding land to make it the charming and tranquil home that it is today. I created unique finishing touches to the interior by adding stone accents throughout the house. When it came time to move in order to be closer to work, I turned Quarry House into a vacation rental so that it could be enjoyed by many.

Guestbook comments from the owner

Our stay at the Quarry House was amazing! ♥

We enjoyed every miniute of it… the deer in the morning was probably the most amazing part although the trees and other wildlife were things we will always remember. Until next time, Quarry House, ♥

Okay, but not great

  • 2 of 5

Upon arriving at the Quarry House about 7pm, the inside temperature was 88 degrees. The evaporator cooler did help but the first night we could not get the house below 76 degrees- it was very uncomfortable. The cooler really only works on the main room and the kitchen and does nothing for the bedrooms. The master was very uncomfortable even with the floor fan that was provided. With this sort of cooling system we had to sleep with the windows open, even though it was the height of pollen season. And because the cooling system requires windows to be open, we could not cool the house during the day while we were at Yosemite, so each evening we came back to 85 degrees or higher. This was not welcoming nor relaxing.

There are no curtains on the master bedroom windows as shown in the pictures and the blinds are broken- stuck half-open, half-closed. Additionally, there are no blinds or curtains at all on the back windows so not only can you not block the sun during the day, when the sun comes up (before 6am in the summer) the house is very bright!

My husband had severe allergy attacks anytime he sat on the couch. I don't know if the couch had previously been in a home with dogs or cats perhaps, but he could not go anywhere near it- which made for only the table or barstools for sitting.

As others have said, the outside of the property was "junky" at best. There was an old car with broken windows under a shed and the yard was not well-maintained. I can't say I felt safe when we first arrived. The inside of the house, however, is immaculate-- very clean and well-stocked as advertised.

For reference, we were visiting in June and the drive to Yosemite was 45-50 minutes to the gate and another 10-15 minutes from the gate to the Valley. From Glacier Point it took us about 2 hours to return to the Quarry House.

Additional things renters should know: there is excellent wi-fi in the house, but NO TV. AT&T cell service is not available at the house, but is in Mariposa. The master bathroom has a fan that is solar powered, but does not work at night (when the house is hot from being closed up all day and you want to take a shower after hiking in Yosemite all day). The bedding was very comfortable.

Next trip, we will be choosing a different rental property.

Great Time in Mariposa!

  • 5 of 5

My family and I spent five days in Mariposa, enjoying the National Parks. We stayed at the Quarry House and found our stay delightful. We arrived rather late due to late flights into San Francisco, but quickly settled in to the three bedroom house. We woke to beautiful weather and to a kitchen that was modestly stocked with our basic needs. We ventured the first two mornings to Yosemite, which was a lovely drive with beautiful scenery. The location of the rental house was perfect for a Yosemite vacation. We also explored Kings Canyon and Sequoia National parks for the remainder of our stay. Unfortunately, the location of the house was much farther away for these destinations, and we spent a significant amount of time on the road. Anyone interested in exploring both national parks should consider a better location. But if you are only interested in Yosemite, this is the perfect place!

We had a nice dinner in Mariposa and also enjoyed the quaint shops downtown.

The rental house was overall very nice. We had seven total people that slept comfortably. The house was clean and very comfortable. It had all the basic essentials that are needed for a family. We enjoyed being able to dine together after long days of exploring. The rental experience was easy and we did not experience any problems during our stay.

Overall, five stars!

Thanks for making our family vacation a memorable experience!

Great experience!!

  • 5 of 5

My family had a great experience at Quarryhouse! It was very clean and spacious for all 6 of us. The beds are very comfortable. The kitchen drawers were all labeled for easier access. It did take about 30-40minutes to the yosemite park entrance, and it was a bit hard communucating with the owner during the stay, but overall, it was an excellent experience we had at the Quarry house.

Quarry House stay

  • 3 of 5

Good location with short drive to Mariposa for dining, groceries & gas; scenic drive to Yosemite Valley. House has great kitchen with nice dining area. Comfortable sitting in living room although no TV service. Comfortable sleeping arrangements with plenty of space four the four of us. Utensils, towels & linens provided. Would have appreciated soap, shampoo, conditioner for bathrooms.

Spotless inside

  • 5 of 5

Our family really enjoyed staying here for a couple of days while exploring Yosemite. We saw deer on the property on the second morning. So peaceful.

This house was extremely clean and well maintained inside, with excellent instructions everywhere and a well-stocked kitchen. The beds were exceptionally comfortable, and the linens of high quality. There were lots of nice small touches that other rentals often lack, such as stocked paper towels, tp, a new sponge, dish soap, laundry soap, etc. Everything was just as nice as the pictures.

The layout is excellent for a family with children since the master bedroom is set apart from the two other bedrooms.

The owner was very responsive. When one of the roads was closed, he helped us with directions.

Just bear in mind the property is a bit of a drive to Yosemite. We were fine with that because at allowed our family privacy and quiet time. There are stores and restaurants within reasonable (10 min) driving distance if you need anything.
