Description

Northwest District Apartment Rental Photos and Description

One bedroom furnished apartment in the best location in all of Portland

This apartment has it all! It is located in a historic victorian house, yet entirely brand new with stainless appliances and marble throughout. Less than a block from NW 23rd shops and restaurants. Just three blocks to the Street Car (local mass transit) which allows easy access to all of Portland. Staying here, you will probably never have to use a car to get around downtown. Privately gated (only for this apartment) and personal outdoor patio area. Pet friendly and with two dogs parks within a 7 minute walk. Apartment also has its own laundry room. This truly has one of the best walking scores in all of Portland. Some of the best restaurants and shops are just a block away.

If you have been to Portland before, and you have spent time in the Northwest neighborhood, then you don't need any further reference, but if you haven't, then you are in for a treat. This apartment is located in one of the oldest and most authentic parts of town, the Alphabet District. This is a basement apartment in the 'Ella Rand' house, which is a Queen Anne Victorian once owned by Henry Louis Pittock. The only downside is that although there are windows in the bedroom, kitchen and bathroom, there really isn't much to see. If you want the view, please stay on the 20th floor at the Hyatt!

Amazing location, roomy and well supplied. Would stay again in a heartbeat.

Arrival was straightforward and easy, we were able to settle right away a day start enjoying the area.

The apartment is clean and the kitchen, bathroom and laundry room had basic consumables supplied. (K-cups, sugar, tea, salt & pepper, laundry soap, bath and hand soap, even toothbrushes and toothpaste!) Having those things handy made our stay that much easier.

The only "complaints" I have would be....The bed and the couch are not the most comfortable but it didn't prevent us from lounging on the couch or sleeping well. And the Keurig coffee maker needs a bit more attention between renters. There were coffee grounds and old water in the reservoir when we went to make our first cup - I cleaned it up and ran several cups of water through it to get it all flushed out, after that it was fine.

The area this apartment is in has extreme walkability, pretty sure you could stay a week without ever getting in a vehicle and never eat at the same place twice. Easy and close by public transit makes it possible to explore the rest of the city too. We did have a rental car for the week so we could take trips to the coast and mountains as we pleased. Parking is not the easiest if your priority is to park close by, if you aren't afraid of a 10 minute walk you can park for free by driving up (literally) Westover Rd a few blocks, once you get to the section with a tall wall on the left side parking is unregulated. We parked there our entire stay and just counted it as warm up for our hikes each day. :)

Nice stay but some issues

  • 3 of 5

We really looked forward to visiting Portland. The reason the stay wasn't as pretty as thought it would be, is the horrible parking situation. And that's the big issue with this apartment. We decided to take this site since the website says: "Staying here, you will probably never have to use a car to get around downtown". The better would: You better come to Portland without a car.

Prior to booking I asked in an E-Mail to the owner about the parking situation with the apartment. Answer: there is a lot of free on street parking available around. When we arrived we got a parking lot at once. This was because we luckily arrived on a sunday and the parking was free on weekends.

Be alerted: Parking is limited to 4 hours on weekdays between 9 am an 5 pm.

This didn't really fit to our plans. We wanted to park the car for the whole stay and explore Portland by bus. This didn't work because of the limited park regulations.

Immidiately after check in I e-mailed the owner and explained the situation. He answered, that some streets uphill (at least 300 ft. away) parking would be free, but he went wrong. Of course, parking was free but limited to four hours as well.

By the way: The problem could easily have been solved: Why does the owner not get a parking permit for the apartment (what would be possible)???

The other issue was, that the porch wasn't really usable, it was not cleaned up. Cleaning in the apartment could have been more thoroughly.

The apartment itself is spacey, well equipped, the internet works well. A lot of bars and restaurants within a short walk. If the parking problem could be solved we'd stay here again perhaps.

Awesome location!

  • 4 of 5

We spent a great three days exploring Portland from this site. The accommodations were perfect and the location was excellent. Easy walking distance to 23rd so lots of options for food, coffee or an evening drink. We walked most everywhere. The Washington Park is close by which contains a number of sights including the zoo. Transit is close with access to wherever you want to go. The air conditioning definitely helped with temperatures pushing 100 degrees.

We had fun and would definitely book again on our next visit to Portland.

The issue about parking not really an issue...yes, you have to pay but really close all day parking.

Cool apartment in Portland

  • 5 of 5

Great place and location to all the cool places in Portland. Dining, coffee and parks are within walking distance. The apartment had everything we needed for our stay. It was very comfortable. Loved having the full kitchen and laundry. Parking can be an issue, but we found a lot down the steet behind a building that was safe and close to the apartment. We did have to pay but it covered us for 12 hours even though it said 4 hours. Wonderful place in a great location. I'd stay there again for sure. Owner was easy to get a hold of and very helpful with our needs.

A bit run down, not for families.

  • 2 of 5

The house above the rental is awesome. Very beautiful. However it is a rental property as well and shows. The back patio has broken umbrellas, overgrown plants, and garbage sporadically around. The renters above are young and not in a place similar to my family (we have a 4 and 6 year old). We could smell their "vape-pens", and occasionally saw them. Not what I want my kids around. One night the tenets had a very loud get together with a game of charades and my kids were up until 11:30! Some inappropriate words were being yelled.

The property inside also needs a bit of love. Cobwebs were frequent and the carpet had a musty smell. Our kids sat on the couch, and when a cushion fell off, there was crumbs and other debris all over. The kitchen was fine. Ice machine was broken, as was water on fridge.

We felt parking was tough. You have to pay all over (about $6 for every 4 hours). Which we struggled with because we wanted to leave our car all day while we explored using public transportation. And we didn't want to risk a ticket, so we had to juggle that.

The benefits:

1. Laundry!!! We were on a two week road trip, so this helped a ton. We brought our own detergent and stuff. But some was there.

2. Very close to lots of resturants, shops, ice cream (salt n straw), and trader joes.

3. At 11:30 pm when the noise level was too loud, I called the owner. I was pretty sure he didn't live upstairs, but I had no other choice. I couldn't go out with my two kids all in pj's to tell random people to keep it down. No one answered my call (I thought I was out of luck), but within 5 minutes I got a text and was told the noise will stop. And it did! So the owner does have contact with the renters and took care of the issue. I should have called at 9:30.

Overall this place has potential, and if you don't have kids and are night-life people...this place might be great for you.

But for my family, we would not stay there again.

Amazing location

  • 4 of 5

Couldn't of stayed in a better location, shops at restaurants just steps outside the door! The apartment has everything you need and it was especially nice to have a washer and dryer, one of the main reasons I picked this place! It may not be the Ritz, and could use a little update, but you have plenty of space to come back to after a long day of exploring. I didnt realize Parking would be a bit of a pain, i dont like to pay for parking and move the car every four hours, so we ended up parking about a mile away, we went up 23rd street crossed Burnside and continued over a bridge and found a spot! The owner of this property is great, we had a minor issue and they took care of the issue asap! We had an amazing time in Portland and would love to go back one day! Thanks!
