Amazing vacation at Upper Camelot over the New Year's break
Our family of five had an amazing vacation at Upper Camelot over the New Year's break.
Upper Camelot is right on Hastings Beach. Mom and Dad had the master bedroom facing the ocean. Large king size bed and plenty of closet space. We went to sleep and woke up to the sound of the waves breaking onto the beach. The kids slept in the large second bedroom - 3 single beds and plenty of space. They had some nuisance street noise, especially the sound of the taxi horns playing "La Cucuracha".
Two bathrooms with showers. Large kitchen with all the appliances, pots and pans, dishes, cutlery, dining table. Two sofas in the living room area.
We had breakfasts and enjoyed the sunsets on the veranda overlooking the beach. A few steps down and we were on the beach, from where we could also enjoy the sunrise. The beach is clean, soft golden sand and not crowded. Beach chairs and towels are provided. The water is fairly calm even for the little ones. A few steps away starts the 2 km boardwalk along the water towards Accra Beach, with joggers and walkers in the morning, and strolling the rest of the day and evening, though some spots are not well lit at night.
Camelot is within walking distance to convenience stores, shopping, restaurants and several other beaches. And a short taxi ride to more beaches and restaurants. We enjoyed the sun and water at a different beach each day - our favourite was Accra Beach. And we enjoyed dinner at a different restaurant each evening, though you need to make reservations. Our favourite for lunch was Cuzz's Fishstand and Salt Cafe our favourite for dinner.
To recap, Upper Camelot was perfect for our one week stay in Barbados. Awesome location right on the beach. Comfortable and enjoyable apartment. Walking distance to shopping and restaurants. Tina, the property manager, answered all our questions promptly and made reservations for our Old Night's dinner, and arranged for pick up at the airport and a car hire for 2 days.
We will stay again at Upper Camelot next time in Barbados.
We spent two wonderful weeks at Upper Camelot. The location was great with multiple restaurants and markets close by and the beach front views were incredible. The only downside was that the apartment is close the the road and the taxis constantly beep their loud horns starting very early in the morning, so for light sleepers I would recommend bringing ear plugs. Everything else was fantastic.
Beautiful and comfortable with a peaceful section of beach.
I enjoyed my stay a great deal. Everything went smoothly and the property manager was very easy to work with. I would definitely return to this location! As advertised!
A Beautiful Gem in Barbados
This home is absolutely magical. It is 2 stories with 2 absolutely gorgeous balconies, a very large kitchen, and very tall ceilings in the bedrooms. The view, the space, the location and the service were stunning. I hope to be lucky enough to stay here again. Thank you SO much!
Absolutely wonderful, spacious apartment!!
This is a perfect property in every sense of word: location, decor, balcony views, amenities. It's within walking distance of great restaurants and shopping. My husband and I were just thrilled with the place and highly recommend it to anyone looking for a break from winter weather. In terms of pricing, it's an incredible bargain!
Our home away from home!
Camelot House - Lower Camelot
My husband and I have stayed at Camelot house six years in a row, and can't imagine staying anywhere else when we travel to Barbados each winter.
The location cannot be beat - it is right off the boardwalk on the south coast, which allows us to enjoy our morning walk/run right outside our door. Everything is within walking distance - great restaurants, shopping, groceries, and anywhere else you may wish to go is accessible by the local ZR vans (look for the white vans with the burgundy stripe on the side - listen for their wide variety of horn signals as well!) or by blue or yellow buses, which provide safe and efficient travel across the island for $1 US each way. You don't need a car - although having said that, we finally summoned up the courage to rent a car and will definitely do so in the future again, even for a few days, it's well worth it to have a car to get to some of the more out of the way spots - such as Little Bay or St. Nicholas Abbey.
Beaches are plentiful and varied - if you have young children, the shallow pools in front of Camelot House are perfect, and a little farther in is a deeper 'swimming pool', which is the perfect size with calm water, backed and surrounded by a rock reef. At the end of the boardwalk to the left of Camelot is Accra Beach which has more vigorous waves. Going to the right leads to Coconut Court, where you can spend the day lounging under the delightful span of coconut palms, and enjoy their wonderful rum punch and two extremely reasonably priced happy hours at their beach bar.
Lower Camelot has the most expansive and fabulous deck which we absolutely adore. The first time we rented this place, we spent the majority of our time simply savouring the view and stayed on the deck a good portion of the day. After six times, we still enjoy the view and the exotic tree which has grown around and become a staple feature of the deck, with its welcoming and necessary shade particularly in the afternoon.
There is comfortable furniture in the living area, cable TV and movies, which we watch in the evenings. The kitchen doesn't have an oven, which is the one thing we desperately miss. The tiny toaster style oven takes a lot longer to cook food in, but at least there is some type of an oven as I love to cook my fresh fish in an oven.
The king size bed is firm and very comfortable, and also has a mosquito net overtop in case you wish to leave the windows open at night. The air con
Hastings is part of the Historic Garrison Area of Barbados. It is the location of the Old Colonial Officers Quarters and Army Hospital, (now Pavilion Court) It is also the beach entrance to the new Boardwalk. The Savannah consists of the Main Guard, a beautiful Victorian building complete with a large collection of Old Cannons, (put together by Major Mike Hartland), the Barbados Turf Club (Horse Racing), the Museum, and a vast open area of sports grounds for Rugby, Football, Cricket and Basketball all surrounded by walking and running tracks
Other Activities: Great for Wave Surfing in the Winter Months and located across from the Barbados Fertility Centre
