I am a farmers wife originally from Co. Kerry. My Husband Michael is still farming and a very active horse man, he is responsible for all the beautiful stone walls we have around our property. The self catering cottage is the original farm house where my husband grew up and has been in the family for over 400 years.
I have 4 grown up children who still help out from time to time with my guests and around the farm. We have 2 dogs who are very much part of the family, they are buttons our little terrier and dfor our black Labrador, they are always the first to welcome you when you arrive.
Cahergal Farmhouse is located in Newmarket-on-Fergus, just 5 miles from Shannon International Airport, 4 miles from Bunratty Folk Village and Banqueting Castle and 2 miles from Dromoland Castle and Golf Club, providing an excellent alternative place to stay if attending weddings or functions in this area.
The facilities available to the guests on the farm ensure a holiday packed with fun for all ages and preference. These include horse riding with qualified instructors, farm walks, historical sites, a full sized tennis court and experiencing farm life on our mixed farming enterprise.
I recently visited Ireland with my wife and 2 children (6 and 8). We decided to stay at the Cahregal farmhouse for 3 nights of our trip. The owners are both very nice and gave us a tour of the farm, which my kids loved. The kids fed the hens, watched a horse with a swollen knee be attended to, and helped herd the cows into an adjoining field. My children also adored Buttons, the owners' small dog.
The self catering house we stayed in was very spacious and comfortable. The kitchen was well equipped. There is a EuroSpar supermarket about a 5 minute drive in Newmarket on Fergus, which we used to pick up some of the basics. The location is convenient to Bunratty Castle, the Cliffs of Moher, as well as the Burren.
Cahegral Farmhouse is a delightful place to stay. We were on a driving holiday in the UK & Ireland and stayed here for 4 nights. We were 6 adults (two families). Each of the 4 bedrooms at the farmhouse are large and well appointed. The kitchen and living areas are modern and well equipped.
The property owners, Noreen and Michael were wonderful hosts. Noreen baked bread, scones and on the last night a lovely Apple Pie. Michael took my daughter for a great horse ride through the paddocks around the sheep and cows.
We used this accommodation to make day trips to the west and south west of Ireland. It is close to the motorway and within a mile or so of the village where we were able to buy essentials.
Thanks you Noreen, Michael and son James. We definitely recommend the property to anyone looking for a quality and welcoming experience. We would have liked to have stayed longer.

Noreen and Michael were amazing hosts. They greeted us with open arms and warm bread and fresh scones! Michael gave us an amazing tour of the farm while entertaining us with wonderful stories of his youth. We even almost got to see the birth of a calf! We were treated as family. The self catering cottage was comfortable and perfect for our needs. It was situated perfectly for sightseeing Bunratty, Cliffs of Moher, The Burren and music in Doolin. If ever in the area again we will definitely return to Cahergal Farmhouse.
My three friends and I had a great time Cahergal Farmhouse! Noreen and Michael are lovely people and welcomed us to their home with fresh scones and bread! They gave us some fresh eggs from their hens and we even got a personalized tour of the farm. Good location for visiting Bunratty Castle and Folk Park, the Cliffs of Moher, and Lough Gur. I subtracted one star because we had an issue with the heating system (which unfortunately happened over the weekend so they couldn't get someone in to fix it until Monday), but Noreen and Michael worked hard to make sure we had enough wood and coal for the stove until the problem was fixed.
My family and I had the most enjoyable time possible during our stay at Cahergal Farm. Noreen and Michael were incredible hosts as we felt part of their extended family while there. The quite and spacious farmhouse was perfect accommodations for me and my family (5 in total). Words can hardly express my reflection of gratitude for our time spent there. Time slows down and the pace allows for a spaciousness of thought, reflection and celebration of life. As the honored Celtic philosopher poet John O'Donahue (from The Burren region, not far away) puts it "you must hold something beautiful in your heart, for the times when life calls you to a new threshold." One beautiful place that I hold is the lush lands, fertile meadows and open hearts of Cahergal Farm. Thank you to Noreen and Michael for opening your home and your land up to our family.
This big farm house worked great for our large group. It was nice to have most of the bedrooms with their own bathrooms. The owners had homemade bread and jam ready for us upon our arrival. The home was clean, well kept, and had free wifi. We used the home as a base for day trips to the surrounding countryside. The owners were always close by for answering questions and friendly conversation. The farm setting was very refreshing for us city dwellers. We would definitely recommend this house to family and friends.
