Palm Springs Vacation Rental with that hip midcentury vibe. Gorgeous spacious condo - 1 bedroom 2 bath - sleeps 2 comfortably. Totally remodeled. Great location in a private, gated, historic, architectural community.

Welcome to our mid-century oasis at the Racquet Club Garden Villas in Palm Springs. We invite you to book a stay with us and enjoy the best of Palm Springs!

This gated, historically-designated complex of 37 units was designed in 1959 by preeminent desert architect William F. Cody FAIA, in collaboration with renowned landscape architect Philip A. Shipley who worked with clients such as Clark Gable, Kirk Douglas and Frank Sinatra.

Situated among meandering pathways, streams and palm trees, the historic Racquet Club Garden Villas provides the feeling of a private, lush retreat while being located just minutes from the lively downtown Palm Springs Design District with its new and vintage boutiques, Ernest Coffee, the Bootlegger Tiki Bar, Trina Turk, and numerous opportunities for fine dining, strolling and site-seeing.

Our fully-detached 1,100 square foot unit was completely re-done in mid-2016 to exemplify California modern living. It features an open floor plan, a custom kitchen with premium appliances, walls of glass, three patios, newly-installed landscaping, concrete floors, and breath-taking mountain views from the living and bedrooms. We have filled the home with original mid-century furnishings from designers such as Florence Knoll, Paul McCobb, Mies van der Rohe, Corbusier, Marcel Breuer, and Ray & Charles Eames. Even the dishware is classic vintage!

The gated pool and spa area is large and stunning, surrounded by palm trees and with abundant deck space. It's a great place to sun and swim during the day, or to relax in the spa in the evenings under a blanket of stars.

In addition to the master bedroom which includes a TV and a private patio, there is an additional semi-private sleeping-den area with its own full bathroom, and a Murphy Bed in the living room.

Additional features include:

* Large BBQ grill

* Dozens of books spanning decades of art, photography and literature

* Dual zone Nest heating and air conditioning

* Ample closet space

* Coffee maker, blender, and microwave

* Modernica king bed in master bedroom

* Premium TV package

* Two full bathrooms including a Whirlpool soaking tub

* Bose Blue tooth speaker

A short history of the complex:

From the mid-1930's to the late-1960's, the Palm Springs Racquet Club (now gone to history and located just adjacent to our complex) was the place to be in Palm Springs for the Hollywood glitterati. Truman Capote, Tracy & Hepburn, Marlene Dietrich, Marilyn Monroe (photographer Bruno Bernard is credited with first photographing her at the Racquet Club in 1947), Bogart & Bacall, Rock Hudson, Jayne Mansfield, Henry Fonda, Errol Flynn, and Ginger Rogers to name just some, all spent time at the Racquet Club. Expansion of the resort was soon needed which led to the commission of the Racquet Club Garden Villas, which were developed by Paul Trousdale (the developer of Trousdale Estates in Beverly Hills) to provide a private and exclusive hideaway for the show business elite. It is now part of Palm Springs lore.

A Lovely Base for a Palm Springs Visit!

  • 5 of 5

We were much impressed with every aspect of this vacation rental. It's set in an historic movie colony development, it's a perfect evocation of the modernist '50s, the amenities are everything you'd ask for, and it's impeccably designed and maintained. It turned out to be a perfect home base setting for a visit to Palm Springs and Joshua Tree. We even got an impressive windstorm as part of the experience! Now, if the owners would do something about the hour wait for the tram . . .<g>. Highly recommended!

Great getaway!!

  • 5 of 5

What an amazing and comfortable space! Stayed at the Modernist Gem during Desert Trip and had such a great time. The vibe is definitely mid-century but it feels very contemporary at the same time. The grounds are private and beautiful, and the pool is totally luxurious. It was a quick drive to our favorite downtown spots. Looking forward to visiting again!
