“Grace Hideaway is a wonderful lodging. The host has provided for comfort in every way. The hikes she recommended were incredible. The bed was comfortable. It cottage was clean and well maintained. The property is close enough to drive to the snow. We had joyful adventures and also time to relax and unwind. We hope to have the opportunity to stay there again. ”
"We had a wonderful time. We visited on our anniversary. It was a great place to get away and enjoy some peace and quiet. We saw lots of wildlife including deer and wild turkeys. Everything was really nice and clean. We visited Murphys and did some local wine tasting. We enjoyed meeting the horse! We called him "bean" the whole time we were there after he took a sip of my coffee and made a really funny face. We found out when we left that his name is really Star. Margaret was a great host!
The cottage was the perfect getaway for our family; quiet, peaceful, and very relaxing. Our two children [8 years old] loved exploring the grounds, throwing a football around, and flying a kite in the field. It was the perfect space for the four of us and our large dog.
The cottage was adorable, and Margaret's cookies and company just made the trip. It was a great getaway. Really enjoyed seeing all the stars at night. Only wish the trip could have been longer
July 4th weekend, my husband, teenage son, and I had a great time at this cottage. This was perfect for a relaxing family getaway. Margaret was very responsive and helpful. She was happy to give us accommodations at the last minute at budget prices, when everyone else was booked solid. The 217 acre property is so huge that our car directional finder told us to turn off way before the entrance. There were famous scriptures to guide us up the half mile gravel drive.
The cottage has lots of elbow room, roughly 1000sf. The neighboring cottage dwellers were all so very quiet. With 106 degrees outside, we cranked up the swamp cooler and fans on high to beat the heat. We are light sleepers and prefer a firm bed. The fans made ideal white noise to help lull us to sleep, so I did not need my sound machines. And the queen bed was the perfect firmness for us. I have allergies to everything; however, I stayed healthy without any allergy flare-ups, due to the cleanliness of the cottage.
The TV and Computer stayed off while we enjoyed the vacation. Our son enjoyed taking his bike on the gravel roads and paths. He made fast-friends with Star the horse and the tabby cat. We found the historic Indian grinding holes on the property. We grilled delicious steaks on the BBQ. Margaret warned us that the lake was low due to the drought, but we brought our canoe anyway, just in case. The cottage location was ideal, with so many things to do within easy reach. Margaret provided brochures of all the local sites. During our visit, we managed to fit 2 attractions per day. Each day, we returned from our explorations, hot and exhausted, to a cool cottage, refreshing shower, and a massage on the old fashion vibrator lazy boy. The kitchen was stocked with everything we needed to make our meals, including good steak knives (which is a very rare thing to find). After supper, the family would choose the next day’s activities from the pile of choices.
We still have lots more exploring to do in the area. And we definitely plan to make this our ‘home-base’ next time we visit.
Thank you Margaret for making me feel so welcome (I was greeted with a smoothie from the fresh fruit on the property & home made cookies!). Every morning the sun rise made me go out & walk your beautiful property & see all the abundant wildlife around- wild turkeys, beautiful horse, birds, rabbits...I was able to sit & appreciate life in many of your sitting areas, enjoying the magnificant views- especially sunset. So much to explore just minutes away with Natural Bridges (easy hike & a refreshing swim thru a cave!), Moaning Cavern, Murpheys, & Mercer Cavern...not to mention Calaveres Big Trees. The cottage was clean & very comfortable (fresh historic figs right outside my door) & the driveway was very easy. Im glad I didnt stay in town so I could experience nature at its finest here! I felt completely safe here by myself & I cant wait to visit in the spring! This is a photographers dream up here! Thank you again Margaret!!
My husband and I recently stayed at this cabin over the Fourth of July weekend. Margaret is a wonderful person and extremely friendly (also very accommodating), but we weren't impressed with the cabin. The photos she has on the website are accurate; however the house must not have been rented for a while before we came because the bathroom toiletries smelled a bit musty and old. Given, it was 106 degrees outside when we arrived so it could have been the heat.. But we did pay a refundable deposit so we expected fresh linen. The swamp cooler did not work very well and the Wifi is TERRIBLE. My husband and I both have Verizon service and we did not have any phone or internet connection until we got into Murphys, which is probably a 20 minute drive from the cabin. The bed is very uncomfortable and the swamp cooler is SO loud. Unfortunately it is in the room with the only TV in the house so you have to blast the TV to hear it. The price point is fair and Margaret is a good person but we had higher expectations and they were not met. We wouldn't stay here again but maybe this type of cabin just isn't for us. The cabin is off the beaten path down some gravel driveways and up some small hills. I was very surprised about this, since my husband and I brought our small car and weren't prepared to drive on such rough terrain. We decided to leave a night early because we found broken beer bottles off to the side of the back deck and we'd had about enough. I wouldn't recommend this for children, as there truly is nothing to do. It is far from town and there is no cable. Movies will become their best friend! I wish Margaret great success in renting the cabin in the future. Next time the hubby and I will stay closer to town.
