About Maire Lee

Mervyn and I returned to the Highlands after living overseas for most of our married life. Our three daughters are all grown up now but have always felt that the North of Scotland was 'home' and return often. We bought Fodderty Lodge in 2001 and our roots went deep and spread wide very quickly! It is in the middle of a wonderfully friendly area and even we were pleasantly surprised to discover just how accessible so many places of interest are. You can go North, South, East and West and will find exciting things to do in every direction. We have holidayed ourselves in many self-catering cottages, and have a very definite idea of what makes a Good holiday base, and what makes a Bad one! We hope that we make everyone who visits feel welcome in our special part of the world. The photo was taken from the top of Knockfarrel looking over Strathpeffer....slightly windswept, but spectacular!

Maire Lee purchased this cottage in 2001

Why Maire Lee chose Scottish Highlands & Islands

Fodderty Lodge enjoys a rural location, but is still only 20 minutes from the small city of Inverness (the capital of the Highlands). There are theatres, restaurants, cinemas, swimming pools etc within easy reach. Dingwall, with shops and supermarkets, is only a couple of miles away as is the Victorian spa village of Strathpeffer. There are many walks around and golfing and fishing are closeby. It is a nature lover's paradise.

What makes this cottage unique

Maire welcomes you personally and introduces you to your accommodation. She is on site should you require help or advice about places to visit whilst staying at Fodderty Lodge and has many local tips and real insider knowledge. There is a drawer full of tourist information, with suggested itineraries for you to get the most out of your days, but she will also leave you alone to discover places for yourself if that is your wish! The cottages have many 'extra' touches, books, DVDs, games, magazines, and there are even folding picnic chairs for you to use from your car during your stay. The Lees want you to leave at the end of your holiday with a positive feeling about Scotland, the Highlands and Fodderty Lodge.

EAST WING FODDERTY LODGE nr DINGWALL

  • 5 of 5

HAVING ARRIVED AFTER TAKING A VERY SCENIC DRIVE, WE WERE MET BY THE OWNER WHO LIVES IN FODERTY LODGE ( THE MAIN HOUSE). THE FIRST THING WE NOTICED WERE THE SPLENDID VIEW FROM THE GROUNDS. BEHIND THE LODGE IS A LOVELY WALK KNOWN AS THE CATS BACK, NO DOUBT A SPLENDID VIEW FOR THOSE WHO ARE ABLE TO WALK IT, (NOT FOR THOSE WITH BREATHING PROBLEMS).OUR HOST WAS WELCOMING, FRIENDLY, AND READY WITH HELPFUL TIPS, LOCAL PLACES THAT ARE WELL WORTH SEEING. THE ACCOMMODATION ITSELF, IS A LITTLE HOME FROM HOME, THERE WAS A REAL COMFORTABLE FEEL ABOUT THE PLACE. THERE WAS SO MUCH TO SEE AND DO, OUR HOST WAS ALWAYS ON HAND IF NEEDED WITH ADVICE, SUGGESTIONS AND GENERAL INFORMATION IF REQUIRED, WE NEVER FELT THAT OUR HOLIDAY WAS BEING TAKEN OVER. FROM WHERE WE WERE, WE COVERED SO MUCH OF SCOTLAND WHILST THERE, IT WAS JUST INCREDIBLE!!!! THE LOCAL HISTORY AND SCENERY AND WILDLIFE WAS DELIGHTFUL, AND DONT FORGET THE DOLPHINS IN THE MORAY FIRTH!!! MOST IMPRESSIVE!!! OTHER WILDLIFE INCLUDED SEALS, RED KITES, HIGHLAND CATTLE, PUFFINS(DUNNET HEAD), AND NOT FORGETTING THE MAJESTIC RED DEER!! WORDS ARE NOT ENOUGH TO DESCRIBE THE UNFORGETABLE TIME WE SPENT AT FODDERTY, WE CAN ONLY SUGGEST THAT YOU GO SPEND SOME TIME THERE, AND FORM YOUR OWN OPINION, FOR US, IT IS SOMEWHERE WE WILL REMEMBER FOR THE REST OF OUR LIVES, AND WILL RETURN AGAIN WHEN CIRCUMSTANCES ALLOW.

Owner's Response: Delighted that you had such a good experience of Scotland, the Highlands, the wildlife............and Fodderty Lodge. You certainly managed to fit a lot into your fortnight here, but, of course, there is a lot to see. Thank you for taking the time to write your kind review: I am sure it will be helpful to future guests. See you again, I hope. Maire

Fab cottage in beautiful setting

  • 5 of 5

We have just returned from a fab holiday, the cottage was exactly how we imagined - everything we needed and I just enquired if there was one particular thing they had and before I knew it Marie had been out and bought it for us - what fantastic customer service! Couldn't possibly ask for anything more. We stayed in Lodge Barn and it was exactly as advertised and portrayed on the web site. The setting was fabulous and to welcome us we had some beautiful flowers from the marvellous garden and tea, coffee and shortbread! In fact the family had been out fishing that day and gave us some beautiful fresh fish!

Dingwall has shops that provide all you need and the next village, Strathpeffer is very picturesque and interesting with plenty of hotels and a beautiful restaurant called Red Poppy which is located at the rear of The pavilion, at Strathpeffer .

I even joined in the yoga and Pilate classes at the community centre and found the local people extremely warm and welcoming. I recommend this cottage and area to everyone. It is so well placed to see the highlands and it is in such a beautiful and peaceful setting.

Most enjoyable holiday location.

  • 5 of 5

We had a lovely time at this delightful property. Maire was absolutely charming and welcoming. She had thought of everything to make our stay both comfortable and informative. The tide times were an added bonus as it enabled us to see the seals and dolphins on the Black Isle.

The property was very interesting and the history surrounding it was a joy to learn and a talking point for many years to come.

My cousins from USA were overwhelmed by the history surrounding Scotland, after all they haven't got anything "old" over there have they! They loved every minute of their time spent there.

I would thoroughly recommend this beautiful property to anyone.

It was better than "home from home"! Thankyou for letting us stay in your old world cottage.

Fantastic

  • 5 of 5

A wonderfully comfortable, well equipped cottage in a beautiful setting. Quality fitting throughout; nothing was left out and Maire was so welcoming and helpful. The area is wonderful and we are already planning to return to Fodderty Lodge next summer. It is definitely the best holiday let we've had.

A 'Home from Home'

  • 5 of 5

We have now been to Fodderty Lodge twice and have thoroughly enjoyed each experience. The apartments are clean, spacious and very comfortable and we felt at home straight away. The Lodge is situated in beautiful countryside with plenty of places to visit nearby. Dolphin-watching at the nearby Chanonry Point is a must and a shopping visit to Inverness is highly enjoyable. Maire and family make you feel very welcome with nothing being too much trouble for them and we hope to be enjoying a return visit in the not-too-distant future!

Fodderty Lodge is the ideal 4* destination for a quiet self-catering holiday in the Highlands. Free wifi. Between Strathpeffer and Dingwall, it is perfectly placed for exploring the whole of the North of Scotland: Ullapool and the West Coast can be reached in under an hour, driving on some of the most beautiful and empty roads in Scotland; Inverness, with an excellent theatre, swimming pool and ice rink is only 20 minutes away; Glen Affric and Loch Ness will take just over half an hour. The surrounding area has much to recommend it: many castles and golf courses; whisky distilleries; local fishing; Culloden Battlefield; charming Highland villages (Strathpeffer itself is a Victorian Spa village); beautiful beaches and a well known viewpoint for seeing the famous Moray Firth dolphins. The bird watcher and nature lover will be thrilled with daily sightings from the garden of red kites. Surrounded by many stunning walks for all abilities; the Ross-shire Pathway Network passes the gate.

Other Activities: walking, fishing, golfing, cycling, bird watching, clay pigeon shooting, distilleries

Golf: There are many golf courses nearby: Strathpeffer 2 miles away has a beautiful, challenging and sometimes humbling 18 hole Highland course; the links course at Rosemarkie 15 minutes drive away is in a stunning setting, jutting out into the Moray Firth; the championship course of Royal Dornoch is a 40 minute drive, as is the championship course at Nairn. Castle Stuart, hosting Scottish Open 2011-15 is less than half and hour away.

Honeysuckle Cottage and Fodderty Lodge are the ideal base for a dedicated golfing holiday.

Ski: We are about an hour and a half from the ski centre at Aviemore/
