Two Bedroom, Authentic Colorado Mountain Cabin with Mountain Views

About Annie and Jon Frykholm
We are Jon and Annie Frykholm and have been creating handcrafted, household furnishings and accessories for over thirty years. Several years ago we embarked on a new dream; to build a cabin that felt like it had stepped out of the Rocky Mountain past. A great deal of thought and care was taken to create the vintage feel of Box Creek Cabin, which, we believe, gives a strong nod back to a charmed, bygone era. The cabin's post and beam infrastructure, wood paneling and pine flooring is entirely hand crafted utilizing local beetle-kill, lodgepole pine and spruce. These raw materials were hand collected and milled by Jon on his sawmill and processed in such a way as to take advantage of unique characteristics in the wood. In addition, Jon custom designed and constructed all of the windows to mimic those found in historic cabins. It was equally important for us to construct the cabin with a small environmental footprint, preserving as many trees and native ground cover surrounding the cabin as was possible. In keeping with this, it was also a priority for us to maintain the environmental integrity throughout the cabin’s construction, using water based/plant based stains and linseed oil for the preservation of all wood surfaces, where feasible, (on all wood surfaces, except the kitchen and bathroom counters). So, this explains the nuts and bolts side of how, but perhaps, more importantly, why? Our inspiration to build the cabin grew from decades of treasured times staying at a historic cabin, (belonging to some very generous friends), not far from here in the Homestake Valley and the Holy Cross Wilderness area. From our beloved time at the Homestake cabin, grew a desire to share this same type of experience with others. A place where one has the opportunity to connect with a more simple way of living, make some discoveries, hear one’s own thoughts, create wonderful, lifelong memories with loved ones, and experience the Glory of our Creator and His Creation.
Why Annie and Jon Frykholm chose Twin Lakes
Box Creek Cabin is truly a step away from the "hustle and bustle" of life. We chose the area of Twin Lakes because of its' stunning mountain vistas and because it feels like Colorado as it use to be; undeveloped and slower paced. The location of Box Creek Cabin is protected from the wind and harsh sun that one would find on the south facing side of the ridge, but is still in sight of the majesty of the tallest peaks in the Sawatch Range and surrounding Upper Arkansas Valley. We have found Twin Lakes and the surrounding area to have a certain mystic that can not necessarily be quantified!
What makes this Cabin unique
We can say that the location of this cabin is one of the most charmed and peaceful places we have ever had the opportunity to experience; a perfect place for personal renewal and hearing that "still, small voice". "Be still, and know that I am God". Psalm 46:10

Cozy, comfortable and well maintained
Box Creek Cabin was the perfect place for our honeymoon getaway. Every need had been provided for us and we enjoyed the great view and tasteful decorative touches throughout the cabin. Its proximity to Leadville made it easy for us to do area sightseeing. We hope to return for an anniversary!
Great location and wonderful cabin
The owners definitely put a lot of thought into their design and build of this cabin - it's a great place to stay and recharge your batteries, spend time with loved ones, or just get away from it all. The cabin was clean, quiet, peaceful, and charming in every way. We will definitely be back!

Absolutely wonderful Cabin
This cabin is perfect if you are looking to get away. It has such fine detail and everything you need, and more, is included in the cabin. We enjoyed our stay, as well as hiking Mt. Elbert and skiing at Ski Cooper (about 25mins away and really cheap with awesome snow and trails). Highly recommended by my wife and I.
This is the second time I’ve stayed at this property and plan on returning again. It’s an incredible cabin in a beautiful location. The cabin has everything you need to make your stay unforgettable. I highly recommend this location for your mini or lengthy vacation stay.
This is a great getaway location.
A quiet getaway location, while close to hiking, fishing, and 4-wheel drive activities. But its the cabin itself that is special. Hand crafted with elaborate detail, this cabin is what one often dreams of in a Rocky Mountain getaway. The owners have made every stay special with coffee beans and grinder, bath robes, shampoo and conditioner dispensers in the shower, etc. The list goes on and on. Can't wait for our next stay.
Incredible. Well kept. Meticulously maintained.
This is an incredible property. Everything about it was exactly what we were looking for. We will come back here. A lot.
Box Creek Cabin is ideally located as the perfect base camp for many of Colorado's fouteener trail-heads. It is adjacent to endless miles of mountain biking and hiking trails. The Pro-Cycling Challenge bike course is only minutes away. Famed fly fishing on the Arkansas is a five minute drive as is lake fishing up at the Forebay and picturesque Twin Lakes. Aspen, Buena Vista, and Leadville are all within a short day trip from your front door! And so much more!
