About Chandy Gaub

Elaine and Arthur Jack Sackville-West IIII purchased the land in 1997. Jack is a retired Air Force engineer and an architect. He and Elaine designed both buildings. In 1999 they moved from their lake home and began building. BJ&R & Ray Bonney built the guesthouse weather tight while Elaine and Jack built the barn as storage for their household goods. While living in their travel trailer, they finished the guesthouse and shop. In 2001 Ray built the house weather tight. This time the used some subcontractors, but Jack designed and built the kitchen and oak cabinet and workstation to Elaine's specifications. Elaine created the stained glass. Together they built and enjoyed their home.

In 2004 they began the Knole Guesthouse Vacation Rental which operated until the summer of 2011. At this time they decided to downsize and move closer to family and friends and travel as much as possible. They named their home Knole House and the Guesthouse stayed a Knole Guesthouse.

The original Knole House is an English country house in the town of Seven Oaks in west Kent England. It is reputed to be a calendar house, having 365 rooms, 52 staircases, 12 entrances and 7 courtyards. The house was built between 1456 and 1486 and owned by King Henry VIII in 1538. During the reign of Queen Elizabeth I, in 1566 it came into the possession of her cousin Thomas Sackville, 1st Earl of Dorset, whose descendants the Earl and Dukes of Dorset and Barons Sackville have lived there since 1603. Today the house is in the care of the National Trust but the Lord Sackville-West family still considers more than half the house as their home and they still own the gardens and surrounding estate. The house was pictured in the film, 'The Other Boleyn Girl'. In our entry hall is a picture of Knole House and brass rubbing of Henry VIII and Anne Boleyn done by Elaine and Jack during their visit to England and Knole House in 1983 where they met Lord and Lady Sackville-West.

Reviewer Comments:

The house was nice. No one told us the exterior would be under construction. Most of the plugs in the kitchen did not work. The hide a bed is like a torture rack. Location was good. Overall house was nice but it needs a bit of sprucing up and some mattresses replaced.

Owner's Response: Thank you for your review The home is getting brand new siding but it was never under construction during guest stays. As of today (Sept 18th, 2016) we are 90% complete, and hope to finish all the siding in the next few weeks. Had we been notified about anything not working properly we would have remedied the issue immediately. The GFI switch on the outlets has been pushed and everything is in working order. The owner is working on a new hide-a-bed. We will update the website as soon as we have found something more comfortable than what is there now. Please stay tuned! Thank You Chandy, Bloomer Estates Manager

Reviewer Comments:

Pros: Location! This is a quiet and peaceful spot. Deer roam the tall grass and are easily spotted. Very quiet area and we were not bothered at all. Kitchen is well stocked with everything you would need. We were very satisfied with the kitchen and this is the one thing that is perfect. Bedrooms are good sized and one of them has very large closet space. Bathroom is large with small sitting/changing area and a washer and dryer. Bathroom is stocked well. Plenty of towels, soap, shampoo and laundry soap. Access to and from the beach was perfect. Path was not marked well because signs are laying n ground.Leads to an area on the beach that was almost always clear of other people. Living room closet was stocked with kites and other useful items for the kids. Very thoughtful. Cons: Property is showing its age. The exterior appears to be under construction as half of the house is missing siding and was exposed with just tar paper. the replacement siding was just laying in the yard along with equipment. The living room furniture is past its prime. Recliner is missing a handle and will not recline and the couch/bed was pretty uncomfortable. The gas grill had a rusted and falling apart tank connected. There was a spare tank but I did not trust the condition of the grill to use. It needs a cover of some sort. The wifi appears to be connected from the main house. We were unable to get reliable wifi service in the guest house and set up our own hotspots for wifi service. This was a disappointment. tldr: I wanted to really love this place but it I am split with how I feel. I felt that for the price, I would have expected the condition to represent the photos. Wish we'd know about the construction ahead of time. We loved the location and privacy but this property needs some TLC before we would consider renting again.

Owner's Response: Thank you for your review, This is a wonderful home with a perfect short path to the beach, we are adding new siding to improve the beauty of the home, there is no construction being done during occupancy as to not disturb the guests. We apologize for a less than perfect propane tank however the BBQ is brand new for the summer and the recliner has been replaced with 2 brand new chairs. Thank you again for visiting our wonderfully stocked, quiet, peaceful, beautiful home. Chandy, Bloomer Estates Management

Reviewer Comments:

The home looked as if it was under construction, siding was off and not pictured as seen. I called twice because the lockbox door was difficult and I could not get it back on and no response from the management team, even acknowledging that the message was received.

Reviewer Comments:

I and my family really enjoyed the house. It is very well stocked with many thoughtful items. A beautiful space. A couple of minor notes - the recliner doesn't recline and looks a little dingy; certainly past its prime - the sofa has small tears around the back cushions; the hide away sofa was very hard to get out and not comfortable - several window shades would not roll back up once pulled down

Lovely homey experience. Nicely appointed although the property is showing wear and exterior cleanliness seems to have slipped. The beds aren't the most comfortable but work for a short stay. The washer/dryer availability is fab. We love the location and will return.
