Non-Smoking Oyster Reef, our beach retreat can be yours. Golfing & Fishing are really great in our mild winters. Located just 45 minutes from New Orleans, it is a world apart. Custom built 4 years ago our home is set in a stand of majestic live oak trees, which makes it a birders paradise for watching resident and migrant birds. The home is beachfront with a very wide, very deep, very private screened front porch spanning the front of the home. Follow the oyster and shrimp boats fishing on the Mississipppi Sound of the Gulf of Mexico. Golfing and fishing are year around activities here on the MS Gulf Coast - 2 excellent golf courses located in Pass Christian. Fishing pier located just down the beach at our harbor. Or take a charter boat out for deep water fishing in the Gulf.
Our private pool is large and features a pleasant deck with table and chairs for picnics.
Non-smoking property - minimum one month rental.
The interior of the home has 12 foot ceilings, beautiful crown molding, ceiling fans and wide pine floors throughout.
The large living room is highlighted by French doors opening onto the front porch, and a wood burning fireplace. The dining room seats up to eight and includes a floor-to-ceiling closet with wine cooler. The kitchen features a double wall oven, gas range top, granite counters, lighted wall pantry and lots of cabinets and shelf space. Laundry room with washer & dryer is in the living area.

In this quaint little town, you can enjoy golfing, tennis, fishing, boating, walking and hiking, beachcombing, sunbathing and a beautiful harbor filled with historic fishing boats and modern recreational craft. Downtown Pass Christian features wonderful restaurants, pubs and gift and specialty shops.
Golfers really appreciate the two golf courses located in Pass Christian, Timber Ridge and The Oaks, plus multiple others on the coast. These are popular year around with our mild weather.
Boaters/Fishermen - there are 5 boat launches within a mile of Oyster Reef, plus multiple public piers, and of course, salt water wade fishing right out our front door.

George Rayborn grew up in Hattiesburg in southern Mississippi and Maureen got here as soon as she could, right out of college. From then on, although living in the north-east, our love affair with Mississippi, especially the coast, grew.
Both retired attorneys, we do volunteer work in Pass Christian and our other home of Deleware. We enjoy our time at Oyster Reef and know that you will too. Our hint, our local library is one of the best, with not only books, DVD's & computers, but events & concerts.
Our good friend, Gayla Schmitt, handles most of the arrangements for renting Oyster Reef for us, as well as being a local presence to help with any special needs. 'Where can I find fresh shrimp? At the harbor on the boats'
Gayla Schmitt purchased this house in 2004
We have lived in Pass Christian at different times over the past 40 years. In 2004, we bought a lovely old home surrounded by live oak trees on this beachfront land on West Beach Boulevard. A year later, Hurricane Katrina washed away our home and its guest cottage. The only things that survived were the trees and our mailbox. Over the next several years, we lived in various places, including a FEMA trailer and out of state, while we built a new small rear cottage first, and finally this wonderful, Creole-style home overlooking the Gulf of Mexico. The house is furnished with lovingly restored furniture from my childhood home, along with new, bright, fun beach-type pieces and artwork. We love the new house and we think that you will too. Our front screened porch is what brings us back, always. Just sit and watch the fishermen, dolphins & white sand beach, while enjoying your book.
Where else can you look out from your porch and watch the 'tongers' bringing in oysters on the reef, then go to the harbor and buy them fresh? Of course, there are also the shrimpers and fresh shrimp or just go to our local restaurants and let them cook it. All of these are what make us want to keep returning to Oyster Reef.
People - we have the friendliest, most-hospitable people in the world in Pass Christian. Just ask someone for directions and the next thing you know, you'll be sharing lunch.
I can't say enough good things about this location, house, or contact. Gayla was responsive answering all my many questions and even worked with me to adjust my dates. Pass Christian is small and private - just what we were looking for. And the people are SO FRIENDLY! We went to Shaggy's, which is a great experience (try the beach balls!), and to Bacchus on the Beach (I had these french fries with something they called "debris" but is a fantastic pot roast). We walked quite a bit. The house, though, is fantastic! High ceilings, comfy furniture, fully stocked kitchen. The pool was lovely, but the screened in porch is my favorite, shaded by HUGE live oaks with a view of the beach and water. You are probably 100 yards from the water's edge. It's wonderful. I would definitely stay here again. Thank you!
This is a delightful place for a relaxing vacation! It's in an ideal location--apart enough to have plenty of privacy in the house, pool, and on the beach. Yet it's also near many attractions, shopping, and restaurants. We had a wonderful two weeks relaxing on the screened porch, building sand castles, swimming in the ocean and pool, flying kites, taking walks, watching dolphins--we could have stayed longer! The house has everything needed for your ideal vacation!
Outstanding property for family vacation, I would recommend this property for anyone to use. The Manager of the property is very responsive and handles any and all issues immediately. Don't let this opportunity for an outstanding family vacation pass you by.
This is was our second stay at Oyster Reef and we are booked for 2016. Our fav thing about the house is the lovely screened in porch. The view of the gulf and especially the ocean breeze are wonderful. Thanks to Gayla and Jim for all of your recommendations on things to do and places to dine.
We are from Germany, we've rented many homes over the last 20 years.
We just had an amazing month in this beautiful home. Everything was just perfect and we had a fantastic time. The home is very nicely decorated and very clean. The kitchen is great and we loved it to prepare our meals. The neighbors are very friendly.
The fishing was not so good (not the best time of year). My husband tried all fishing piers, no success. But we enjoyed the beautiful beaches. Unfortunately, between the beach and the house is a busy road.
Thanks for the nice time in your house.
Dagmar and Reinhard
Beware! The house is lovely, the location is wonderful, the town is friendly and interesting. We are an elderly couple and we stayed for six weeks. We did very little. Walks on the beach, lots of reading by the pool... Most of our cooking was small meals at the house. We thought that this had been a great vacation -- until the end. What a surprise. We had to call to ask for our security deposit back. The manager told us that we had broken a lamp, had parties, left mounds of sand on the floor and left the place unbelievably dirty and had STOLEN towels. What? The lamp she said we broke was one we had never used -- we certainly did not break it. We swept up every week. We were on the beach every day -- there was sand, we swept it up. We never had any visitors at the house -- let alone a party. We washed all linens and towels regularly, we washed counters, ran the dishwasher a few times a week and generally straightened up. The idea that we would steal was the worst of all the things the manager claimed. We never steal anything, anywhere -- let alone towels!
We are an elderly couple. I have woken in the middle of the night for many weeks now reliving the accusation of having stolen something. While the house is wonderful, the management made me feel that I had been lied to and cheated. We paid clean up fee (in addition to the security deposit). It is true that we did not wash bathroom floors or toilets -- we were on vacation and we thought we were paying for that in the cleaning fee --- we did not abuse this lovely house or leave it in a poor state. We put blankets over the south/east bedroom windows because there are no drapes and we do not like to wake with the rising sun. We called the manager and told her that we were covering those windows. We used the compression traverse rods that were in the closet to hang the blankets – the manager claimed we put holes in the blankets -- we did not. I feel lied to and cheated and abused. We did get 20% of our security deposit back. We asked for an itemized accounting and a copy of the 'repair bill' for the lamp that we never used -- but got none. There was no inventory or initial accounting or leaving process. You are at the mercy of whatever management makes up. I suggest you take photos of everything at move in and move out. We have rented over a dozen homes and condos on Home Away/VRBO in the last few years. We had never had a cent of any of our security deposits taken before.

With New Orleans & the French Quarter only 1 hour away and Casino Row only 20 minutes away in Biloxi, it's hard to remember that Relaxation is the main 'must do' at the beach here in Pass Christian. Walking is a popular activity here, as well as Sunset watching.
