The 'whispering' pines. Set in a stand of mature pines, on a beautiful bay, ShangriLodge is the definition of serenity.
Peaceful yet convenient to many amenities.
Our adult children came from different parts of the country and gathered at Ken and Claire's home for an impromptu "tubing weekend." We were welcomed by a big plate of home made scrumptious cookies which were enjoyed by all! The weekend was somewhat rainy/misty at times and we still had an incredibly happy time together, with plenty of space to spread out, bedrooms for all, a bathroom on all 3 levels, games galore, a well equipped kitchen, and a couple of forays out onto the lake with kayaks. There is a nice dock with clear sandy bottom for swimming, kayaks, canoes and a paddle boat, two fire rings, and a super quiet and peaceful environment. The lake view is beautiful from the upper and lower deck, with many comfy places to sit and lounge. We prepared luscious meals and enjoyed eating them out on the deck under a large umbrella, with festive globe lights for added effect. Jack's Canoe Rental and Tubing was 25 minutes away in Trego and it was a blast. They do a great job, with rental, driving you up to a drop off point, and you take your time meandering down the Namekagon River, ending at Jack's where we enjoyed great ice cream as a grand finale' treat. Ken & Claire were incredibly kind, very responsive, quick to return text inquiries, and a pleasure to get to know them through the environment they have created at Shangri-Lodge.
Once again our family enjoyed a fabulous week in Shangri Lodge. We were there 3 years ago when the dam was being repaired. It was so fun enjoying the water on the flowage area. Claire and Ken are such gracious hosts. This place has everything! We are so grateful that they share this piece of paradise with us. It is so nice to have a restful week away from the hustle and bustle.

Our family had a wonderful time at the Shangri Lodge. The grandkids were out swimming everyday at 8:00. The pontoon was great for fishing and visiting other beaches. Our son-in-laws enjoyed using the kayaks and the kids loved the big noodles. We had a fire every night. The lodge was beautiful inside and out. The guys caught fish on the dock and with the pontoon and we had a fish fry on Wednesday. We had one day of rain. It was a relaxing 4 days. Thanks to Ken and Claire for the makings for the s'mores. The kitchen was fully stock and plenty of pots and pans for cooking some of the fresh vegetables that we bought at the famers markets on our way to the lodge. Very nice outside grill. We would definitely come back to this wonderful place. Thanks for having us an I hope we left the place in decent shape. Loved the humming birds!!! I almost forgot the Pogo's pizza was great!!
Just spent a week at the Shangri-Lodge. Everything is so charming and it felt like home. They have everything! The property is ideally located and the Minong Flowage is very nice and so much to do. Sand Island you can beach your boat and let the kids out to swim and just relax. We rented the pontoon and other than a day or two it rained, we were on it all the time. The bay the chalet is on is always very calm and and just enjoyable sitting on the pier fishing for blue gills or watching for the eagles. We've stayed at other VRBO's that say that have everything but you get there and you have one bath towel per person or no beach towels. Not so the case here!!! They really had everything you need and it made everything so homey. Pogo's is a great restaurant that you can get to by boat or car. Awesome pizza--we also had the walleye prepared several different ways (sandwich, fish and chips, baked) and it was melt in your mouth good. There are two small restaurants in Minong, Flapjacks and I Wendy's Cafe. Wendy's Cafe we had breakfast one day and I don't think I ever recall having such a perfect omelette. The grocery store in town has everything you need and prices are fair--except maybe for the liquor which is normal. This was such a relaxing week for us and we just loved the Shangri-Lodge. It meet and exceeded our expectation. We are hoping we can get the family together again and go back. This is definitely a place you want to do repeat visits.
My group of seven friends absolutely LOVED the cabin. It was decorated with a wonderful Northwoods vibe, and there was plenty of room to lounge both indoors and out. The kitchen was fully stocked with everything we needed. One of the best things was the access to three kayaks, a canoe, a rowboat, and other water toys. We had a ton of fun exploring the Minong Flowage. I am sure I will be back!
I'll start with the pictures don't do this place justice. When you first walk up, the house and the landscaping is absolutely gorgeous! The decor inside is welcoming and fun. The place was equipped with everything we needed and more. We even had fresh baked cookies waiting for us! There are so many spots to relax at Shangri Lodge...the front porch, screened in porch, back deck, two fire pits, dock, and several seating areas inside. It's great for kids too! Our's loved running around the yard, fishing off the dock and taking rides on the paddle boat and kayaks. There are several dishes and cookware to make cooking easy. We really enjoyed making our own meals and eating on the deck. The scenery is just beautiful! And watching the sunsets from the fire pit was a sight you don't want to miss!
Excellent canoeing on Namekagon River just 15 minutes away (St, Croix National Scenic Riverway), several golf courses less than 20 minutes away (Black Bear is 10 minutes away), great fishing on the flowage and
surrounding lakes, wildlife viewing (eagles, deer, bear, loons, geese, etc, ), boating on Lake Superior just an hour away, 4-Wheeling, lots of local festivals/activities including the Birkebeiner cross-country ski race, Hayward Muskyfest and Lumberjack festivals, Spooner Rodeo, Minong Summerdays and Gordon Good Neighbor Days.
