CHRISTMAS ON THE BEACH, YEAR ROUND - THE WEATHER IS GREAT!
Come enjoy the comforts of your own home, sprinkled with a Baja's Charm. Plan a Spring or Summer trip on our fabulous semi-private beach. Our weather is the same as San Diego(45 minutes North). Our best months are all year round.
The Ocean setting of the house sports a surf view all the way to the south end of the beach. We are exactly in the middle. There is a a mile and a half of beach in front of the house. Just TEN STEPS off the patio, you sink your toes into the soft, warm sand.
Our San Diego architect took maximum advantage of the ocean setting, lining both upstairs and downstairs with 4 X 8 foot panes of glass. (Very Unusual in a Mexican House) As a result, the Sunsets are both picturesque as well as a beautiful way to conclude your day. Fall/Winter and Spring are the best! (SEE PICTURES)
The house sleeps can sleep up to 8, but is ideal just 6 (3 couples) or two couples and two kids. In the upstairs bedrooms, we have two comfortable, recently upgraded Kings with Hotel quality sheets. The downstairs, is like one large Master Bedroom complete with fireplace, refrigerator, microwave and private bathroom. When we visit, my wife and I love it because we can both hear as well as see the waves. We sleep in the double bed. When there is a larger group or kids , we utilize the adjacent futon or foldout double bed. It is an ideal room to be inside the house, but separate from the kids. You can still keep a watchful eye on them by peeking over the railing. In the daytime it doubles as the game room with a mini ping pong/pool table and a chess set.
La Mision is a small, gated, patrolled, beach community with good restaurants close by. It is dotted with small markets, taco stands, Red Cross and a Police Station. There are an auto parts, a bakery and other small shops. For larger or tourist shopping we are only 18 and 25 minutes from two major cities. If you desire to visit Walmart, Home Depot, or other major chain stores, we have them.
As you step off the patio into the soft sand, look both ways. There is a mile and a half of enjoyment in front of you. We prefer the walk to the North for privacy. It is like being on your own private island. There is never a crowd. You will just have to experience the solace and tranquility to understand our feelings.
On the other hand, if you are a SURFER, we have a GOOFY FOOTED break right out front. The World renowned K-38 is just North of us, while Salasipuedes ( Hawaii type waves) and San Miguel are to the South. Check the internet listings for other Baja surf breaks.
CONGRATULATIONS DENVER! Ol' man Manning just retired. Now, maybe the Chargers might have a chance! During the NFL football season, we offer the Premium package with 185 channels. In addition to our SUNDAY NFL TICKET, we have kids channels and Spanish channels. The NFL allows you to watch all eight morning football (10 am. games. ) Then, in the afternoon(1 pm.), you can watch the remaining West Coast teams. Of course, you can always, just turn to the RED ZONE channel' and catch every score from every game. We also offer numerous other sports when football is out of season. Don't worry ladies, there are plenty of other channels to choose from.
For the professional golf enthusiasts, the season has started again. Hawaii, West Coast , Florida and Texas swings have concluded. The young bucks,Jordan Spieth, Jason Day and Rickie Fowler(San Diego) are continuing to dominate. Old man Michaelson (Rancho Santa Fe) had a great showing at Pebble Beach.
Remember for regular golfers, our Ocean course at Baja Mar is just 7 minutes down the road. Try your luck, but be sure to bring extra golf balls.
March Madness was a hoot. Congratulations, Villanova on your come from behind victory!
Congrats, Chile on your thrilling upset of Argentina in penalty kicks. The Olympics in Brazil are coming.
If you are a Volleyball Enthusiast, like I was for over 20 years, there is a court right out front on the beach. Nets are found at the beach level in the Boogie board room. Just bring your ball! For over ten years, I hosted the La Fonda, 2 Man Beach Tournament with ten courts in front of the house. In addition, with the help of my friends at CUERVO TEQUILLA, our committee put on the largest International Beach tournament(82 courts) at Estero Beach, just South of Ensenada. Over the years, a number of the players stayed at our houses in La Mision.
The weather allows us to have year round activities for kids and adults. The horseback riding on the beach is more like horseback walking. It is great for kids as well as being romantic for adults at Sunset. But, do not expect lively horses. It is more like horse walking than riding; however, they will, deliver you right to the front of the house on your return trip. Also, Boogie Boarding, Sea Shell collecting, sand castles and surf fishing are fun for the kids .
At the South end of the beach there are food vendors selling all types of Mexican food. The fresh fruit(Pica de Gallo) and the ripe Coconuts are the most popular.
COME VISIT US AND SEE!!!
This has been our weekend home away from home for some time now. Living in San Diego, it is just a 45 minute drive from the border, down the toll road to the house. When you are watching the dolphins feed just before a magnificent sunset, with you favorite beverage in hand, you will forget about the work week that you just finished. By listening to the crashing waves as they lull you to sleep, you return to the States invigorated, refreshed and ready for a new week..
Dick and Aracely Sampson purchased this house in 1970
If you are looking for lots of people, loud music, and younger 18 year old bars - Rosarito (20 minutes North) will be more suited to your taste. Ensenada (25 minutes south), on the other hand, offers a large, crowded city atmosphere with a fabulous fish market, reasonable fish tacos and lots of shopping. After you arrive, please, visit both nearby cities and see why we chose our quaint little spot on the beach in between them.
We have a number of restaurants within a mile. La Fonda, The Light House, Cieto Lindo, Maganas, and the La Mision Hotel to name a few.
Eight miles to the North is PUERTO NUEVO Baja's, Finest Lobster Villiage. A whole town of 20+ Lobster restaurants. Our favorite is La Perlita. It is located at the South East corner of the first cross street going South. Tell Lupe that "Ricardo de La Mision" says Hola(Hello). According to the story, a number of years ago, we built his second story with our lobster parties. We boiled them in a twenty gallon milk can. Also, we used to ship his burros (the largest ones) cooked and frozen back to Chicago for our family Christmas presents.
August is Wine Country month - Guadalupe Valley is 25 miles South East through a beautiful valley. But, you can taste wine and cheese all year round (preferably on weekends for wines and weekdays for Cheese). The third week of August, they promote a famous Vendemia with Jazz concerts, special Barbecued lamb chops, and wine tastings fiestas The Sunday conclusion is a Paella and wine tasting event. It has become so popular that tickets are sold on the internet in March for an August week of parties
For more intimate details of the various tastings, check with Dick.
COME JOIN US and SEE FOR YOURSELF!
Don't forget to look on the internet for other BAJA SURFING SPOTS. Yes, we have a GOOFY FOOTED break out front, but there are a number of other options nearby.
As mentioned above, if you like football or soccer, you don't have to miss any of your NFL games. The family can enjoy the beach while you keep track of your favorite team. You can watch two games or surf the channels for the other six.
To this day our resident Historian, Charlie Wild, 90 years young,(October 2016) tells us about the days before the toll road, electricity and the telephone. He says, "Those were the good 'ol days".
Of course, we have to imagine how we could have existed without King size beds, Direct TV, the Wireless internet, Gas BBQs, and our Satellite dish.
The beach is still as pristine, peaceful, and uninhabited as the day we arrived here. We live in Pacific Beach in San Diego. If you are from CALIFORNIA, you will not believe the difference on our uncrowded beach. Take a walk to the North and see for yourself.
Come check it out! You'll be surprised.

Thank you. After talking to you about returning the keys locally, it sounds like your group had a great time. I am glad that all three of you were finally able to surf together. I am sure that your friend from London was astonished at our weather and surf out in front of the house.
We are looking forward to entertaining you again in the Spring with even bigger surf.

I have now stayed at Dick's house in La Mision on two occasions and have been incredibly happy both times. The house is truly beach front, with a patio on the dunes and outstanding views. The house is located on a stretch of the beach that is relatively quiet, you may see a few people or horses pass by from time to time, but don't expect groups of people drinking/playing music/etc. I've had fun surfing the beach break right out in front of the house (FYI waves seem to have best shape towards 1/3 tide).
The interior of the house is ideal for a relaxing beach vacation. Comfortable seating, lots of couches and a fireplace in the great room to complement the ocean breeze. There's also a mini-pong pong table. Two bedrooms upstairs that are relatively similar, with large beds. The downstairs has a bed in the great room which has the best views. I've stayed there with 3 couples and the house held us comfortably, just be aware that, while the downstairs has the best views, it doesn't have the privacy of the upstairs rooms.
The surrounding area is fun to explore and I certainly recommend taking some of Dick's advice on activities. We've visited La Fonda for dinner and drinks, had casual dinner in La Mision, went on a fishing excursion in Ensenada, and wine tasted in the Guadalupe Valley. I highly recommend wine tasting in GV. The wineries range from rural, to quaint, to pretentious, but they are all relatively cheap ($5-$7/person). The wine doesn't compete with Napa, but you can't beat the experience.
Bring your dog as the dogs can roam free on the beach and eat as many crabs as their little hearts desire. Bring your car as there is much to explore. Bring extra wood to have beach bonfires (also allowed)!
My friends and I had a wonderful time down here (three couples, two kids). We enjoyed everything about it, from the great patio and huge ocean-watching TV windows everywhere, to being right on the sand, to enjoying a glowing orange sunset from the bar upstairs. The house had everything we needed--the kitchen is well appointed with spices, utensils, etc. and there were beach chairs and boogie boards galore, not to mention a sun shade and an umbrella, too. All we needed were beach towels! The downstairs bedroom is connected to/open to the living area, so it might not be ideal for sleeping late with other guests in the house. But since our friends who slept downstairs are early risers, it wasn't a problem. The owners are very friendly and professional, too. ¡Viva La Mision!
We stayed here for the first time in May and had such a great time we came back this past week! This place is paradise and the Sampson's are excellent hosts. You can't find a better view and the sunsets are absolutely spectacular. We've recommended this to all of our friends and will definitely return in the future.
As you suggested, we stopped at Carnitas Michocan in Rosarito for a one kilo order of the “puro carne central” to go. The Corn tortillas and the Carnitas were as advertised - Great. We arrived just in time for a terrific Sunset. We topped off our dinner with your lemon yogurt recipe for Margaritas. Boy, were they smooth and potent. Thank goodness, we were already in for the evening.
We awoke early and drove to the fish market in Ensenada. We bought a 7 kilo yellow tail. We had the front half cut in to steaks for the BBQ and the remainder for Cerviche. They saved us the trouble and ground it up at the market.
The ladies stopped to shop while we headed to the center of town to place our Super Bowl bets. Everybody was secretive about who and what they were betting.
On the way back, we stopped at that Tortilleria that you recommended. We indulged in two fresh packets of Harina and one of Maiz for our seafood fiesta..
After we finished the BBQ, we sat around the fireplace as the ladies sipped their Kahlua and milk and we had our Cervazas.
As we arose the next day for our usual beach walk, everyone showed their true colors. Out popped four Bronco Jerseys and my wife and I dressed in our old Seattle sweatshirts with green and blue sweats. Now, I saw why everyone was being so secretive about betting yesterday. They all knew I was from Seattle. Well, we showed them – Big time. I made enough to cover one day of our rent. Thanks
Great house. We’ll be back next year. We want to visit the Wineries.
Great spot on the beach. Easy to book reservations-- owner was very helpful and knowledgeable about the area. Boogie boards available at the property.
Plenty of sleeping spaces. Wonderful to listen to the ocean at night.
4th of July in Mexico is really a trip. Even though it is not a holiday in Mexico, when we went out to dinner, every beach we passed had the locals shooting fireworks out over the ocean. It was a beautiful site. They are legal there, but definitely not controlled.
In Texas, we have a lot of sand, but we sure don’t have those nice sunsets over the Ocean to go with it. Our friends met us at the San Diego airport and we all headed south. This was only our third time in Mexico. It was our first in Baja. With all the bad newspaper articles in our area, I was a bit nervous. But, when we entered the gate to the community and the guard asked us for all this information, I started feeling better. Our friends assured us that they had been here many times without any problems.
We played a round of golf on the Ocean course at Bajamar. It was really difficult. I went out with a dozen golf balls, but I came back with 10 different ones. People don’t seem to look for their lost balls in Mexico.
Your house was delightful. I ran the beach every morning. I took a lot of pictures in the Estuary. I also took a number of shots of the sunsets with the waves crashing on the rocks at the south end. I’ll send you some. The two part hieroglyphic Indian painting was amazing; however, the picture of last remaining Adobe wall of your old Mission was not that exciting.
Our friends were right. You have a great house –Right on the Sand. We had an enjoyable adventure. Now that we have more confidence, we will do it again in the fall!

LA FONDA Restaurant and Spa is one mile North. For their Sunday Brunch, You had better be hungry and thirsty. The Bloody Mary's I believe are still included.
