A well-appointed, beautifully-sited haven for Green Mtn play & deep relaxation.
This enchanting home offers a base for all the active delights the Green Mountains have to offer -- skiing, hiking, biking, fly-fishing, kayaking, tubing, swimming and more. And for those who just need a break, it's a house you're delighted to stay home in. This is a well-renovated, caringly decorated, and well-appointed home with stunning and peaceful spot for walks, dining al fresco, hammock time, or just taking in the view.
A delightful getaway for couples, but large (>1800 sq ft) and kid-friendly enough for 2 families -- the home has been renovated and outfitted with both in mind. We have worked to retain the wonderful character of this 1810 farmhouse -- the first home built in the "Hollows" -- while making some key updates for comfort and convenience.
A vibrant, comfortable living room hosts a piano, abundant books, games, puzzles, bluetooth speaker, and a turn table. Dust off your vinyl bring it North! The dining room table seats 8, with an additional table for overflow. The kitchen is newly updated and very well-equipped. One large bathroom downstairs and 2 smaller ones on the second floor. A delightful screen porch for morning coffee and afternoon naps opens onto a newly installed pea stone patio, embanked by perennial plantings. In the barn, a gameroom offers ping-pong, foosball, darts, giant jenga and more during the milder months.
The 3 acre property hosts a year-round stream (with little native trout), a small pond, abundant wildlife and nesting birds, paths that meander through wildflower meadows teeming with butterflies, and dazzling sunsets over the Green Mountains.
With Killington 30 minutes to the South, Sugarbush 25 minutes to the North, and Middlebury Snowbowl 20 minutes West, this is a prime location for downhill skiiers. And for cross-country skiiers and snowshoers, there is a beautiful loop trail just 1/2 mile away, and many trails in the area, including groomed trails in the Green Mountains, a short drive from the house.
The area is popular with cyclists of all stripes. A long-time road- and mountain-biking destination, it is also gaining a reputation for its "gravel" (dirt-road) biking. The nearby White River offers tubing adventures and pristine swimming holes. And hiking abounds, right from the door and from trails in the Green Mountain National Forest, just 10 minutes down the road.
Just down the road is charming Rochester village with its excellent food and cultural activities. And just down the road are key attractions like Warren Falls and the Long Trail, and towns to explore like Waitsfield and Middlebury.
Available for your use are:
* River tubes and electric pump for 6 people ().
* Assorted yard games, including croquet, cornhole/bean bag toss, and volleyball.
* Assorted cross-country skis.
* Bicycles suitable for ages 5-7 and 8-10, as well as assorted adult bikes (but this changes so check before booking if this is a priority).

We are parents of three kids -- two teens girls and their younger brother. Zig is a guitar-strumming, hammer-wielding, high school history teacher. Erika works on climate change, generating and communicating new science on how it may impact our lives and how we can respond. We both fell hard for the pastoral beauty of the Hollows, and have been in love with the area since Day 1. And we both love old New England homes and barns and take great joy in renovating and caring for this one. It's a pleasure to share it with others.

Fantastic Get Away From It All Vacation
My husband and I along with dear friends and their two boys spent 4 nights. While the weather was icy, snowy and cold during our stay, the comfort and warmth of this house really helped us have an amazing time. The house was spacious for everyone and was extremely well stocked with appliances and amenities. We made good use of the wood stove during our stay and even enjoyed introducing the young boys to vinyl records! We even saw a fox on one of our afternoons running on the far edge of the pond. The book selection in this house is amazing and the boys found the kids room well supplied with toys! Everyone enjoyed their stay and we would be happy to return again. Erika was extremely responsive and hospitable during our stay which made our experience even more personable.
Great house & great location!
We have stayed at this house numerous times and keep coming back! With old construction charm and new modern comforts, this property is super relaxing and inviting. We have stayed at other newer, bigger, fancier houses in Vermont but enjoy the quaint feel of this one the most.
Also this house is in a great location. It's far enough off the main highway that you feel secluded, but close to town for restaurants, groceries, etc. Tons of hiking and skiing trails in the area and close enough to Burlington for a day trip. Thanks again!
Two families shared the house (4 adults, 5 kids) and we had plenty of space. We loved our visit and hope to come back another time!
We found the house to be very comfy and surprisingly roomy for 8 people. The record collection was great as were the bathrooms and the kitchen stocked with all the tools you need. It is about half an hour from Sugarbush. It felt like a 'home' and so it was very easy to just settle in. We actually cooked more than we had planned because we just wanted to hang out there.
Exactly what we expected!
This home is a small family owned farm house that has been in the family for many many years. The house has all sorts of board games, records, CD’s and of course WiFi but no TV! This helps you disconnect from be real world and enjoy the time we’ll spent with friends. I’d recommend going to this house to anyone looking for a nice escape. The sunsets and Mountain View’s our the back window are breathtaking. The customer service from Erika was great! Not a bad thing to mention about this house!!!
Cozy house, great for families
Our family of five (two adults and three children aged 9, 8 and 6) had a fantastic week at this house. Despite the snow and cold weather, we were very warm inside. The house is really thoughtfully equipped with candles, a great kitchen, a phenomenal collection of books, games, records, CDs and DVDs - and much to our delight, the children's room was fantastically outfitted. We appreciated the access to the snow related equipment in the barn - the children had great fun with the sleds and snowshoes. Our host Erika was easy to communicate with, and made us feel incredibly welcome. We enjoyed exploring this area of Vermont - lots of great hikes on nearby route 125, and the local bookstore/bakery is terrific.
