June 2016 update: Bonito Cottage is no longer available for vacation rentals as we have moved into the cottage. However - we are building a new self-contained 1-bedroom suite above the garage that will be available on VRBO in the fall of 2016. The suite will have the same spectacular sunset views and a private deck overlooking the ocean. Thanks for your interest and to all who have stayed at Bonito Cottage over the last several years. Please check back in the spring for updates on availability. Looking forward to hearing from you then!
We love to spend time outdoors - cycling, kayaking, skiing and backcountry camping. We both work as environmental consultants and travel throughout western Canada - but we love to come home to Nanoose Bay. We choose Nanoose Bay over 10 years ago because this place has it all! The Fairwinds trails are fantastic and the beaches are beautiful.
Cathy Orban purchased this cottage in 2012
Bonito Cres is one of the few streets in the area that has sunset views in the warm months. We wanted a cozy and private waterfront home with panoramic views that would be a place to unwind and listen to the wind and water. We also wanted to be able to launch our kayaks close to home. It took a few years - but we finally found it!
Privacy - Sunset Views - Sunlight all Day - Hypnotic Sounds of Wind & Waves - Eagles & Kingfishers - Seals in the Bay - A Sleeping Cabana!
Wonderful location, great views, watching Eagles and seals. Comfortable, well equipped home in a quiet location yet close to restaurants and shops (15 minutes). Owners are very friendly and accommodating. Our second visit here and hope to have many more!
My wife and I stayed at Bonito for a week in the late summer. We were instantly in love with the view! The sunsets are amazing here. The house is nice, seemed a little on the older side, but well kept and clean. The kitchen was fully stocked and everything worked well. Outside the house is also well kept, upper and lower decks are great to sit and listen to the nature all around. The location is also a nice thing if you like quiet. It's about 15 minutes to Parksville if you're looking to get out and about in town. The Rocking Horse Pub is about 5 minutes and is worth checking out for dinner. There's also all kinds of trails nearby with hiking and lakes, tons of deer in the area. The only bad part of the house was that the stairs down to the water were out of service, but you could access the water easy enough with a trail at the neighbors house. We kayaked from the nearby Schooner Cove Marina, there's all kinds of little islands to explore, with lots of seals and eagles to observe, we also got lucky and encountered a pod of Orca whales near Yeo Island! The owner was very helpful with giving info about the area, easy to work with, and thankfully allows dogs! I'd stay again.
Enjoyed beautiful sunsets on the deck after leisurely days that included walking and cycling the many roads and trails in the Nanoose and Parksville area. Home and property are as described and well maintained. Perfect place to stay and enjoy or use as home base for fishing, kayaking, or exploring the Island.
We had a fantastic stay here. Nanoose Bay is in our opinion the best area to vacation in, central to most everything there is to do and see. The owners of this property are very helpful and easy to work with. We definitely will repeat our stay here in years to come.
If you are looking for great views of the ocean this is the place , plus very peaceful and quiet, great getaway for someone who wants some quality down time .
