Conveniently located, GFO is a compact studio that sits between Mauna Kea & Kohala mountains on Sunny side of Kamuela (Waimea), Hawai'i. 1-2 miles to countless great dining and shopping in downtown Kamuela, 10 miles to Hapuna and other beautiful world renown beaches. It is a quiet neighborhood (not far from HPA campus) with easy access to multiple facets/climates of this Island. Active health oriented community. Ideal for independent travelers, a single or couple on vacation or business.
Accommodations include a comfortable double bed, with full bath & well equipt kitchenette that allows you to eat in if you wish. There are dishes, pots, pans, eating and cooking utensils, a ¾ sized refrigerator with separate freezer, one burner butane cooktop, microwave oven, coffee grinder & makers and rice cooker. Access to gas grill.
Pasrty, juice & fruit are provided for morning after arrival. Please inform me when booking if you have specific dietary needs.
Several good farmer's markets are available through the week: Wed 9-2pm, food stalls, jewelry, fruits & vegetables, baked & sweet delights; Sat 7-2, two separate markets, with food stalls, fruits & vegetables, plants, florals, local island cheeses, gifts, and an herbalist. A good health food store in town.
Recommend rent a car, our island is large and public transport not convenient for travelers. Airport rentals are easiest and best rental car rates, usually obtained a few weeks prior to arrival. A GPS is helpful especially if arriving in the evening, it will bring you here directly. The Hele On Bus stops on the road near the house, rate $2.00, $1.00 for senior. Please check: (http://www.heleonbus.org/schedules-and-maps) for schedule. The Hilo/South Kohala map shows routes that lead to hotels & beaches. The Waimea Shuttle is our local area.
This is a non smoking, no fragrance property. If you do smoke, please go for a walk to do so, thus smoke doesn't linger about buildings or neighbors'. Please dispose of cigarette butts in closed glass container with water to eliminate odors. Place in recycle center.

Great base in Waimea to explore the Kohala coast and Mauna Kea. Jean's cottage was lovely and well-designed! We enjoyed the cozy kitchen, which was compact but had everything we needed. Also, she thoughtfully provided bread, fruit and juice for the first day which was a great touch. Jean has a great gentle spirit and was pleasant to talk with. Will definitely come back if we visit the Big Island again.
I stayed here as for almost a month as I was performing at the Hawaii performing arts festival.
Everything was just perfect, Jean was a fantastic host, the house was immaculate and there were lots of lovely little touches!
I prepared food in the house daily and had all the utensils etc that I needed. I was sad to leave and would definitely return!

We really enjoyed our 11night stay in Waimea. The suite was comfortable and had a nice homey vibe. Everything was clean and well maintained. Waimea town was cute and convenient and I definitely recommend the Big Island Brewhaus for dinner.
Just a delightful place to stay with all the needed amenities and even some extras for the more environmentally minded. Our hostess was caring and friendly and we were able to do everything we wanted to!
