Great view but the house has some serious issues.

  • 1 of 5

When we arrived the house had been well cleaned but...it wasn't really opened up. The doors, which are also the windows were all covered. The air conditioning in the bedrooms was either a freezing hurricane or off. We chose to open up everything and use the natural wind to cool and get fresh air. Also, there were not really any instructions. We had to experiment to get anything to work. Hints about how to keep the house clean during the week would have been nice. The beds need new sheets! The ones there are clean but so worn it felt like there was sand in the bed on the very first night. No shower curtains so the bathroom rugs got soaked. It was a good thing there were two bathrooms because we needed all the supplies from each.

Since the correspondence from the owner was all automated, we figured the place didn't get much TLC. The only reason we stayed here was because we planned this at the last minute, we wanted to be near friends who were staying up at Rum Point, and we are campers so we figured we could sleep anywhere. It was a good thing we weren't expecting much.

Owner's Response: Hello Anonymous, I am disappointed to hear of your sub-par stay in our vacation home. Your experience was not a "typical" one. I will do my best to address all of the issues you listed in your review. 1. The louvered doors are covered to keep the wind from blowing the sand in the unit when the unit is unoccupied. Our on-island Property Manager is supposed to make sure those are removed before our guests arrive. She obviously missed that and for that I am sorry for the inconvenience. 2. The air conditioners were functioning well to the best of my knowledge. The remotes can be difficult to understand and perhaps that was the issue. There are several settings that can be adjusted to accommodate your comfort level. Once again, sorry for the inconvenience. 3. As far as instructions go, there are only a couple of things that could require any specific instructions(the T.V. and Air Conditioners)... maybe it would be best if added those for guests. Thank you for the feed-forward. 4. Not sure what you mean by "hints to keep things clean throughout the week." Cleaning supplies and brooms were available to you. 5. We will buy new sheets based on your comments, but even a few grains of sand can make the bed feel scratchy. I can assure you ALL linens are removed, cleaned and/or replaced before each guest arrives. Thanks again for the feed-forward. 6. As for the shower-curtain issue you mentioned, the shower stall is mostly enclosed with a permanent doorway cut-out which does allow some water out onto the floor. If the water was soaking the floor then the shower nozzle must have been pointed towards the shower entrance...which I could see being an issue. 7. I can assure you that the correspondence with me is not automated. I respond to every inquiry and question personally. I will admit that living in Colorado and having a family with 2 full time working parents can make it difficult to attend to every little issue our vacation home has ...but it is incumbent upon me to make sure every guest happy, regardless of guest expectations. I will address each of these issues you mentioned and do my best to accommodate future guests. And I think future guests have you to thank for improving their future stays. Once again, my apologies for any inconvenience you experienced during your stay. I strive for a 5-star review from each guest and if I do not succeed then I haven't done my best to make them happy. Sorry again for letting you down.

Excellent location for snorkeling.....

  • 4 of 5

Decent property, right on a great reef & we went to snorkel so for us that mattered the most. It was very windy the 1st couple days we went (January). The screened porch overlooking the ocean was pretty sandy and the wind was so much that we couldn't make use of it the first few days, but there was a hose to wash it off with. The unit is nice, kitchen is a bit of an odd layout-not much counter space, but nice to have. There were some odds and ends for condiments in the fridge when we went which was nice, enough pans to cook, had a blender and microwave, could have used a few more utensils. Small grill. Plenty of towels/ bath and beach. Property seems to be a bit tired from the salt air. There was no tv, just movies. Wifi worked well. TV Remotes lacked batteries, had to go purchase them and had to buy a/c batteries too. Not horrible, but annoying. Power went off every day apparently (we were only there once when the power was out) but the neighbors said it had gone off every day for a short time...the only way we knew was when the power went out one of the a/c units in the bedroom we didn't use automatically turned on. Walking distance to Rum Point. Nice to have a cloths dryer handy. Get your groceries on your way in from the airport for better selection.....Small restaurant called Kurt's place just when you turn down Frank Sound Rd was great and affordable.

Clean and great amenities

  • 5 of 5

We have stayed at the Sea Lodges (different unit) once before, and found this stay equally as enjoyable. The unit was clean, comfortable and offered a beautiful view of the ocean. We love the character of the Sea Lodges, and the location is hard to beat! Chad was also very responsive and professional. Overall great trip to Cayman and we hope to visit again soon.

Just what we wanted!

  • 5 of 5

We did a lot of research on this property, including reading the other reviews on this site. The lodge was exactly as we expected and included some amenities that we didn't expect such as swim fins and other beach toys. The lodge was clean and plenty spacious for 5 adults. The housekeeper, Barbara was kind and responsive. The snorkeling immediately off of the beautiful beach was excellent, see Testudo's snorkeling guide for more info. We saw many fish, a ray, a turtle, and a couple barracuda. The accommodation is also very close to Rum Point which is great for some local drinks and food as well as more water and beach activities. Other restaurants we enjoyed were Over the Edge which is on the north side and Tukka which is on the east side. Overall a great stay!

Good, but not what expected

  • 4 of 5

This condo near Rum Point was nice and looked just like the pictures, however be aware there is no ac in the living room , which caught us off guard. The rooms however do and sleeping was comfortable. TheRe is a great ocean breeze at night that makes sitting in the back room lovely. The beach for us was really disappointing. We expected the crystal blue waters we remembered when we were at Seven Mile beach on our last visit. This Beach had quite a bit of seaweed and reefs all along the shore, which made it difficult to step around sharp rocks sticking out the sand. Since we don't snorkel, we didn't want to deal with it to get to the clear water that was just beyond. Rum Point was definitely not what we expected. One restaurant, one shop and not all that. Starfish Point just beyond Rum Point was lovely, but not much beach to spend the day on. Instead we drove daily to the west coast and enjoyed the clear and clean water of the 7 mile beaches. Govenors and Tiki beaches were the most visited by us. The 40-50 minutes drive was manageable, but not one that we wanted to do for dinner in the evening so we were limited to the restaurants on the East End - One that was closed the entire month of July. Overall the condo is well kept, and is comfortable...it was the nicest condo in the cluster. If you are looking for a more "local" experience this may be what you are looking for.

Owner's Response: Thank you for taking to time to write a review for other travelers to read. I wanted respond to a few things you mentioned regarding your stay. There is no A/C in the Main Living Area due to the size of the space. It would be a futile effort to condition that space. There is a large industrial ceiling fan and the ocean breeze is usually sufficient. Both bedrooms have A/C to make sleeping comfortable. Our private beach is cleaned everyday by our hired grounds crew. You are correct, there is some sea grass along the shore. However, you mentioned reefs along the shore that make entering the water difficult. The only reef is the Eastern Coast Barrier Reef that is over 150 yards out from the shore. Along the shoreline, there are some rocks under there water, but there is typically a sandy "pathway" that you can walk out waist deep water to get through the sea grass. The walkway is on the northern end of our private beach. The pictures on our site are not altered and I can assure all future guests, the crystal clear water is the same as Seven Mile Beach . The only difference is the 10 liner feet from shore of sea grass. In our experience, Rum Point is a quiet and relaxing hangout. There are 2 restaurants; The Wreck Bar and Grill, which is open from mid morning through late afternoon. In the evening, the Rum Point Club is open for dinner. Both have wonderful food and service...and adult beverages! There are roughly 8 restaurants within 15 minutes from our location. We typically stay home and cook dinners, play cards, and enjoy the evening sea breeze. In a weeks time, we may go out to dinner a couple times. The local fare nearby satisfies our needs. Seven mile beach is much more "touristy". With that comes more food options, but also not as relaxed in my opinion. I think you accurately describe the experience as a "local" one, but do not give an accurate portrayal of the overall "vibe". I think in my description of our unit's location, I mention that it is a quiet and relaxing one. If you want a " touristy" feel, then Seven Mile Beach is where you would want to stay. It sounds like you enjoyed your stay in our unit, but unfairly dinged our review due to your inaccurate expectations. It sounds like you expected Seven Mile Beach...which it is not. Thanks again for taking the time to write a review, but I suggest asking/researching what to expect before you book a rental so you are not disappointed. Best regards, Chad

5 Star Excellent Rating!!!

  • 5 of 5

This was our first visit to Grand Cayman Island and the experience was spectacular! The views of the gorgeous turquoise Caribbean Sea from the living room are breathtaking! The condo was so perfect that some days were spent simply lounging in the living room or screened patio enjoying the ocean view, drinking frozen daiquiris and listening to the calming sounds of the ocean and palm trees. Truly a relaxing experience! If you're seeking a quiet location away from all the tourists, hustle and bustle, then look no further. What's also great about this location is that 3 of the 5 best voted beaches on the island (Rum Point, Kaibo and Starfish Point Beach) are all located within 5 minutes from the condo. Can't get any better than that! I recommend that you stop by Fosters grocery store (and Big Daddy's liquors) both located right next to the airport and each other before heading to this side of the island for all your food and beverage supplies. Don't worry, if you happen to run out of things you can drive 10 minutes down the road to Chisholm's. It's a small family owned grocery store with amazing customer service! It may not be as big as Fosters, but they will have most of what you'll need to get through the rest of your trip. Plus, the Owners are wonderful people! We really enjoyed spending our vacation on this side of the island away from all the tourist madness that you'll find along seven mile beach. Definitely going back to Grand Cayman Island and staying in this wonderful cottage by the sea again!
