About Randy and Betsy

Randy and Betsy are the owners of this cabin. The cabin is brand new, completed June 2012. It was built as a mountain retreat for our family and friends. We make our home in Littleton, Colorado a suburb of Denver, Colorado. Betsy originates from St. Louis, MO, but has spent most of her time in Colorado. Randy is from Phoenix, AZ but got to Colorado as fast as he could. We both enjoy this area for its beauty, quietness, the stars, cool air, and the outdoor activities.

Betsy is an artist and spends time painting at the cabin and in the area. She has her work displayed in the Courtyard Gallery in Buena Vista. Randy enjoys photography.

Randy and Betsy purchased this cabin in 2011

Why Randy and Betsy chose South Central Colorado

Betsy and I were first introduced to the Mt Princeton area in 2002 when we joined with four other families to build a small cabin within a mile of this one. We eventually decided to build a place of our own so we could spend more time in the mountains. Once you have stayed here you will agree that it is a special place!

What makes this cabin unique

We chose the property for this cabin because of the view and its proximity to a 14 acre meadow. Every morning we wake up and look outside to see what nature has for us. The valley is always changing with the clouds, the morning deer and the sunrise on the chalk cliffs providing something new. At night we anticipate sitting on the deck and looking up at the stars for an amazing display of the galaxy. Even though it feels like we are in the middle of the forest, we are minutes away from services and amenities.

Peaceful, relaxing and very comfortable!

  • 5 of 5

What an amazing place. The cabin itself is very comfortable, clean and inviting. We immediately felt at home as soon as we walked in the door. Its setting is perfect for viewing the mountains, the wildlife and just relaxing in general. It was unmatched by any previous vacation locations for comfort and peacefulness. Our first morning we woke to beautiful clear skies and very cool weather. It was a tremendous time taking in the sights and enjoying the time spent in the cabin. We woke our second day to rain in the valley while watching it snow on the mountain tops. As we prepared to leave for home the clouds lifted completely to show the top 1/3 of mountains covered in snow, quite an amazing view. During the entire stay the deer wandered to/from in the yard not bothered by our presence at all. We enjoyed walking thru the woods, sitting on the deck, and spending time viewing the stars. My elderly parents who were visiting asked if we could return during their future visits to Colorado! We will without doubt! Thank you Randy & Betsy.

Lovely place. Had to leave too soon.

  • 5 of 5

We were only in the cabin for two nights. We loved the house and the location. Dead quiet except for the wind in the trees. Woke up to a gorgeous sunrise on the salt cliffs. The second night was cloudless and we could see the Milky Way.

Lots of wildlife ambled by. Only only wish was that we could stay another day. Or 2. Or 3...

Wonderfull overall experience

  • 5 of 5

Randy and Betsy have a wonderful cabin and were great to work with. The cabin has a great view and a lot of wildlife roaming in and out of the property to watch in the evenings while sitting on the deck. Had a great overall experience and would definitely vacation at their property again.

Cabin Review

  • 5 of 5

All six of us enjoyed everything about the cabin. It was clean, comfortable, nicely done, and the setting was spectacular. Loved the views of the mountains, pine trees, and occasionally some deer. Courtney's visit when we first got there was helpful and she is a delightful girl. We would definitely recommend going to the cabin to our family and friends and hope we can get back there again.

Mt. Princeton/Chalk Cliffs Cabin

  • 4 of 5

This cabin is in great condition, well kept and very well maintained. It fit our needs for a party of 4 adults and two children for two nights, perfectly. The split bathroom worked great in preparation for the reception we attended at Mt. Princeton Lodge. None of us slept in the rec. room, although there was plenty of sleeping area. The window seating allowed most of us some quiet time. The deck view of the Chalk Cliffs was very mesmerizing to us low altitude midwesterners. A reminder - the kitchen is on the second floor. Bringing groceries up 13+ steps at this higher elevation was work. I thought the cleaning fee charge was high, as was the service fee. With reservation insurance, our nightly cost averaged $300. Had we stayed longer, that cost would have decreased. Overall, a great cabin in a great location, and a bit overpriced. I do highly recommend it to others. Thank you Randy and Betsy.

This picturesque getaway in the mountains is exactly what we needed!! We enjoyed hiking, exploring, playing pool in the basement, taking advantage of Mt Princeton Hot Springs, and we spent the majority of our time relaxing on the balcony taking in the views!!! We will definitely be going back!!! Thank you for a great stay!!

The cabin is located in an area known as the Mt. Princeton area or the Chalk Cliffs area.

The Arkansas Valley region is a 'banana belt’, which keeps the temperatures from the extremes and limits heavy snow fall to elevations above 7,500'. This cabin is on the snow line, so snow depths are variable. Within minutes of the cabin you can hike, fish, 4-wheel, cycle, swim, cross country ski, raft, rock climb, and camp. For the more adventurous, hiking any of the 14teeners in the area is an accomplishment.

Everyone should take a trip down the Arkansas River at least once to experience white water rafting. Depending on the water level and type of trip there are trips for all levels from calmer waters to Class 5 water.

The Mt. Princeton Resort and Hot Springs is a popular destination with a hot springs swimming pool.

St Elmo ghost town is 12 miles up valley and is a great mountain drive and off-roading area in the summer.

Chalk Creek is a 10-minute walk and good for fishing.

Horseback riding is available near the Mt Princeton resort.

For unique restaurants and art galleries spend the afternoon and evening in Buena Vista 9 miles north or Salida12 miles south. There are several interesting bars in both towns.

A perfect weekend in this area would include our local favorites:

Explore St. Agnes falls: Drive 10 minutes up the valley and hike .5 miles to the base of the falls.

Eat breakfast at the Evergreen Café in Buena Vista.

Take home a painting from a local artist at the Courtyard Gallery in Buena Vista.

Go on an adventure with Noah’s Ark Rafting Company or another local outfitter.

Soak in the hot springs at the Mt. Princeton Resort or Cottonwood Hot Springs.

Take a scenic drive up to the ghost town, St. Elmo -- a trip back to the gold mining days.

Enjoy a gourmet dinner at the Laughing Ladies Restaurant in Salida or the Eddyline Restaurant & Brewery in Buena Vista.
