Colonial style farmhouse on 16 acres of woods and fields. Close to hiking, skiing, bike trails, ponds, reservoirs, and the very quaint towns of Bovina and Andes. Internet, cable, microwave, cappuccino machine, washer/dryer. Antique/contemporary mix interior with art from friends( I'm an artist and run a gallery in Brooklyn), kitchen is original with 60's metal cabinets, some new track lights, good new stove and old fridge. Upstairs are two bedrooms. One with a queen-sized bed and furnished with grandfather clock and antique dresser. The other upstairs bedroom has children's toys, books, games, and one child's bed. Downstairs is another nice bedroom with a queen sized bed, semi-healthy cacti and nice morning light. Downstairs living room has a fireplace and a sofa bed. There's a patio with a large new Weber grill and rustic table and chairs. Nice place to get some work done in peace or just relax. Very quiet, beautiful valley views. There are about 70 mature blueberry bushes in front, that come ripe in mid to late July, and are incredible. The next door, part time neighbors have a gorgeous, classic barn that is nice to contemplate when drinking martinis in the evening while sitting on the stone steps. Spectacular view of the night sky from the fire pit up the hill is also wonderful, especially when there are comets and owls and coyotes out.
I'm an artist and not for profit gallery director in Bushwick, Brooklyn.
Eric Heist purchased this farmhouse in 2000
I love the house because it is a wonderful place to get away from the city, to breathe some incredible air, enjoy the quiet sounds of nature, and generally to slow down. Many artists my age bought second homes around the time I did, so its a good place to find seclusion with the opportunity to socialize in a more relaxed manner with friends.
There is a fire pit on the hill that overlooks the valley. On clear nights you will see incredibly brilliant skies with occasional very dramatic comets. There is a pond across the street that my son and I like to explore for frogs and salamanders, and the pond further down the road has a beaver dam with ducks and occasional herons. Wild turkey, owls, coyote, deer, rabbits, groundhogs, foxes, grouse, hawks, pheasants are all around. There are bears, too, though I've never seen one on the property. There are about 70 mature blueberry bushes on the property that bear fruit in July/August.
We stayed for the weekend and had a really great time, this is the perfect place to stay in the Catskills. The house is very nice, peaceful and well equipped with everything you will need. We will be staying again, thank you Eric!!
Two of my friends and I stayed here for Three days and it was an excellent stay.
The house was comfortable, and the moment you walk in you feel at home. The Scenery by the fire pit is great. Theres no cell phone service at the house but there's wifi and a landline. Eric, the owner of the place is extremely nice, and is nothing but a ring away if you need him, as well as the house keeper. We needed some more groceries so we drove out about 20 mins to the nearest supermarket. There's also a great collection of books in the study, which we thouroughly enjoyed. In coclusion if you're looking for some tranquility and just want to enjoy yoir significant others company or spend some qt with friends or a small family this place Is the place to go.
(FYI VERY KID FRIENDLY - Swingset, Child's bedroom, Childrens DVD collection)
For the adventure seekers - There's hunting, fishing, hiking among other activities in the near area).
Belleayre Ski Center is about 30 minutes away, Hunter Mountain is about 40 minutes away, there is a small slope in Andes, Bobcat, that is about 20 minutes away. The reservoir is about a half hour away, with swimming nearby at Big Pond, also nice hiking around the reservoir area. In nearby Andes, the Andes pool is free to all , the Andes Hotel restaurant is nice, and there are many antique shops, small clothing stores, and other shops. The town of Bovina is very beautiful, with one general store that serves very nice sandwiches, and a bakery, Two Old Tarts, that has wonderful food. Delhi has a large supermarket, cafes, an organic market, great old hardware store, etc.
