A beautiful retreat. Reasonably close to the city, far enough away to escape. Wonderful scenery and so much to do. Our three children enjoyed running around the property - getting close to the cattle and their babies, riding horseback, swimming in the pool. The caretaker was fantastic. The home itself full of character and charm. I would love to live here and we would love to come back someday. Highly recommend!
The Hacienda is located on an idyllic place in the middle of the country side, but yet, close enough to the capital if you miss the hassle and bustle. This place inspires relaxation and tranquillity. All you see around you is the horizon and beautiful prairies. It really hit the spot for us as we needed to decompress. I recommend this place for tranquillity and recharge 100%.
We loved our stay at this lovely well decorated estancia, in the green countryside of the Uruguay, we watched magical sunsets and bright stars in the night skies sitting out by the swimming pool and patio made it the perfect get away, very romantic, clean, perfect for couples, writers, artists, or those who like to reconnect with nature and have a relaxing time in a safe place to unwind, the hostess/cook/butler is very talented and resourceful, she took oustanding care of us we really hated that we had to leave this little peice of paradise in Uruguay olive and grape country. we give it a 6 stars.... rating:) The owner was wonderful and quick to respond to our last minute reservation :) we LOVE IT & know that you will too!
No hay palabras, que puedan describir la paz, la brisa, la vista y el servicio de “Casa de Los Olivos”.
In planning our first trip to Uruguay, we decided to explore Montevideo for several days and then move out of the city to visit the countryside. “Casa de los Olivos” was an excellent choice. With a working farm surrounding the house, there are views of pastures and olive trees to the horizon. The facilities are first rate and the service provided was excellent.
It is located about a 40 minute drive northeast of the airport. The location permitted us to make easy day trips to Punta del Este and Piriapolis and get back “home” in time for a dip in the pool and cocktails. The family oriented beach and restaurants of Atlantida are less than a 30 minute drive.
What we enjoyed most was spending a couple of afternoons just enjoying the patio, pool, and parilla. Jaqueline was a marvelous hostess.
On an earlier trip I expored Buenos Aires and did the day ferry to Colonia. Decided I wanted a central location where I could be based to explore more of Colonia, Montevideo, Punta del Este and choose the Casa Olivos based on recommendations from US friends who stayed there.
Turned out to be a perfect choice and it far surpassed any expectation I had about
The ranch is far more beautiful than any photos can demonstrate. It is a large villa
with many outbuildings - but is cozy enough that 2 can enjoy. The 6 main rooms in the villa are extraordinary in decoration and amenities. Since there were only 2 of us - I only saw the outbuildings. It is kind of hard to describe - all of the plantings and colors resemble Provence. The place was filled with hundreds of books - always a plus for us.
Jaqueline picked us up at the MVD airport and served as our chef and guide to the area. She does her job very well. Everymorning were incredible breakfasts featuring many foods from their ranch as well as the neighbroing farmstands. Fresh peaches, pears, figs, tomatoes, onions, cheeses, sausages as well as local ranch meats. Dinners were spectacular.
One day was spent exploring Montevideo and lunch at the Old Port area where there were dozens of parillas to choose from. Enjoyed the experience but one day there is enough. Second day was more of Colonia. There is something about this village that entrances us. Spent the whole day walking and shopping. Third day was a Punta del Este beach and lunch day. Dissapointed in the city. It was the shoulder of tourist season but was very glad we choose not to rent there and choose the ranch instead. It was close enough to make an easy day trip - but Punta seemed so Miami beach with little to do. Too typical.
Jacqueline recommended a closer beach area about 9 miles away - Atlantida - which we loved. It was more of an old town and had more happening. Absolutely loved the tranquil beach where the Plata river meets the ocean. Some great architecture.
BUT - the highlight was just chilling at the ranch. There is a locale farmstand run by a woman named Valentina - which was sweet. Incredible canned jams and home gown fruits - both sweet and savory. Pickled yellow banana peppers, grapes and apples in wine. Home made sausage and cheese.
In retrospect - I would recommend a family choose the ranch and avoid Punta.
For a family - a day of local fishing, horseback riding on the ranch - perfect
This 100 year old family complex includes a group of homes and casitas, magnificent vineyard, commercial olive grove, pastures and horse ranch and is situated within a short drive to Punta del Este, Montevideo, and quaint farming villages. Easy driving place you in Uruguay's capital and its sightseeing or within 10 minutes deightful beaches of the Platta and the Atlantic Ocean. A bit longer drive allow you the pleasure of Punta del Este yet with a luxurious compound for easy and memorable family evenings.
