Summer Vacation

  • 5 of 5

We have already provided this information to Marlee.

The Hatteras (Bonner Bridge) power outage occured half way during our vacation.

We had to evacuate per Government direction 1 day early.

We love this house and have stayed there 4 years.

GREAT home, location, etc etc etc!

  • 5 of 5

What do you do when you have dozens of family members wanting to get together once a year and need a home base to gather and make memories? You rent this house!! This location can't be beat. Many family members don't want to sit on the beach all day, so with this close proximity, we were all able to come and go easily. Also, this home had the most bedrooms at this price that we could find, and that's important when you have a big group. We enjoyed many planned and impromptu meals in the the huge open living/kitchen/dining upstairs. The kitchen is plenty big enough. The bedrooms/baths/suites are nice as well and suited us. Marlee replaced mattresses due to some previous reviews; what great service!! She was very responsive, friendly, and welcoming. We enjoyed the large number of beach towels, toys, and chairs. Also - not sure why someone else complained about the views. Are you kidding me? You can easily see the ocean and the sunrise from many windows in the house. As shown in the photos, this house does not have as many huge wrap around porches facing the ocean as some others. HOWEVER, this was not a stumbling block for us and will not stop us from renting it again! This part of the banks is skinny so you can see the SOUND from the porches that don't face the ocean. Works for me. The elevator was useful. Rodanthe is a great town if you've never ventured down there - WAY less traffic than the towns up north such as Duck and Corolla. It's SO easy to venture back north to Kitty Hawk etc for sightseeing purposes due to a smaller population. Also, even though it's a smaller village, you can WALK to the Rodanthe Pier for sightseeing and fishing, walk to the beach, walk to shops across the street to the left or right of the road the house sits on, plus a new venue just opened across Hwy 12 called Hwy 12 Amusements, which offers wall/rock climbing, laser tag, mini golf, bowling, and an arcade. When we went, the prices were CHEAP as compared to similar thrills further north or in Gatlinburg, or other touristy locations. And the restaurants close by - check out the taco truck by Hwy 12 Amusements. WOW! And Lisa's Pizza was good. There are other options too. Also there are a couple of places on the sound side nearby offering paddle boarding and jet ski rentals. This has been my FAVORITE week so far in the Banks, and it was my 8th year vacationing out this way. My first year staying south of Nags Head, and I can't ever imagine staying north again.

Very clean and amazing space

  • 5 of 5

All went very well. Owner was very responsive and helpful. The only thing I would fix is the beds/mattresses. Not very comfortable and you could feel the springs.... plus all we're very squeaky.

Spacious well maintained home with amenities galore. Home owner is extememly responsive. Rodanthe is a quiet beach with fantastic waves. You can fish from the peer right beside the house. Truly a perfect location.

5.5/5 stars - absolutely perfect!

  • 5 of 5

Can't say enough good things about our experience. Marlee was awesome to work with from start to finish. The location is great - just a 100 or so yards to the beach and a 5 min walk from kitty hawk kites and other surf stores. The beds were comfortable and there were enough bathrooms so we weren't waiting on anyone in the morning. Best of all everything worked! The pool, hot tub, pool table, and ping pong table keep everyone occupied and having a fantastic trip. If you're planning to do a lot of cooking main kitchen is a little small when cooking for 20 people but 2 grills help relieve the workload. Can't wait to come back!

House and Location are great

  • 5 of 5

We were a bit early in the season and the first rental this year. Week started 4/8. This worked for and against us, mostly for. The house is well located with views and a short walk to the beach from a cup-de-sac at the start of the pier. The kitchen is small, but works well and the social areas were really well used by our crew. There is plenty to do and the house is quite comfortable.

Marlee and her local help are very responsive and easy to deal with. She is apparently also a dog lover and welcomed our two goldens. They loved it!

The pier is MONEY! Kids loved fishing, catching skates, puffers, and mullet with ease. There were some exciting moments from other's catches as well.

The downside to being so early is the drive to conveniences. Both the grocery store and fish market are in Avon, about 17 miles south. Other's nearby were not open or stocked yet - and were surprised that the one in Avon was.

We will return - hoping our spring break is a little later next year.
