|Minimum Stay||4 nights|
The cottage comprises 115 sq. m. on two levels and offers room for 4 to 5 persons. It has 2 double bedrooms, 2 bathrooms, a fully equipped kitchen with dishwasher and washing machine (incl. dryer), oven, microwave and all other amenities required to make you feel at home. There is a fireplace in the living room, digital TV, radio with record and CD players, telephone. The large deck offers a stunning view over the Saar valley. The house is built on a slope and has its separate entrance. There is space for 2 cars to park on the premises.
Ingrid and her husband are very welcoming hosts. As they live below you - you could call on them with any concerns. It was so hot during our holiday (almost 40C some days!) they provided us with fans to cool the bedrooms in the evening. Needless to say we didn't need to put the open hearth fire on!
The welcome bottle of wine was so good we asked them where they got it- direct from the local vineyard- so we visited there before going home to bring some bottles back.
The house was as described by other guests before us. A home from home.
It had everything you could need. It was clean, comfortable and well maintained.
My husband and I loved to sit on the balcony in the evening and admire the lovely view over the valley. My daughter loved the additional writing/reading area in the upstairs hall, near an open window where the hillside breeze could blow in, and she could write and read in peace.
The only drawback for some guests with mobility difficulties might be the number of stairs to climb, as the property is built on the slopes of a lovely peaceful valley. However, the property is worth the climb.
It was a great central location for touring the surrounding river valleys of the Saar, Mosel and part of the Rhine. You are so close to Luxemburg we did several days of touring there and also crossed into France to go to a castle not far from the border. However, the wide range of places to visit in that area of the 3 river valleys will mean we plan to return to this holiday home and visit favourite places and visit some we didn't have time to see.
The local town of Saar is a very pretty market town with a good range of shops in a small town centre- with lots of restaurants to chose from. The supermarkets are just outside the centre only a short car drive downhill from the property.
We had a wonderful stay in this home. The location is on the top of a hill with a stunning view over the valley. Ideally located between the Moselle valley, close to Luxemburg, and the pittoresque village of Saarburg. The guests were attentive, welcoming us with local products and Easter treats. I really recommend this place. If ever going back in this area, I surely will go back to this cottage.
As a family of four, with two teenagers (11 and 14), our stay at this wonderful house couldn't have been better. The hosts provided us with a very nice home away from our home. The surroundings were breathtaking. There, we could walk through the cornfields and wheatfields and enjoy the wonderful views of the region. The town of Saarburg, not even 10 minutes away by car, was a charming little place to walk through and enjoy its beautiful architecture and flowers with no hustle and bustle. The house itself was very spacious with the option of having meals either out on the terrace with fantastic views or inside in the very comfortable dining area.
The beds were specially comfortable and every night we slept very well. The kitchen was fully equipped with everything we needed to prepare our meals.
Overall we recommend without question a stay here, with or without children.
Until next time,

If you want to get away from the hurly-burly of a big noisy city, if you want to become younger, at least for a while, to be with your beloved ones than why not choosing to go to the 7 stars cottage, the hospitable home of Ingrid and Volker.
Out of endless elegant options found of Homeaway.com site which did become more than a hobby, a land of fairytales and dreaming, we preferred and arrived there in 2009 just me and my husband.
This year 2010 we took our parents, whom we wanted to share the same chance which we had last year.
We enjoyed together from simple to out of ordinary things such as drinking our coffee on the wide terrace every morning, wherefrom we could touch the clouds behind the trees.
What a delight to be in no moment at all in Saarburg, the candy town where Saar, Mosel’s friend winds.
Don’t miss the occasion of sampling the marvelous liquid from the vineyards, hidden even inside the town, on one of the pubs near the waterfall or on the deck of the cruise boats.
It’s located at the crossroads between Luxemburg, France, Belgium and Germany, just a “minute” walk from our accommodation place.
In our nest we could recharge our batteries after being in Trier, a milestone, of many happy trips.
By the evening, we used climbed up to Nittel, just for the pleasure to meet little friendly cows which seemed to wait for us in a green piece of heaven. They were our guardian angels, offering us mental and spiritual comfort on our way home on the cidre route.
After a shower in the equipped bathroom, on our way we couldn’t help noticing the huge bowl filled with corks extracted from the numerous bottles of gorgeous wine experienced by many guests. We enriched the collection with our personalized cork from the present bottle offered by our dear hostess Ingrid.
The living and dining room, which we will miss tremendously, displayed such wonderful objects speaking about good taste and care about invited people becoming friends.
All the time we discovered a novelty which made us smile.
Enjoy this real wonders!
So, given the beauty of the surroundings, a mixture between tradition and modernity we left our nest otherwise we would have spent all the time inside, feeling so welcomed and respected by our very discreet hosts.
What else to need more: fresh air, the town’s proximity, quietness, sleep well, good food, good interior taste, friendly people.
We can’t thank you enough for the beautiful time we had.
We will come again!
Alina and Emil
The Cottage de Berger is situated 6 km outside of the 1000-year-old historic city of Saarburg in the lovely border region Germany, France and Luxembourg. The area offers many excursions to France, Luxembourg, Treves (Germany's oldest city), Idar-Oberstein (jewellery) etc. Marked hiking trails through forests, fields and nature, uphill and downhill are the joy of every hiker. Saarburg itself with its famous waterfall in the middle of town, vineyards and the oldest bell foundry in Germany is a jewel - also called Little Venice. Surrounding the waterfall are numerous good restaurants. Wine degustation at the many vine growing estates will be one of the highlights of your holidays. Roundtrips by boat on the Saar and Mosel operate from Easter to the end of October.
Other Activities: Boating, sailing and rowing on the Saar and Mosel rivers
