Florida House Rental Photos and Description

Spacious 3BR/3BA on a private beach, Minimum 28 day rental

Whether you are a beach lover, a birdwatcher, or on a hunt for the perfect sunset, our home is just the place for you!

Located on a private white sand beach, towards the end of a secluded peninsula, the house has 270 degree panoramic views of 3 bodies of water (San Carlos Bay, Tarpon Bay, and Ladyfinger Lake).

It is also situated in the heart of the Ding Darling Wildlife Refuge. A variety of bird species perch on our dock during the day, and you can spot dolphins and manatees playing just a few yards away. The property is also home to a family of endangered gopher tortoises! Watch the wildlife from the comfort of the home, or take a kayak out to the nearby Rookery Islands for a truly spectacular showing of birds.

The house itself has been recently constructed (mid 2011), with all modern amenities, appliances and styling. There is a pool and a hot tub, multiple TVs, WiFi, massaging shower heads, and a Bosch gas stove for the master chef.

This house is our little slice of heaven that we'd love to share with you. There's nothing like watching the sun set on the bay from the rooftop deck, or falling asleep to the soft crashing of the waves just 15 yards from the bedroom window. We hope you take a look for yourself!

About Kanika Ghai

Husband and wife living in Chicago, Both of us are physicians, and escape to Florida every chance we get!

Kanika Ghai purchased this house in 2009

Why Kanika Ghai chose Florida

We saw many places when we were looking to buy, but always came back to this one. We fell in love with it, and bought in 2009, and completed a gut-rehab in 2011.

Guestbook comments from the owner

Drs. (xxx)- We will be out of the house as scheduled this morning and want you to know how much we enjoyed our time here. This is truly a gift of nature and one of the finest locations on the island.......thank you for your attentiveness to things that go wrong.......Please accept this as our notice that we would like to rent the house next year......

Awesome location and vacation!

  • 5 of 5

We had an incredible experience. The location is amazing. We were able to see dolphin, manatee and other wildlife from the deck. The pool and hot tub were very nice. The house is labeled with use information and any questions were immediately answered by the owner. My only critique is the amount of no-see-ums that come with E location. Follow the owners advice so that you will not get bitten. I would definitely recommend this vacation rental.

Very relaxing, lots of space!

We enjoyed a wonderful stay at the house. There was plenty of room for our family and we had all the amenities we could think of! Great sunsets, lots of nature all around. Even was blessed with an up close visit from a manatee family!

A beautiful property in a beautiful setting

  • 5 of 5

Having recently returned from a week at Dolphin Watch, we are already wishing we were back there! This is a lovely home on a quiet road, affording lots of privacy in a gorgeous natural setting. Easy access to the main drag in town meant that we were not far from conveniences, but just secluded enough to feel like we were in our own private oasis. Spacious for our family of four, but the house could easily accommodate 3 couples. The pool was lovely, and the wildlife off the dock was breath-taking. We saw dolphins almost every day just beyond the property. The screened-in porch was a wonderful way to watch the sunset, and though we didn't eat in very often, it would also be a great way to enjoy an evening meal. Sanibel has lots of great restaurants and cute shops. It is an easy area to navigate either by car or by bike. It was wonderful to be out exploring the island by day, and then to return to this sanctuary in the evenings.

It was apparent that the homeowner cares deeply about his property, and the times we were in contact, he truly made us feel more like friends than renters. If you are looking for a cookie-cutter, run of the mill house, you could find plenty of them...but if you are looking for that great blend of comfort and luxury, convenience and seclusion, check out Dolphin Watch.

Terrific Location, Terrible Owner

  • 3 of 5

There's no doubting the fact that the house is situated in a beautiful spot, dolphins, manatee, plethora of birdlife every day. There's no better start to your day than sitting on the dock, coffee in hand watching the sun come up, or a cold glass of wine at sunset.....until it collapses into the bay, finished off by a storm due to poor maintenance. Unfortunately there were quite a few long-term maintenance issues with the house that the owner was aware of and he took it upon himself to have these fixed during our stay, not understanding that we had booked the house for a quiet, relaxing vacation and when after nearly 3 weeks of almost daily intrusions we said enough was enough he started to send threatening and bullying emails. He thought it was perfectly acceptable to have a new dock installed over 4 full days of our vacation with workmen in the yard, the beach, the water and using electric from the lanai, but apparently they wouldn't be in the house, so this was supposedly ok. We found it very difficult to get a straight answer out of the owner before we arrived regarding bikes & kayaks and no wonder. The bikes all had flat tyres and the bike pump was broken, one of the kayaks had splits in the hull which we didn't find out until my husband was way out in the bay and it was taking on water - good job he was in it and not me as I would not have been able to get it and myself back to shore, but when mentioned to the owner he was blasé about the risk and knew of the problem. The lanai door was broken and the top lintel fell off hitting my husband on the shoulder, there were plenty of scruffy notes round the house saying "don't do this", "don't use that" "do this or face a fine" and lots of yellow twine denoting broken items or roping off half of the beach. And if you're not happy cleaning bird poop in the pool area on a daily basis this isn't the house for you - yes we know it's on the edge of a wildlife preserve, we've vacationed on Sanibel for many years, but when you have to go to Jerry's for cleaning equipment (along with mugs & decent cutlery) and spend over an hour on your first morning cleaning off baked on poop it's not much fun. Even the pool guy doesn't clean it up! Finally beware of the CCTV cameras on the property-it's funny how 5 minutes after arriving back the owner would ring with yet another message re contractor visits. No doubt he will dispute my review but I have photos, video and emails to substantiate everything.

Owner's Response: Of course, we'd prefer if all of our guests’ vacations were smooth-sailing. But when unforeseen issues arise (like Tropical Storm Collins), we work very hard to mitigate them and maintain a positive experience. We think our previous renters would agree. While we were not in the path of the storm, high winds and tides caused damage to many properties in the area, including ours. Sometimes a storm like this gets the best of a one-year-old screen door and an older, but objectively well-maintained, dock. We value guests desire for peace and privacy, but we do schedule “intrusions” for their convenience (i.e. pool cleaners, lawn mowing crew), or at their request (in this case, fixing the aforementioned screen door). A damaged dock, is a safety hazard for both guests and nearby boaters. We do not feel comfortable with these types of liabilities on our property, and it is our policy to fix them promptly. We would have liked to coordinate with her to make sure the necessary work was minimally intrusive. But when she avoids phone calls and is uncooperative to the people we’ve hired to help her, our hands are tied as hosts. Eventually, due to extreme lack of cooperation, the dock had to be fixed after she left. Our next guests were gracious enough to allow the work, and we were happy to offer them a rebate for the inconvenience. The dock renewal was complete just a few days after they left and is now in top condition. As evident from the photo labeled 7/5/16 As to the rest: 1. Cameras on the driveway and back entrance are for security when the house is unoccupied, not for spying on guests. I suppose when you’re trying (and failing) to reach someone all day, you might get lucky and catch them right as they get home :) 2. Per our rental agreement, kayaks and bikes are not for renter use, for exactly the reasons she listed. 3. This house is rented out most of the year, so normal wear-and-tear and attrition of mugs/cutlery (someone has a picnic on the beach and drops a fork — we don’t blame them!) is to be expected. But between an on-call caretaker and Amazon prime, we can address any concern quickly! Ultimately, I was sympathetic to the weather-related circumstances, and believed that good customer service meant not judging whether her frustrations were reasonable or not. So, we gave a one-time exception to our no-cancellation clause, offering to fully refund the remaining portion of the rental if they were unhappy and wanted to leave. She declined our offer.

Wonderful!

  • 5 of 5

This is an easy review to write. We've just completed our third stay in the house, and have already booked to come back next year. I think that says it all.

The house is wonderful, as is the location.

We can't wait to return.
