Rome Apartment Rental Photos and Description

Spring in Rome with Air Conditioning/Elevator/WiFi/Washer/Mobile - 2 BR/2BA

Ivy House is a 100 square meter apartment on the second floor of a palace dating from the sixteenth century, despite its late baroque facade, set up in Piazza di Firenze, in the historical district Campo Marzio, Rome center. Halfway Via del Corso, the shopping street with plenty of Rome's top boutiques, and Piazza Navona, one of the eternal city's most ancient squares, Piazza di Firenze is a favourable starting point to discover the historical center. The district also includes many venues for leisure, such as coffee and lounge bars, restaurants and pizzerias among the best in Rome.

The place is, with its wide rooms and two bathrooms, ideal for one family with children or two couples (there are two single beds convertible into double in one of the two bedrooms). It is truly home, full of books on the wall shelves for reading on the sofas (there are three! One is convertible into a double bed) furnishing a coffered-ceiling living room decorated with ivy leaves, from which the name of the apartment.

The hallway opens into the three-couched living room (there is one sofa bed) communicating with the oval-tabled dining room, the fully equipped kitchen (with dishwasher and washing machine), a passage to the bathrooms (the biggest with tub, the smallest one with shower) and the king-size bedroom (with iron headboard and wood wardrobe). Another bedroom, bigger than that (two single beds or one double), is furnished with two desks and TV. The rooms are lightened by bright walls and big windows, which open on to Piazza di Firenze and a side street. The parquet floor makes it all even cosier.

Wi-fi internet and emergency cell phone are included.

A little paradise

  • 5 of 5

Seeing the pictures of Ivy House when looking for an apartment in Rome, I immediately felt that this was a wonderful place. And indeed it is! It is perfect in every way, beautiful, spacious, light, very central, and all the books and other homely items give it a very comforting atmosphere. The only thing that made me a little nervous were the neighbours complaining about the noise our children were supposed to be making, but I honestly didn't think they were making such a racket. Maybe Ivy House should be advertised as being a place not suitable for families with young children; Thank you, everybody at From Home to Rome, you have been very helpful and nice!

Comfortable, spacious apartment in fantastic location

  • 5 of 5

We booked this apartment for one week in March, and from booking to departure, it was a fantastic experience. We were able to arrange for tours in Rome, Pompei, and Herculaneum, and secure pickup and drop off service to the airport, all through this apartment's management company. The apartment itself was pristine and had every amenity we could ask for. The beds were very comfortable, as was the living room. The location is perfect, located in the historic district, but not on a street overwhelmed with tourists. There is a fantastic restaurant right across the street (Obica).

Inolvidable semana en Roma

  • 5 of 5

This was an excellent location and very safe one also. Walking distance to a lot of attractions and great restaurants. the 2 bathrooms help with 4 people getting ready for the evening. Lot of Books!!! Emanuele Buffa was great to work with and very helpful for a first timer in Rome.

Perfect Location! Great Managers, just plain awful apartment.

  • 1 of 5

Ivy House is managed by very competent and friendly Emanuele and assistant Sara. They're helpful, knowledgeable, professional, superb hosts, assisting cheerfully with airport pickup, luggage, and offering tours- plus cooking at the apartment.

Perfect Location! Minutes from piazzas, good restaurants, and entertainment. Elevator for luggage.

Size about 1,200 square feet, high ceilings, large living room view to piazza below. Dining room had rickety fragile chairs, bedroom mattresses were just plain awful, flat, thin, uncomfortable. Beddin was fresh and clean. Towels were large, but rationed- 1 bath towel, 1 hand towel, 1 bath mat per person per week.

The apartment was terribly uncomfortable. Sofas were old & sagging. No living room tables except a 30” round table, filled edge-to-edge with old liquor bottles. Two giant, flat, dusty cushions in the living room were stacked with magazines. The living room is miserably dark at night. The large dining table was covered with avocado gray plastic; homely, dull, dark. The queen bedroom has 2 fragile light fixtures hanging precariously by the bed; with bulbs so dim it’s impossible to read a book.

The internet router/modem signal reaches about 15 feet; technically there's wi-fi; but we had to gather in the bedroom to use it. Manager Emanuele provided a cell phone for local calls – a very nice convenience and much appreciated.

The bathroom shower curtain is slimy at the bottom; tile has black moldy crevices, plywood cabinet drawers don't open, there is a tiny countertop for cosmetics. The tub room has two plywood boxes next to the new pedestal sink. Plywood. Really. My white slippers got grungy dirty walking on the wood floor.

Two tiny closets are hard to use; difficult to open; they don’t have handles or knobs; they're fingernail breakers.

The kitchen has a nice tiny Ikea dishwasher. The tiny washing machine works, but I was afraid the creaky door would fall off every time I opened it. Dishes were chipped, pans are disgusting dark brown char from not being cleaned. Racks and jars were covered with oily dust film, kitchen rug filthy. Mandatory recycling, but no bins provided. What a mess! The filthy ironing board cover was brown, ruins a white shirt. Furnishings are cheap, flimsy, old, distasteful, depressing. This apartment is hands down the worst vacation rental I have ever experienced. I have reviewed dozens of places and I usually love everything; but this one-- NO!

Owner's Response: Ciao Kate, I was sorry to learn that you found your stay in Ivy House so unsatisfying, and your review has prompted me to make some comments of my own. First of all, Ivy House - or for that matter, any vacation apartment in Rome - is not meant to be the same as a hotel built recently to international standards; the basic structure and the apartments are very different in concept. You seem to have expected a five-star hotel with hotel services. What we offered - and what we always mean to offer - with Ivy House is a beautiful, livable apartment in a stately 16th century building, well-located for a person who wants to experience our historic and beautiful city in a special way. We try to do everything possible to make our guests feel comfortable and at home, and any comment, be it positive or negative, made during our guests' residence we act on immediately. Unfortunately, you did not make all your needs known to us until we read your very negative review. We have reacted to your belated comments, too late for your benefit, I am sorry to say. For example, we have replaced the kitchen utensils, put in a new new iron and ironing board, replaced the shower curtain, and set up the refuse recycling to be more convenient. We have also expanded the range of the Wi-Fi. All this could have been done during your visit, so that you too could have enjoyed the changes that you called for in your review, had we been informed promptly. I would refer you to guest reviews received and published before your stay. They speak for themselves, i.e., the mattresses are new and clean, and although the sofas are not new, they are comfortable and well-made. Moreover, though this would not have affected you at all, the master bedroom, the dining room, and the living room are air-conditioned, i.e., the major part of the apartment. Again, I do regret that your Ivy House experience did not meet your expectations. A presto, Emanuele

Convenient location

  • 5 of 5

The listing description was accurate, and the photos did show exactly what the apartment looked like. I would recommend this place to my friends. It is within walking distance to many sightseeing areas and great restaurants. Giolitti was a great place to purchase gelato every night!! We appreciated that we were given a cell phone to use, and there was also an adapter for the electrical outlets. The rooms were spacious and allowed us to spread out (family of four). Was a bit noisy at night as the building was on a corner, but nothing intolerable. Bring your own guidebook as the one left for us had many pages ripped out. Wifi worked well, and kitchen was well-equipped. I would definitely stay here again.
