Why Kim or David chose Kohala Coast

It's just that Puako is such a rare and special place and to have a chance to Live Work and Play in this area for many years now, We count our blessings, Mahalo David & Kim

What makes this cottage unique

Other than LOCATION LOCATION LOCATION, I would say;The fact that the property had an original !940's Beach cottage which was worth saving and we wanted to continue giving folks a chance to enjoy this incredible area and in the style of an earlier Hawaii that helped to make this a special choice for us Mahalo David & Kim

What a Cool Spot!

  • 5 of 5

This cottage is excellent and is exactly what we hoped for. Plenty of room for 4 people, TWO lanais for hanging out, the property is really well landscaped and beautiful. The owner's house is in the back but cleverly separated with foliage and blinds. We felt like we had this piece of paradise all to ourselves. The cottage is just a few houses down from beach access, where you can sunbathe and see turtles resting at night. Then, we often spent days at Beach 69 or woke early and found parking at Muana Kea. Puako is unique, it's a quiet, friendly neighborhood that is in a really cool spot. Lots and lots of cool stuff in waling or biking distance then even more cool stuff a short drive away. It's a great value and the owners are super friendly and easy going.

Perfect home in a dreamy location

  • 5 of 5

We couldn't recommend David and Kim's place more highly! Great value, charm, comfort, and personality, combined with one of the most beautiful spots on earth. Plus, David was so helpful and a font of information.

We loved the location of the home, on the Kohala Coast of the Big Island, in the completely charming neighborhood/beach front community of Puako. The best snorkeling was there, the best turtle viewing, and the best weather on the island (we were there in winter).

The home is comfortable, attractive, and has everything one might want to use: towels, beach chairs, bikes, a well stocked kitchen, and even good beds. We slept 4 very comfortably.

The garden and front lanai are also lovely. The only downside of the tropical garden setting is the mosquitos, and we managed fine by staying inside for meals (the door and window screens are all solid, so no mossies inside).

Thank you for sharing your home with us!

We loved our stay!

  • 5 of 5

We loved our stay and would return in a heartbeat. A spacious, appealing accommodation with everything we needed-a well equipped kitchen, beach chairs, cruiser bikes, snorkel equipment, boogie boards, covered and uncovered outdoor spaces, and plentiful beach towels. Walking across the street to some of the island's excellent snorkeling, sunset viewing, and whale and turtle viewing was phenomenal. David gave us excellent tips for exploring and provided extra touches that made our stay special. We would return and recommend in a heartbeat!

Wonderful Stay

  • 5 of 5

This was our first time renting a property through VRBO in Hawaii and we are so glad we did! It was great being close to Kohala and Kailua-Kona, but far enough away from hotel, shops, etc that was extremely quiet and peaceful. The cottage was everything we needed for our 5 night stay and much more! David made us feel welcome and at home from the moment we arrived, and was willing to be as much or as little involved in our stay as we wanted. If you have questions or need suggestions he is very kind and helpful, but if you want independence and seclusion you will never see him. The sense of peace and hospitality at the cottage was very refreshing, and I would recommend it to anyone staying on the west side of the island! We definitely hope to return some day.

One of the best ever....

  • 5 of 5

One of the best VRBO's I've stayed at in Hawaii. I've stayed at many and not sure if any were better. Great location on the Big Island, much better than staying at the nearby resorts (you can walk or bike to the Fairmont in just a few minutes along the shoreline). Neighborhood is very nice with many access points to rocky shoreline for walking or seeing turtles. One of the best beaches in the world (Hapuna State Park) is a four minute drive away.

David has constructed the bungalow with meticulous care and tastefully furnished. It's not really advertised as a two bedroom unit but could easily accommodate two couples with enough privacy. Lots and lots of room - spacious kitchen, large covered lanai and another outside patio. Lots of beach toys, bikes, etc. I will stay here again and would strongly recommend it to anyone.

Puako is the only ocean side residential community on the Kohala Coast. It is still a well kept secret of original cottages and large estate homes nestled on the coastline where all of the major 5 star resorts have been built. Small beaches and petroglyph field within walking distance. Sheltered reef for snorkeling, shore diving, swimming, under water photography.
