I have been renting this condo since 2012 (which can be verified at the bottom of this page). In order to ensure the protection of both parties, I do not accept any reservations that are requested within 14 days of arrival. The credit card used to book a reservation will be verified with matching government photo i.d. upon arrival at my property.

Clean heritage 1-bedroom apartment in the heart of downtown Ottawa that was renovated, restored and refurnished in 2015 and 2016.

This well appointed suite is fully furnished:

Perfect place to come home to!

I was recently in Ottawa for a work visit for four nights and decided to try VRBO for the first time. I was looking for a place that could be easily accessed at a late hour as I was going to be arriving at 2 am. This place was accessible by code, looked clean and nice, and was in walking distance to downtown (about a 20 minute walk).

The kitchen was surprisingly stocked with spices and coffee, so well organized, and very clean. There was also a dishwasher and washing pucks to help with cleanup. The bedroom was very nice, comfortable, and fairly quiet. In the morning, one does hear some traffic around 7 am. I was also surprised to find a washing machine and dryer! The living room was stocked with a tv, games, toys, etc. and had a very comfortable couch where I did my work all week. The building overall is very quiet.

The location is pretty convenient as well. There are a number of buses that stop just a few feet away from the building heading to various locations including downtown and to Carleton University.The Byward Market and University of Ottawa are just down the street, about 10 minutes away. There is a Metro, liquor store, and shoppers drug mart within 5 minute walk.

I have another trip to Ottawa next month and am annoyed with myself that I prematurely booked nonrefundable accommodations at a hotel. I wish I had reserved this place again!

The previous guest, and the guest who stayed immediately after Luba, both left some pretty mean-spirited comment (for self-serving purposes). ~~~~Luba, as well as the overwhelming majority of my past guests (whether they left a review on this website or not) loved their experience with my property, the neighbourhood, and dealing with me. On rare occasion, people do have a valid complaint, and I take it quite seriously and will do my upmost to correct it. I encourage all my guests to contact me immediately so that I can fix the issue while they are still enjoying the condo. I take my responsibilities as a host quite seriously. ~~~~With virtually all of my guests being like Luba (honest and decent, respectable and fair), it makes hosting an honour. I truly enjoy what I do. I will continue to offer my home to guests from across Canada and from around the world, and I will do whatever needs to be done to continually maintain and improve the condo. ~~~~My goal has always been to offer more than what the guests expect (such as the abundance of amenities that Luba mentioned...spices, canned goods, shower gel, dryer sheets, etc.~~~~My rates are fair and are typically less than a hotel yet you get an entire apartment including a full kitchen, washer/dryer, separate living room and bedroom.~~~~I am pleased that Luba wishes to return and I am grateful that so many of my business travelers return often. It is a sign to me that my guests truly appreciate what I offer.

Very disappointed with condition on rental property!!

My wife and I had asked to be meant by a property representative whom never showed up. We contacted owner who provided us with a pass code for main entrance and condo. Upon entering the condo we found that the appearance was not like that depicted on the web site. The floors were very noisey and were supposed to have in floor heat, however the heat was provided via radiators. The kitchen counter top was surfaced with floor tiles with missing grouting that was very dirty and not the solid surface depicted in web site. The kitchen floor grouting was of the same condition. The box spring was brown due to it's age but the mattress looking a bit newer. The wall surfaces were not all covered in paint but was left with dry wall compound. The bathroom ceiling was disgusting, different colors that may have been mold. Upon leaving the condo and entering the common entry room we found electric wires on the floor covered in duct tape, unfinished wall surfaces and just plain dirt. We would like a full refund. We left after a few mintues and booked a hotel. I'm sure the fire marshall, ottawa tourism association, etc would be very interested in the condition of this property. I have pictures if you require them.

Owner's Response: This guest booked the wrong condo. It was simply an error on his part and he did not realize it until he arrived at the condo (and possibly not even then, which could explain his unwarranted anger at me). All went well before he entered the apartment. Of course he was disappointed because the apartment he walked into was completely different from what he thought he was getting. I tried to resolve this with him but he stormed out and then refused my phone calls and texts. I did not fully understand why he was upset until two weeks later when he explained why he felt the condo was misrepresented. That was when I realized this was a condo mix-up on his part, based on his description of the condo he thought he had rented. The in-floor heating and solid counter he mentions is not part of the description or photos of this condo. This was simply a matter of human error on his part, and nothing to do with any sort of misrepresention. This website acknowledged that the description he provided of the condo he thought he had rented was, in fact, another listing I have on this website. I have a reputation of being a reasonable and responsible host. I was quite upset that David and his wife Heather left without any sort of conversation between us. He has since made some unfair and untruthful claims about the condo, the building and me. I truly wished that things had worked out differently but I cannot help someone who refuses to communicate with me. To date, David has not discussed this matter with me so this website has acted as mediator. I do wish David and Heather all the best in their future travels, but I hope they will realize that staying at anothers' home requires the willingness to communicate openly and honestly with the respective host. Anyone can make an error, and if they had been willing to discuss this with me, I would have found a solution (in fact the condo they thought they had reserved was available for the majority of their stay so they could have been accommodated in the condo of their original choice). I have reviews on this website as well as hundreds overall and the overwhelming majority are very positive about the condo they mistakenly booked, and the building overall. It is a shame that I had no opportunity to fix things for this couple because I am sure that they would have enjoyed their stay, as have many before them. Very Disappointed

This was my first time using VRBO and it was a learning curve. I should never have rented a place without knowing the address so that I could research first and two, I should have paid attention to the quickly displayed cancellation policy during the booking procedure.

The suite itself was just as described, cute, semi quiet, loaded with supplies and tastefully decorated/updated. The service was thorough and efficient as one would expect from Catherine who rents units all this time. I however, did not stay in the unit, even though I paid for 4 nights, as I did not feel safe going from the taxis to the door or taking a bus or walking anywhere. I luckily located a B&B within several blocks away and I found it to be completely comfortable and easy for me to come and go. I feel that it is unfair not to give the potential client all "key" information such as location before they make the commitment to book. Also, I was trying to cancel the booking 14 days before my arrival date and there was no flexibility with this at all. My only choice was to land at the unit , check it out and see whether or not I'd stay once I got there. I would not recommend this rental to others for the reasons I have stated. There are many VRBO properties that have no problem letting you know exactly where they are located and they tell you the refund rules BEFORE they take your credit card number.

Owner's Response: It is always disappointing when a guest decides to use the review process as an opportunity to extract revenge. I believe in honest reviews and assessments and I encourage them, but to use this forum as an attempt to damage the reputation of another unfairly is very disappointing. This guest decided, just shortly before her arrival, that she would accept an invitation to stay with a friend while in Ottawa. After a brief exchange of emails, Debby told me she understood my position about a last minute cancellation (which was clearly stated in the rental agreement Debby had to sign before this website would confirm her reservation). There was absolutely no 'hiding' of information from me. I have been a host on this site since 2009 and I have a solid reputation. Debby chose not to stay at the condo (without telling me), but she did choose to leave this heavy-handed review. I was not surprised by her decision to leave a negative review because of her comments to me when her security deposit was returned (on time). I have received many positive reviews for this property as well as the four other properties in the same restored and renovated 1871 heritage mansion. I have re-read the email exchange between Debby and myself and it is clear there was no misunderstanding about the agreement, the location, the amenities or the terms. As the majority of my reviews state, my past guests enjoyed the whole experience - the location, the amenities. cleanliness, the closeness to the tourist attractions, plus their dealings with me and the professional way I take care of the condos. That is all any guest should expect and a reputation that I am quite proud of. I have been in the same predicament as this guest when I have traveled. My husband and I have used this website since the early 2000's when traveling all over the world. When our plans changed (and on rare occasion that happened) we didn't behave unreasonably towards the host. That is unfair. This relationship between host and guest must be built on trust. And, my husband and I would never think to use the review forum to intentionally hurt another person unfairly. I am always deeply pained when a guest is unhappy with any aspect of the experience, but I cannot let the threat of a bad review change my positive feeling about what I offer to my guests.

Great little home base!

This compact unit was perfect for 2 people who were about and about all day.

Our biggest challenge was managing the radiant heat (it was hot) but that was likely because of crazy exterior weather fluctuations.

Easy walking to Byward, National Art Gallery, Parliament Buildings, War Memorial and Rideau Centre. Or, there is a bus stop right out front.

Owner's Response: I am so pleased Jill enjoyed her short stay in my apartment in Ottawa and has chosen to stay again. Wonderful! While Jill was here, the temperature changed from -15 to 7 degrees in a matter of hours!!! This is an 1871 building, and the walls are extremely thick so the building can retain heat for a while. It was just an extreme weather system that caused the building to be hot, however, the apartment has lots of windows on two outside walls in each room so it is easy to cool it down quickly and that is what Jill did. The location, as Jill mentions, is convenient to the Byward market, Parliament Hill, Rideau canal, many embassies, Rideau Centre, and you are able to walk to virtually everything. But if walking is not for you, or you are tired at the end of a long day, you can take any one of 4 major bus lines directly to the building or cabs are plentiful. Parking is conveniently located a 1/2 block (30 second walk) from the building with in/out privileges. Thank you Jill for being such a good guest and look forward to seeing you soon! The place itself was nice and clean. The couch is not overly comfortable to sleep on, but it is doable. The place is on a fairly busy street and there was a lot of street noise. It was convenient to downtown, groceries and other amenities as well.

Owner's Response: I am pleased that my guest found the accommodations nice as well as close to the downtown. Most of my guests find that the apartment is quiet, day and night, because of the brand new and well-made windows and door. As well, the apartment is at the back of the building, far back from the street. But, a small percentage of my guests may prefer to be in a quiet neighbourhood (but then they give up the conveniences of being steps away from shopping, restaurants, transportation, banks, pharmacies, etc_).
