Rural house with 3 en-suite bedrooms in truffle country, Buzet, Istra
This comfortable house is renovated stone house, located in the little village of Srnegla, only 1 km away from Buzet, which is in the very north of Istria near the border with Slovenia. Buzet is widely known as the “City of Truffles” since the forests along the Mirna River are especially rich in this divine mushroom / tuber.
According to some views, the white truffle of Istria is as good as the most famous white truffle from the Italian region of Alba.
The house sleeps 6 persons. On the ground floor there is large living room, kitchen / dining room and toilette. On the first floor there are one double and one twin bedrooms, both with en-suite bathroom and terrace. There is also a junior suite in the former barn, which is attached to the main house.

Villa Elena is amazing!
We stayed at Villa Elena over Christmas 2009. The house is beautifully done and decorated, with Robi's (owner) original paintings adorning the walls. The view of Buzet is amazing! The location is fantastic, being just minutes from Buzet, and about 10 minutes to Motovun. This area of Istria is so beautiful and I highly recommend a holiday here for anyone thinking about it. Robi and his family are great hosts. They make fantastic red and white wine, which was made available to us whenever we wanted it. We had a great time and would, without a doubt, refer friends and family to Villa Elena.
Thank you very much for your nice words.
Thank you and your beautifull family.
Hope see you soon.
All the best, Robi.
Ein echtes Paradies - a real paradise
A wonderful place, "our" paradise. The perfect place to calm down, to relax and enjoy the landscape, the nature, the pittoresque little Towns like f.ex. Buzet, Motovun oder Grosznijan - and above all: the truffles! :) The Villa Elena is fantastic, wonderful decorated, great paintings of Roberto (the owner). We loved to stay there und surely come back asap! Thank you again, Roberto!
A wonderful stay in Istria
We selected for our 1st vacation in Croatia / Istria the Vila Elena and we took a very good one.
The Villa offers everything what we like to enjoy a relaxing holiday. It offers 2 separate combinations of bed- and bathroom, a large kitchen and a nice living room. 2 more guests can enjoy a separate apartment. The Villa is nicely decorated with the paintings from our host Roberto.
The Villa is on a hill which offers a beautiful view to the old town of Buzet, especially in the evenings. In a distance of about 15km we visited the town of Motovun, which is build on a mountain 280m above ground It offers a stunning view around into the valley of the Mirna river.
The Istrien west coast invites for trips to the historical towns of Porec and Rovinjy with their old harbor areas.
Roberto was very helpful in giving us hints where to find the specialties in wine and food and further places to visit.
Especially when he cooked for us, we enjoyed that afternoon, it was delicious.
During the entire stay wine and grappa was offered for free from his own yards.
All in all it was a great stay and vacation, a beautiful house, and a great host.
Thanks Roberto we will come back !!
An Epicurean's Delight
I have just come back from a week’s stay at Villa Elena with 5 friends, and have to say it met every expectation and more. The villa itself is beautiful, set in stunning countryside, and very comfortable - it certainly felt like our home while we were there.
The kitchen has everything you need – plenty of kitchen knives, bowls, plates, glasses etc, as well as a few essentials to get you started (oil, salt, sugar, that sort of thing). There’s also a dishwasher so minimal arguments over clearing up in the evenings!
The outside area has everything covered too; there’s a hammock to lie in while enjoying the view, comfortable loungers for the pool, lots of seating, and the outdoor kitchen/ barbecue – well, let’s just say all of the men started planning how to build something similar at home.
Bedrooms are homely and comfortable, and the bathrooms are modern and fresh. We even got clean towels half-way through the week – certainly a new experience for us.
This probably sounds like an advert, but it really isn’t. I’ve stayed in a few villas with the same group of friends and we all agreed this is the best so far. And as for Istria itself – it’s an excellent place to spend a week if, like us, you are motivated by good food and drink in fine surroundings.
A few mentions that we feel might be useful:
1) There is large-ish supermarket roughly 5 minutes’ drive from the villa and it has pretty much everything you'll need. I would personally recommend a hire car, but the town of Buzet can be reached by foot in approximately 25 minutes. And the old town is worth the climb to the top.
2) The drive from Pula airport is very straight forward and quicker than we (or Google) thought. It took us little over an hour with only a slightly flexible approach to the speed limit. You will have to pay a toll when leaving the motorway, so make sure you’ve got 30 Kuna or so in cash with you.
3) The villa has a wine cellar that contains a whole spectrum of strong and scary local liquors. Only one of us was brave enough to attempt those (and his evening ended fairly early), but we did make a dent in the vat of complimentary red wine. Yes, you read ‘complimentary’ right. It’s homemade, delicious, and deceptively potent.
The review wouldn’t be complete without mentioning the villa owner (and sometime host), Roberto – he’s incredibly friendly, helpful, and did his utmost to ensure we had everything we needed. Thanks again, Roberto!
What a fantastic villa. Exactly as it looked on the pictures, spotlessly clean and well maintained. The mini guesthouse was a hit with our teenage boys.
We had a great two week stay, the children loved the pool and the garden, and we enjoyed exploring the wonderful hill towns and countryside in the area.
Roberto was a wonderful host, always willing to answer questions and help out without being intrusive. The meal he cooked us was delicious and the gift of fresh salad and vegetables from his families garden was well received as was the free wine.
Will definitely be going back and will recommend it to all our friends.
A wonderful property!
The photos are spot-on and Roberto was a helpful and hospitable host. The house is beautifullly decorated, with well-equipped en-suite bathrooms for each room. One of the bedrooms is actually a mini guesthouse with its own kitchen and sitting area.
There's a lovely fireplace with wood provided and the kitchen has everything you need. In cold weather I'd recommend slippers to wear in the house as the floors can get quite cold.
All in all a lovely place for a get-together for bigger parties (there were 6 of us). Would love to return in warmer weather!
One more thing - Roberto was very prompt in informing me when the bank transfer went through. And he answered all my questions during our stay swiftly as well.
