Why Kim or David chose Puako

It's just that Puako is such a rare and special place and to have a chance to Live Work and Play in this area for many years now, We count our blessings, Mahalo David & Kim

What makes this cottage unique

Other than LOCATION LOCATION LOCATION, I would say;The fact that the property had an original !940's Beach cottage which was worth saving and we wanted to continue giving folks a chance to enjoy this incredible area and in the style of an earlier Hawaii that helped to make this a special choice for us Mahalo David & Kim

Not well seen from the road this "cottage" has it all! Completely stocked medicine chest, not just a first aid kit. Kitchen with everything and more to cook, with coffee maker, espresso make coffee grinder. All the condiments you need or visit the herb garden for fresh Avocado, liliqoi, rosemary, oregano. The beach with turtles, tide pools for wading and snorkeling just a short walk away or drive a beach cruiser bicycle. Super sunsets every night ,occasional whales just offshore. Comfortable furnishings, interesting artwork throught the house. Good for a family if the kids are very well behaved and respectful of the house and contents. Front and back outside eating areas or dine in kitchen. Great restaurants only a 15 minute ride, uber available. Unobtrusive hosts David and Kim live in the back separate house available to answer questions and recommend beaches, restaurants. Private parking space. My wife and I had a very wonderful time and will return again.

Delightful house and gardens.

  • 5 of 5

The pictures shown here do not do this place justice!

We really couldn't have found a better place for our little get away. Two friends – a writer and an artist. We spent tons of time on the deck in the morning drinking coffee, drawing and writing; and on the lanai in the evenings, eating delicious meals and enjoying gecko watching. As cooks, we appreciated the well stocked kitchen with every appliance we needed at our finger tips. Great washer and dryer plus clothes lines. Outdoor shower (we never used the one in the bathroom). Big bath towels and beach towels. Two great cruising bikes. When I told David I needed a helmet before I could ride, one appeared on the lanai the next morning. Asked if they had yoga matts? They found some for us. But what I loved most was sleeping with the doors and windows open to the warm nights and the subtle breeze (two women and we felt completely safe).

Beds are comfortable with down comforters, four different types of pillows on each bed. Tons of hangers. A water filter so we didn't have to buy bottled water!!! A composting bucket so the house smelled fresh because the compost didn't go in the trash.

I believe they have thought of everything to make their guests happy and comfortable. I would definitely recommend this house – eloquently delightful!

Charming, and well-appointed Puako rental

  • 5 of 5

The house was lovely, with the accessories we appreciate- beach chairs and equipment and lots of beach towels!

I especially appreciated the Hawaiiana art, and decor and also how comfortable the setting was. My friends and I made good use of the nice porch furniture and I was especially glad the front porch was totally private and also got sun during the day!

If we get to Puako again, we will definitely stay at this property.

Stayed on Hawaii nearly a dozen times and in that many different houses. This is not hyperbole: we'll never stay anywhere else again. The house had it all for us. We were not wanting for any beach items, or cooking items, etc. The house is well taken care of and the property owners absolutely care about your experience. Thank you!

Great location for a quiet getaway

  • 4 of 5

We loved it in Puako! It's quiet, friendly, and nicely dark at night. This cottage served us very well with some rustic elements, but all the modern conveniences. David was a great host, allowing us privacy and being there for us when we needed something. There is a beautiful private deck (as pictured) and the beach is a short walk across the road. A major plus for us was the supply of beach bikes for rides in town or to the Shops at Mauna Lani.

Puako is the only ocean side residential community on the Kohala Coast. It is still a well kept secret of original cottages and large estate homes nestled on the coastline where all of the major 5 star resorts have been built. Small beaches and petroglyph field within walking distance. Sheltered reef for snorkeling, shore diving, swimming, under water photography.
