Hello! Welcome to Our Mountain Homeplace. Our lovely cottage is located 12 miles east of Damascus, Va. between Virginia's two highest peaks--Whitetop Mountain and Mt. Rogers Recreational Area. There are three entrances to the Virginia Creeper Trail within 3 to 5 minutes of us. (We are within 5 miles of the beginning of the Creeper Trail in Whitetop Va.) The Appalachian Trail is within a mile of our house. We also have numerous hiking, biking, horseback riding trails, and streams galore for fishing. You might also want to take advantage of the many festivals that happen in this area from Spring to Fall.
Now for a little bit of information about our cottage. The house was left to me by my parents. My husband David and I have lovingly and steadily been completely renovating it. The downstairs level was opened up to our rental customers in 2012. It It has been a work in progress as we strive to make it the best that it can be for our guests!! We are finally ready to open up the upstairs this year, which will give our guests a third bedroom to enjoy. Our house now has three bedrooms, two with queen beds and the upstairs with two twin beds. (For our customers who prefer certain types of mattresses, please note that all beds have pillow top style mattresses). There is also a Queen size sofa sleeper in the Living Room, which we have a foam mattress topper for. Each bedroom has flat screen TV's with their own satellite receivers. All Linens are furnished and we promise that when you stay with us, you can be assured that everything, including bedspreads, are laundered after each customer! We have two full-sized bathrooms. One has a stand up shower and the other has a tub and shower combo with curved shower rod. Both baths are beautifully furnished. You will love our large living room with a 42' wall mounted flat screen TV . It also has an electric fireplace that will keep you toasty when the nights are cool. High Speed Internet Access (WIFI) is provided for those who need their laptops! Our living room has plenty of comfortable seating and its own gorgeous, original hardwood floors.
There is a porch/sun room with sliding glass doors, windows that open on each end, and comfortable seating. You can sit and have your morning coffee while relaxing and watching the world go by! Outside you will find two gorgeous acres with a picnic area that has plenty of seating, gas/charcoal combo grill (charcoal furnished), picnic table, rock fire pit (wood furnished), and several furnished games including horseshoes, badminton, volleyball, frisbee and corn toss. Come stay with us and enjoy our mountain heritage. We will do everything we can to make you feel right at home! We believe our house is best described by one of our recent guests who left this poem for us:
HIGH ATOP A MOUNTAIN
OR PRETTY DARN NEAR
SITS A CUTE LITTLE HOUSE
FULL OF COMFORT AND CHEER
WARM AND INVITING
ONCE YOU STEP INSIDE
THE CORE OF A LOVING FAMILY
IT DOES NOT HIDE
BEAUTIFUL ARE THE GROUNDS
ON THIS DAY IN SPRING
THE SUN KISSES THE FLOWERS
AND THE MANY BIRDS SING
EVERYTHING YOU NEED
IS HERE FOR YOUR PLEASURE
MEMORIES HAVE BEEN MADE
AND OH! WHAT A TREASURE
NOTE: We always love hearing from our customers but at times we are out of cell phone range, however, our calendar is always up-to-date and you can make reservations through this site without contacting us first-- if that is more convenient for you. Hi, my name is Linda and I grew up in this house and still use it for vacations and family gatherings. I love my country house and do my best to make it warm and inviting for you. My husband and I spend winters doing what we can to make our vacation home better for our customers, so if you have any ideas of things you might like to see to make it better, please leave us a note in our guest book. We use your ideas!!
Our house is very special to us. It was passed to me from my mom and dad - Jess and Mezelle Greer. My husband and I have remodeled it with love and dedicated it to them. Although we have our own home, this one will always remain special. My parents worked all their lives to build and pay for it, so we lovingly share it and our memories with you.
This is a quiet, country home where visitors can kick back and enjoy themselves and also enjoy the simple country life of hiking, fishing, biking, picnicking......together with the beautiful scenery, various festivals which are frequent in this area, and of course...the Virginia Creeper Trail. Look for visits from the various wildlife which comes around frequently. There is deer, turkeys, and a bear that wanders around from time to time. Take some time to just sit in the enclosed front porch and marvel at the peace of our country home.
Linda and Sue, You certainly have a cozy, welcoming little cottage here! Reminds me of my grandparents home long time ago without the remodeling you have done! We've spent lots of time on the Creeper Trail (on foot), enjoyed meeting another hiker couple from Italy who had been on the AT 40 days! Having just finished a book "There Are Mountains to Climb" about a woman doing it alone in 1994, I was fascinated to meet them! Such a relaxing front porch. I think the things I enjoyed most was the wonderful fresh, honey suckle-laden mountain air & wild rose smell! Heavenly! And since we live just across from a dairy farm, it was especially welcomed. Loved your pictures, colors, country touches and us cooking in the kitchen. I felt at home! Oh and 2 turkeys and about 20 babies took their family walking across the top of the back yard and to the road at 7:15 am--delightful!
Great house located close to Creeper and Appalachian Trails.
House was very clean and maintained
Easy communication with owner, no problems
Garage full of outdoor games, firewood for fire pit, nice outdoor shelter, closed in front porch for morning coffee
This property is by far the best place to stay in Damascus! Right off Jeb Stuart Highway and nestled on 2 beautiful acres: look no further your home away from home is right here!! Everything you could possibly want or need in a vacation rental is provided. Beautiful amentities, comfortable and meticulously thought out. We cooked outside on the BBQ and roasted marshmallows in the firepit; wood and skewers provided. Badminton, horseshoes, corn hole and plenty of yard to play any game you want. A kitchen that rivals your kitchen at home.
We have been coming to Damascus to ride the Creeper Trail and hike the trails at Grayson Highlands for five years now and this is truly the best place we have ever stayed.
Linda Sharpe has opened up this beautiful family home full of her memories and it was an honor to get to experience them as well. I think we have found "OUR HOME AWAY FROM HOME." We will without a doubt be back again.
The Shields Family
The home was in a beautiful location and had all of the amenities. We enjoyed playing badminton and horseshoes on the property.
We very much enjoyed our stay at the Mountain Home, and have recommended it to many of our friends looking for clean, spacious, and affordable mountain retreats. The rooms were clean and well appointed, the kitchen and bathroom facilities in great shape, and everything appeared to be recently refurbished. The house is perfect for a family or group of two or three couples to get away and enjoy everything that the Green Cove area offers. We biked and fished nearby along the Creeper Trail (the property is a few short miles from the top of the trail and one of the bike rental shops); and the yard and covered picnic area behind the house provided everything needed for a group BBQ and lawn games. We definitely hope to return here for future getaways and holidays-- the owners are wonderful folks and responsive to requests; and everything was very well maintained, comfortable and convenient.
Our stay at "Our Mountain Homeplace" was wonderful. The house was just the right size for our family (although there was room for more) and was extremely clean and well-kept (we regularly stay at vacation rentals when we are away from home--this rental was probably the cleanest one we've seen yet!). The kitchen was well-stocked, allowing us to prepare all our meals there. The owners were diligent to keep in touch with us and let us know about the area and any additional things they thought we needed to know about. The view from the kitchen window was beautiful--mountain foothills, farm animals, trees, all set against the beautiful sky the Lord has made--breathtaking. We really enjoyed sitting outside under the shelter in the (BIG) backyard, taking in the scenery and the amazing scents of the country. We had a truly restful time and would definitely recommend this home to our friends and family. We plan to return if we are in this "neck of the woods" again.
This is our second stay in what feels like our "home away from home". The minute we walk in the door, it seems like one of our very missed grandparents will shout "welcome home!" You can tell this home has been lovingly cared for by Linda - my husband and I are at an age where just being in a country home like this brings back great memories. After a great day on the Creeper trail down the mountain or biking from Damascus to Abington and back (don't forget to do this part of the trail, breathtaking scenery!) it was so nice to come back for a relaxing evening enjoying the outdoors. Linda has thought of everything, firewood
which we put to use every night after we cooked out on the provided grill, fully stocked kitchen, there is nothing Linda hasn't thought of for her guests. This place is immaculate, we will absolutely be back. Thanks Linda for sharing your Mountain home with us!
