We have transitioned to full time life on the Sunshine Coast over the past 4 years. John operates his part time consulting business from the 1 BR suite in the coachouse, Janey has recently retired here. We both like to be active and the Coast is a perfect venue for road cycling, kayaking, golfing, dragon boating, paddle boarding, gardening and during winter months cross country skiing, yoga and working out at the great aquatic centre and gym in Sechelt.
Janey Talbot purchased this house in 2000
It is rare to find a waterfront property so private and quiet. Doing a full renovation of the existing cottage in 2010 was exciting and fun for both of us.
The sliding glass doors create an 8 foot opening onto the deck so that inside and outside blend as one. The great room includes a massive well equipped kitchen with bar seats for 4 so that meal preparation becomes a 'participatory' event. Comfortable leather loveseats and 'Stressless' swivel recliners give everyone a view of ocean or gas fireplace. The handsome table seats 8 people.
We had a very nice weeklong vacation in this beautiful home during the week of Christmas 2015. The house is well-situated for a nice walk to Sargeant Bay Provincial Park, and if the tides are favorable, you can usually make it along the beach all the way to the park. The views are hard to beat, and we enjoyed watching bald eagles right outside of the large windows, as well as people pulling their crab pots out of the bay. This would be a great place to visit during the spring and summer as well, though we did brave the rain and wind for some chilly games of horseshoes!
The house is very well set up for a family to spend time together for a holiday vacation or small reunion, with its large kitchen island right next to a very comfortable living room and dining room. All of the appliances worked very well for our meals, and cooking utensils are plentiful. The three rooms (2 quite small rooms downstairs, 1 larger room upstairs) were well suited for the five of us (2 couples + 1 single person). We would definitely recommend this location and this house for an escape from Vancouver or for an introduction to the Sunshine Coast. Thank you to Janey and John!
We had a wonderful mini-reunion at this beautiful home -- spent 8 luxurious days getting to know our new granddaughter and spending quality time with our son and his wife (Janey had a basket of age-appropriate toys waiting for us upon arrival). The exceptionally well-equipped kitchen was perfect for our holiday meals and the open concept let everyone get involved ... assuming we could keep our eyes away from the views or using the binoculars to zoom in for a close-up of the eagles flying by. Baby in the backpack and off we were for trail-walking and exploring the area in general (Halfmoon Bay Cafe was almost a daily stop for great coffee and pastries!). Ringing in the new year here was the best, with the perfect balance of winter outdoor activity and relaxing times reading by one of the fireplaces. A very special place ... we're planning a return visit, that's for sure!
Our stay at this lovely home was nothing short of perfect! Loved the new contemporary design with the gourmet kitchen and ocean views from every room. With all the amenities and extras is really felt luxurious to stay there. The photos with the listing are spot on, and of course the ocean view was even more spectacular in person. It really made our getaway feel romantic and special. Loved that the location was quiet and remote, but amenities were only 10 minutes away in Sechelt. There was easy access to the ocean and Sergeant's Bay Park was just around the corner. The owners were very pleasant and accommodating, and made us feel welcomed. Would highly recommend this to anyone and plan to return some time.
A wonderful week of relaxation and natural beauty. We loved the home, the luxury atmosphere and the proximity to the natural environment. Janey was a fantastic help. We fished, went kayaking and hiked nearby. Most of the time we lounged on the patio and soaked in the surroundings! Was a perfect week to unwind with my husband and inlaws. Lots of room for two couples.
We stayed here over a long weekend recently. It is more spectacular than the photos show. Fully loaded kitchen/Great Room and Dining area - all look over the ocean. Loved that the TV not in this area..but downstairs instead. Spotlessly clean, beautiful wrap-around deck, new barbecue, up to date bathrooms and loved the soaker tub looking over the ocean! Some of us enjoyed the outdoor shower!
Close to hiking, kayaking, groceries but you feel far away from it all. Enjoyed the Eagles soaring overhead and watching the seals.
Owners excellent to work with, very accommodating and friendly. Liked that did not have to pay for cleaning and because owners had the place spotless for our arrival, we did the same when we left!….would recommend to friend or relative. :)
My boyfriend and I along with one other couple enjoyed New Years Eve at this beautiful property. The views are stunning and you must wake up just to see the sunrise. Inside, the main living space and kitchen are perfect for hanging out, dining together or playing board games. Although we had some rain we enjoyed the spa at Painted Boat and were able to get dry firewood in town. Enjoying roasting marshmallows and watching the near by houses set off fireworks over the water for New Years will be a great memory. The nearby general store has anything you may have forgotten and our cat even enjoyed a stay at catnip cottage just 10 minutes away. Our only regret was not bringing a canoe.
The property is easy access waterfront and beach; walking possible both right and left along the ocean from the property. Within 8 minutes you are in a provincial park, Sargent's Bay Park.
The Park has an interesting wetland and bird sanctuary as well as hiking and mountain biking trails. The bay is somewhat sheltered and a good kayaking and boating area. Trail islands are a 45 minute kayak away.
