Absolutely Amazing
We celebrated our 2nd wedding anniversary at Phyllis and Melissa’s adorable cottage. It was perfectly secluded and had everything we needed and more. They left us goodies for our pooch, and breakfast items and pizza...we hardly left as we had everything we needed!! Phyllis even greeted us with fresh tomatoes; so kind and thoughtful. And the place was so wonderful that we planned on exploring breweries etc...but loved our little getaway so much we stayed in much of the time😊 We did hike the nearby peaks of otter cascades trail, (about a 30 min drive) and ate dinner at Table 50 in nearby Roanoke, which was amazing. We also enjoyed stargazing by the fire. Thank you ladies for a wonderful weekend. Zulu, Pierre and I will be back🥰
Our Own Vineyard.
The cabin was roomy and lovely. Melissa and Phyllis showed great attention to detail providing firewood, coffee, eggs, and snacks. There was even a dog bed and treats provided for our pup, Lulu.
We enjoyed the views of the mountains and the vineyard on the property. We ate all our meals on the well-furnished patio. Lulu loved hiking on the trails on the property and playing fetch in the fenced-in vineyard. We enjoyed the atmosphere of being away from it all while only being thirty minutes from downtown Roanoke. We enjoyed our vacation and hope to return to this cabin again!
One of the best VRBO experiences we've had
My wife and I were looking for a dog-friendly property near Roanoke for the weekend, and I stumbled upon Melissa and Phyllis' cabin. Based on the photos and other reviews, I thought it looked like a good bet, but our actual stay there was even better than I had hoped for. The cabin itself was cozy, clean and comfortable, and the property itself was very quiet and secluded with lots of trees and views of the nearby mountains, so we had our privacy even with the owners living close by. Our dog enjoyed being able to prance around the fenced-in vineyard next to the cabin, and we enjoyed a night looking out at the stars on the Adirondack chairs next to the fire pit. Melissa and Phyllis made us feel very welcome when we got there, they'd even left some Milkbones for our dog when we arrived. It was very easy communicating wth Melissa beforehand, so everything was ready to go for our visit. Even though we were out in the country, we were only a 30 minute car ride to Roanoke. All in all, we really enjoyed our stay there.
Owners have outdone themselves! Amazing!
This was our first vrbo/airbnb type experience and I'm not sure we'll ever find something that will compare! This cabin goes above and beyond in all aspects. The attention to detail, cleanliness, modern-yet-rustic atmosphere - all of it was just amazing! At last minute we decided to ask if we could bring our two dogs (who were originally going to stay with a pet-sitter). Melissa was very welcoming to our fur-babies! On top of being awe-struck with the location, property and cabin, we found beautiful little "extras"! A pizza was in the freezer as we with a note "in case you're hungry upon arrival and need to relax", breakfast items in the fridge for the morning, an excellent map of the property and on top of those...Milk-bones for our pups, a dog bed, dog linens, a bowl on the back porch! We were just overwhelmed at the thought and effort put in to every little detail. The description of this property doesn't talk about the pond, the well-kept walking paths cut throughout the property, or the ability to walk through the vineyards - all this was just added bonuses for my husband and I! We took walks, played in the creek with our dogs, went fishing and only left the property once for a few groceries. We absolutely loved this and will be making it a tradition! Along with all of this, Melissa and Phyllis were only a phone call or text away! There is absolutely nothing we could suggest to make this a better experience! This was already above and beyond our expectations! With 3 kids, full time jobs, and "life" as hectic as it is - my husband and I needed this getaway and it was absolutely perfect!
Short respite
Beautiful, secluded little cabin. The perfect place to unwind and just get away from the daily grind. Astounded, though, upon entering the cabin, how large it actually is on the inside. I've had apartments smaller than this cabin! Beautifully decorated, and very cozy. We enjoyed sitting by the outside fire pit one evening, relaxing and watching the stars. Not to mention sitting on the covered deck area during an afternoon down pour/thunderstorm. Thanks so much, Melissa and Phyliss, for your wonderful hospitality.
So much more....
It was so much more than we hoped for. A very beautiful, peaceful, clean and welcoming property. If you like privacy, and want to enjoy some quiet/down time, this is the place you should visit. A pleasant walk around the vineyard, a stroll to the pond as the sun was going down together made a nice evening. Maybe a quiet morning on the porch with your favorite coffee or juice? You can do that, too. Melissa is the best.....the cabin was stocked with some food items that were perfectly chosen. We arrived after dark and needed some help with directions...she was "Johnny on the spot" for a quick rescue. That was so greatly appreciated. Needless to say it helped us out tremendously and began our few days there very much on the "right note".
Shady Grove sets the bar very high for other VRBO properties. It will be the one we measure others against. I could continue but please let me summarize - this is the place to recover, relax, rest, read, walk, watch the lightening bugs, rabbits, deer, grill a steak - you get the picture. THIS IS THE PLACE.
