Hale Nani Kai, 'House of the Beautiful Sea', is one of the last original 'sugar shacks' left on the south shore of Kauai. Hale Nani Kai takes you back to the days of a simpler Kauai... vast ocean views, the sound of waves crashing on the lava shore, and the simplicity of island life 50 years ago.
Hale Nani Kai is a true beach house. Let the sounds of the waves lull you into an afternoon nap, enjoy lazy days on the magnificent lanai in the shade with a good book or just gaze out on the gorgeous South Shore view of Brenneke's and Poipu Beaches. Be entertained in whale season with your front row seats for whales and their calves and the year round turtles that frequent the shore.
Hale Nani Kai has two bedrooms, each with a comfortable king bed and bathroom en suite. The living room has a full sized sleeper sofa. The decor is beach house casual, boasting both indoor and outdoor dining areas for 6. The kitchen is well stocked for meals in, and a gas BBQ for the grillers in your family waits on the lanai. There are laundry facilities on the premises and beach chairs, towels, umbrellas to take on your short walk to the beach or to enjoy Hale Nani Kai’s private lawn. The sunset views of Hale Nani Kai are breathtaking, and a wonderful treat to return to at the end of the day from wherever your adventures have taken you. The VRBO calendar is always up to date so if it says it is available, it is!
We first moved to the Islands in 1988 and lived in Oahu. One trip to Kauai and we were HOOKED! We bought property in Poipu in 1996 and keep coming back! We live in Texas full time and love to share the blessing of this home while we are away.
Shari Pilaria purchased this house in 2004
We had owned a condo previously and wanted to have a little more privacy and space. We found this jewel in the middle of Poipu and have loved it ever since! The location is perfect for walking to either Poipu Beach Park or the Hyatt, Shipwreck Beach. The vast open view from the lanai was the selling point for us as well as the uniqueness of this old house! We have updated it, but tried to maintain the old, cottage style living it was intended for when it was built in 1962. It has withstood hurricanes and storms, hosted many families and friends, been the spot for various Hawaiian musical concerts and countless delicious meals served and enjoyed over the years. It's the real Kauai. So many incredible memories for us and no doubt many more to come!
Huge covered lanai, spectacular ocean view, privacy, location, sounds of waves crashing all day and night, whale watching, grassy lawn
and this by far was the best place we've stayed. The house is beautiful and well equiped and very comfortable!!!
The view from the lanai is awesome and rainbows and sunsets glorrous! We hope to come back and stay again here now that we've experienced it.
We enjoyed Brennekes Beahc Broiler, Roys and the Beach House for meals out and cooked in for many meals.
Thanks so much for sharing your lovely home - hate to leave but we have pictures - and will come back.
We spent 10 days here with family and it was just perfect. There is plenty of room to spread out. All the basics are supplied, including beach toys and kitchen supplies. Convenient to shopping. A wonderful breeze kept the whole house comfortable, well ventilated in all rooms.
We would definitely stay here on future vacations without a second thought. Shari was very gracious in welcoming us to the house and there to help in case of need. But all was fine and we did not need to call. Mahalo
Had a wonderful time here and the hosts were very accommodating. Impressed with how stocked the house was!
This was such a great place!! Fantastic place for 2 couples or large family. Super close to the popular Poipu beaches, restaurants, and attractions like the botanical gardens and spouting horn. The best dive operators are in Port Allen, only 25mins away!
This is a fantastic place, with a well stocked kitchen. The lanai is HUGE and the sunsets from the lanai simply can't be beat! This was our third trip to Kauai and was absolutely the best!! Huge living area, lots of seating and places to chill out, but this is Kauai and you're not necessarily going to be in the house too much!!
Anyway, this is a great place, I wouldn't hesitate to book it again for out next trip!! Shari is a great property manager and super responsive - thanks again for all your help!!
My wife and I loved our visit here! Last time we visited the islands, we stayed at a fancy condo place. While it was nice, this time we wanted a different, non-corporate-feeling experience. This house is delightful! Instead of air conditioning, we enjoyed the constant Hawaiian breezes. Hey, this is how people lived here forever! Even in August, It just wasn't too bad because the house is designed and positioned with island winds in mind. The house is so nice we'd come back for an August visit again - in the cooler months it would be a slam dunk!
We had neighbors; we could sometimes hear them ( car doors closing and such), but we rarely saw them. This is exceptional because this house has the big lanai and so much glass bringing the glorious outdoors in. Plus, the landscaping does an excellent job of screening the surrounding structures.
We had a small plumbing issue, but Shari jumped right in and got a plumber there to address the issue to our satisfaction.
Several folks mentioned the comfortable beds and it's true. My wife never sleeps well the first night on travel, but on this bed she did. It also did a good job of not waking up one partner when the other one moved around. Our only nit was that there was a plastic lined mattress cover protecting the mattress and my wife sometimes woke up feeling muggy because of it.
Like so many said before, the views, features and comfort are outstanding. You want this house!
Our family was able to stay at this BEAUTIFUL home last month and it was an absolute DREAM! The perfect location, the most incredible view, plenty of room for our family of 6 (17 yr old, 15 yr old, 9 yr old & 8 yr old), comfy beds, well appointed kitchen with everything you need, and did I mention the view??? The lanai is absolute perfection!!! Close enough to walk to the beach, stores & restaurants...far enough away from any noise or crowds. Shari was wonderful to work with and quick to answer and help with our needs. We will most definitely be coming back someday...a DREAM!!!
The house is on a large lot with a big grass area in front and a huge L-shaped deck with views of the ocean.
We had our 18 month old with us and one the bedrooms was able to be made very dark with the blinds closed so it was perfect for the little one. The master bed was comfy and with the breeze coming through all the vents, the house was always comfortable for sleeping.
The kitchen was stocked with basics including spices and soy sauce and vinegar (we left olive oil for the next guests), so we ended up cooking multiple nights, using the outdoor grill, too.
There are lots of books on Hawaii and Kauai on the bookshelf, a TV with cable and wifi.
The beach was 5-10 minutes away on foot, an easy walk.
The bathrooms only have small showers, no bathtubs, but even with our little one, it wasn't a big deal.
We really enjoyed our stay and would recommend the home and would come back again.
In the heart of Poipu Beach Hale Nani Kai overlooks the beautiful rocky shores down to the beaches of Poipu. An excellent location for snorkeling and beach activities.
