About the property

4 bedroom, 2 baths less than 5 minutes from Gore Mountain

The Severance House is approximately two miles from the entrance to Gore Mountain Ski Area and less than 30 minutes from many of the resorts, beaches and town of Lake George. This historic Adirondack home sits on 95 acres of woodlands and open fields. The Severance House offers easy access to hiking, cross-country skiing, and snowshoeing by simply stepping out the back door. Additionally, the location of the Severance House provides convenient access to endless recreational opportunities (hiking, skiing, biking, swimming, rafting, canoeing, kayaking, motor boating, etc) within the Southern Adirondacks.

There are four bedrooms in the Severance House, all of which are located on the second floor. Each bedroom has been carefully arranged to provide the comforts of home with plenty of drawer and closet space. Bedroom one has an antique iron bed that will accommodate one person. Bedroom two has a king size bed, bedroom three has a queen size bed, and bedroom four has a new set of bunk beds that the kids will surely love! The new leather queen sofa sleeper, with a new high density upgraded mattress, in the living room will provide additional sleeping accommodations. As well, we have just purchased a new queen sofa sleeper for the family room, with an upgraded mattress, that can serve as another bedroom, conveniently located next to the downstairs bathroom.

There are two full baths in the Severance, one is on the second floor and the other is on the first floor adjacent to the family room. The over sized second floor bathroom has a tub-shower, marble accents and a tile floor. The bathroom on the first floor has a tiled shower and Jacuzzi jetted whirlpool tub- ideal after a long day on the slopes!

The living room is an Adirondack masterpiece. The stone fireplace found in this room is eight feet in width and is bordered by two 24-foot beams that run the length of the living room. The room is furnished with a TV, VCR, DVD player, and a stereo system that includes an AM/FM radio, cassette recorder, and CD player. This room will surely provide a warm and cozy atmosphere on those chilly Adirondack winter evenings.

There is an open feel to this home as you walk from the living room to the dining room and on to the classic knotty pine kitchen. Guests can easily enjoy a family meal at the large oak dining room table (seats 10 comfortably) or simply pull up a stool to the island bar that sits between the dining room and kitchen. The kitchen has a gas stove top and is well stocked with many cooking pans, dishes, glassware, and utensils as well as a microwave, toaster oven, crock-pot, cappuccino machine, and coffee grinder.

Off the kitchen is the family room. This is a favorite spot for adults and kids alike. There is a brick fireplace in this room as well as an inviting bar for those apres ski evenings. The room is furnished with a 42-inch wide screen TV, DVD player and board games. The large bay window affords a beautiful view of the surrounding acreage, ideal for sledding and snowshoeing. There are sleds and snowshoes available for use by our guests. As you step out the back door from the family room, you will find an inviting brick patio complete with a gas grill, a large picnic table, and a stone fireplace that is perfect for those cool summer and fall evenings.

The Severance House is a historic home that has been recognized by the North Creek Historic Society. Its close proximity to Gore Mountain Ski Area, Garnet Hill Cross Country Ski Area, Loon Lake, Lake George, and the Hudson River make it a perfect year round vacation spot. This home is a welcoming retreat for all outdoor enthusiasts and serves as a perfect getaway for those who simply enjoy the quiet and solitude of the Southern Adirondacks.

Why Marta Kolman chose Adirondacks

Easy access to Gore Mountain (less than 5 minutes) and the town of North Creek. Less than 30 minutes to Lake George Village. Set in the heart of the Adirondacks which allows for countless hiking, biking, cross country skiing and snow shoeing opportunities.

What makes this farmhouse unique

Our home sits on almost 100 acres. Hike, snow shoe or ski out the back door. The hill in the back is great for sledding! The 6 person covered out door hot tub is soothing year round. The newly re-pointed stone outdoor fireplace is a favorite place to gather and is perfect for roasting marshmallow for s'mores. The star gazing is awesome due to the lack of any light pollution.

History Buffs dream house

  • 4 of 5

My wife and I enjoyed a short holiday in August, 2016 at this property with our two children, their spouses, our five grandchildren and two dogs. A great time was had by all, although the accommodation might not be to everyone’s taste. The farm house is a historically designated property, built in 1891. It has been extensively renovated but still has small bedrooms, no central air conditioning and no dishwasher. These negatives are balanced by all the other modern conveniences which one has come to expect in rental properties, including a hot tub and large jacuzzi in one of the two bathrooms. A large well equipped kitchen features the best collection of spices we have ever encountered in a VRBO rental. Huge lot, nice view and a convenient location on a major highway.

History buffs like myself and my wife will be delighted. The decorating can best be described as hugely eclectic, with much to exclaim over. The owner has done a great job of posting small framed signs throughout explaining things like how to work the TV (there are two of them) and what to do with the recycling.

Would we return? Absolutely.

Owner's Response: Our home is a true Adirondack master piece, it's wonderful to know how much the historic aspect of it pleased and excited you. As you pointed out, we have added the modern amenities many travelers enjoy while preserving the true character of the home. One thing to note, our home is hardly on a major highway. The name of our road is "Peaceful Valley Road", which helps to describe the setting of our beloved Adirondack home, peaceful.

very enjoyable vacation

  • 5 of 5

We loved every minute of the of the house. the kitchen was well equipped and the house had all the amenities to make this vacation a wonderful stay for us. The hot tub was a beauty we used it everyday and was a great way to unwind after whitewater rafting or a trek. the surrounding area is peaceful and private and some decent restaurants closely. lake george is about 40 minutes away. The rooms were very clean and comfortable. The family room is the best part of the house where we spent time singing and catching up with our family and friends.

lots of good memories. Thanks Marta

A great find in a great location

  • 5 of 5

We really enjoyed staying here during a camp visiting weekend. The house was immaculate, spacious and well-appointed. My baseball-starved Dad was ecstatic he could watch multiple games that were available on the satellite TV. Marta was a great host. We especially appreciated her leaving the ingredients for s'mores. Amazingly, my parents had never made them before. We fixed that. Next time we are in the area we would happily return.

Owner's Response: Thank you Steve for the nice review! And who doesn't like s'mores :-) Our outdoor fireplace, new repointed, is the perfect place to roast marshmallows. I look forward to your return!

The Perfect Home for Exploring the Adirondacks!

  • 5 of 5

After traveling through the Adirondacks 30 years ago & never forgetting the beauty of this area, my sister & I finally had an opportunity to return. Marta's house was exactly what we were looking for. It is in a great location for exploring the Adirondacks ( Marta was nice enough to provide us with some excellent hiking trail suggestions). And it is convenient having the town of North Creek is 5 minutes away for groceries, etc.

The house is rustic but spacious, clean, and well-stocked. The beds are very comfortable and, unlike some rental homes, there were plenty of towels. We especially loved the great outdoor space the house offered. In fact, we never took advantage of the restaurants in North Creek because it was so much fun to cook at home. It was such a delight to eat outside and take in the beauty & serenity of this property. Although we used the grill, we never did use the outdoor fireplace or the hot tub. Next time!

Thank you, Marta! I hope that we will be able to stay at your wonderful home again.
