Gorgeous historic home, 4 bedrooms, 5 baths, with spacious living areas
The historic Jefferson House, nestled in a vital and charming Victorian District neighborhood, offers elegant and comfortable accommodations for groups up to 9 people. The central location puts you within a five-minute walk to Forsyth Park, and area restaurants, shops and bars. Heading north just a few blocks, the Landmark District begins. Here you'll wander through squares lined with amazingly grand historic homes and shaded with sprawling live oaks, draped with Spanish moss. Continue on to superb shopping on lively Broughton Street and the city's many downtown museums, ending at Savannah's famous River Street and the river, where huge container ships come from all over the world.
The Jefferson House has been lovingly renovated and retains its historic details and layout. Decorated with simple elegance, this bright and spacious house is furnished with plush, comfortable couches and chairs. Sturdy occasional tables ensure you have a place to set your sweet tea or a glass of champagne, while recessed lights can set the mood for evening. Turn on the many period-appropriate lamps and curl up with one of the books on Savannah or history from the library shelves. Or slide up to the breakfast bar in the spacious, bright kitchen, with French doors opening to a paved courtyard, for coffee or lunch and conversation.
Jefferson House retains its triple-parlor first floor, which is perfect for groups large and small. These three areas are open to one another, yet each has its own focal point. Furniture is grouped for intimacy without creating barriers to the rest of the space. Socialize like residents did in the days of yore, with some interacting in the front parlor, and others playing games in the second. Today the "games" might be replaced with a movie on the flatscreen TV, but one thing is certain: each guest can have his or her own space and be able to socialize with those in one of the other parlor areas. The house is perfect for large families, or maybe two families, without stepping on one another's toes.
Upstairs the 4 bedrooms all have full baths en suite. Two bedrooms have their own porches. Each suite is simply decorated for comfort and function. The bedrooms are spacious, with plenty of closet space and a chair for reading or relaxing. (One bedroom has its own desk and chair; and there is another desk downstairs for everyone's use.) Fresh linens, quality mattresses and extra bedding and pillows help ensure a good night's sleep. Three bedrooms have queen beds, and one has two twins and a trundle -- great for kids!
Between the formal dining room (which can seat up to 9), the well-equipped kitchen with a breakfast bar and the table and chairs outside in the courtyard, there is no shortage of places to eat and enjoy each other's company. Casual or formal: the Jefferson House fits the bill.

excellent home for four couples or a family with children.
The location is wonderful if you enjoy the park and squares of Savannah. Although a walk to the river is possible it does take some time.
We are so pleased your group enjoyed their stay at Jefferson House. The close proximity to Forsyth Park is a true asset. In October and November, and any time, really, Savannah has so many offerings of fun things for families to do -- festivals, music, seasonal events, national events, entertainment at the Civic Center -- but the time spent in and around Forsyth Park can be just as gratifying for some. As for River Street: some people love to walk, others prefer transportation. Either way, it's within your realm of entertainment choices while staying at Jefferson House. We hope to see you again!
Spacious & room for 6 of us.
Clean and spacious
I loved the place it was a little further away from downtown than I thought but we figured it out
Thank you for taking the time to write a review! So glad you loved Jefferson House. It is located in the Victorian District, just a few blocks from Forsyth Park and the Historic Landmark District. It's also centrally positioned between downtown and the Starland Art District. Some guests walk to Bay Street downtown and others choose to drive or take an Uber or another form of transportation. We're glad you figured it out, and hope to see you again!
Excellent location for accessing the many great sites in Savannah
This home was easy to get information on and book. The staff was helpful and courteous. The house suited the 7 of us well! It was beautiful, very clean, comfortable and had plenty of room. It has parking for an auto but not a shuttle. We cooked several meals. The dishwasher, oven and refrigerator were great. We were disappointed in the lack of yard but thankful for a charcoal grill in good condition. On leaving we reported an issue with the range top. We would have like an ice maker, a baking sheet and some better pans but realize most visitors will not be doing the extensive cooking we did. The internet worked perfectly with more than one of us on computers at the same time. It was a great adventure for our girls!
Wonderful house. Well-stocked kitchen. Within a 10 block walking distance of everything. Within two or three blocks of the trolley.
Jefferson House is an ideal place to base your Savannah vacation. Here you will enjoy an established residential neighborhood, with quick and easy access to Downtown Savannah, Forsyth Park, Tybee Island and other area attractions. Our recommendation is to start with the 22-acre historic Forsyth Park. Try a morning stroll or power walk around the park, ending with a breakfast of specialty coffee and home baked goodies at the Sentient Bean. (Another great breakfast/lunch place, Rumrunner's Cafe, is just a few blocks in the other direction.) There are so many ways to enjoy Forsyth -- including people- and bird-watching, identifying trees and shrubs, or just sitting by the famous fountain, where an artist may be capturing the scene on canvas or a musician might be playing a violin or flute for tips. What's more, there is a good chance a festival or activity is going on at the park during your stay, and is free and open to the public.
You can eat well in and around Forsyth Park. Restaurants and bars include the upscale 700 Drayton, Casimir's lounge (tres chic), and healthful lunch items at the Sentient Bean. Right next door to "The Bean," Brighter Day is "health central" with organic groceries, natural supplements and beauty supplies; pick up a deli sandwich and drink to enjoy at the park. Or try the Forsyth Cafe, where you can sit inside or at one of the outdoor tables -- right in the middle of it all. Evening hours might find you at the American Legion bar on Bull Street, rubbing elbows with the locals. Hungry? Grab a burger at Betty Bombers, also in the historic Legion Hall, before heading home.
Fine dining is a way of life here, and Savannah is flush with excellent restaurants. The ones in the Jefferson House vicinity include Local 11Ten, at Bull and W. Duffy. Critically acclaimed, this is one of Savannah's top eating establishments. Further downtown, as well as south to the Starland Art District and Ardsley Park, you'll find scores of eateries, ranging from Southern cooking to fusion, ethnic, locally grown, Japanese/sushi, Thai, German, Mexican, Greek -- you name it!
Heading north along Whitaker Street is Savannah's Design District. Shops here carry everything from haute couture, home furnishings, eclectic art, stationery, funky clothing and more. Mercer House of "Midnight in the Garden of Good and Evil" fame is in this area.
The array of things to see and do, all within walking distance of Jefferson House, is almost endless. Along the way, Savannah's celebrated squares are fabulous places to stop for a rest, to reflect, even regroup. Traveling by car, you have options that include everything Savannah and the surrounding area have to offer. And, at the end of the day, you come home to elegance and comfort at the Jefferson House. Enjoy!
