About Maureen & George Rayborn
George Rayborn grew up in Hattiesburg in southern Mississippi and Maureen got here as soon as she could, right out of college. From then on, although living in the north-east, our love affair with Mississippi, especially the coast, grew. Both retired attorneys, we do volunteer work in Pass Christian and our other home of Deleware. We enjoy our time at Oyster Reef and know that you will too. Our hint, our local library is one of the best, with not only books, DVD's & computers, but events & concerts. Our good friend, Gayla Schmitt, handles most of the arrangements for renting Oyster Reef for us, as well as being a local presence to help with any special needs. 'Where can I find fresh shrimp? At the harbor on the boats'
Maureen & George Rayborn purchased this House in 2004
Why Maureen & George Rayborn chose Pass Christian
We have lived in Pass Christian at different times over the past 40 years. In 2004, we bought a lovely old home surrounded by live oak trees on this beachfront land on West Beach Boulevard. A year later, Hurricane Katrina washed away our home and its guest cottage. The only things that survived were the trees and our mailbox. Over the next several years, we lived in various places, including a FEMA trailer and out of state, while we built a new small rear cottage first, and finally this wonderful, Creole-style home overlooking the Gulf of Mexico. The house is furnished with lovingly restored furniture from my childhood home, along with new, bright, fun beach-type pieces and artwork. We love the new house and we think that you will too. What makes this House unique
Our front screened porch is what brings us back, always. Just sit and watch the fishermen, dolphins & white sand beach, while enjoying your book. Where else can you look out from your porch and watch the 'tongers' bringing in oysters on the reef, then go to the harbor and buy them fresh? Of course, there are also the shrimpers and fresh shrimp or just go to our local restaurants and let them cook it. All of these are what make us want to keep returning to Oyster Reef. People - we have the friendliest, most-hospitable people in the world in Pass Christian. Just ask someone for directions and the next thing you know, you'll be sharing lunch.

We didn’t want to leave!
The VRBO photos don’t do Oyster Reef justice, inside or out. The view of the beach from the screened in porch was beautiful. The pool was pristine and private, with floats to drift around enjoying the sun. The fenced-in yard was perfect for our dogs. Inside the furnishings were comfortable and cozy. Lots of places to nap and read. The kitchen was stocked and I loved the gas stove. Overhead lighting was abundant. Downtown Pass Christian offered great shopping and eats. Our favorite was Hook’s Restaurant. And a special surprise was the short drive to Bay Saint Louis beach (where dogs are allowed), and our 2 dogs learned to swim there! The day before we left we had major regrets that we didn’t book Oyster Reef for several more weeks. You won’t be disappointed with your stay here.
We enjoy our stay and love the fenced in yard.
We enjoyed our stay and Gayla was very helpful.
We enjoyed our 7 week stay at Oyster Reef. The house was wonderful, warm an inviting, with incredible views.
It comes fully furnished and well stocked, with lots of amenities and all the comforts of home.
The screened in front porch was great for : relaxing, dining, morning coffee, evening cocktails, reading a good book, watching the fisherman and boats go by, admiring the family of pelicans that hang out near the pier and maybe if you're lucky you might see dolphins swimming and playing in the surf.
We started and ended every day on that great porch.
Our children, grandchildren and other family members from 1-85 also enjoyed relaxing and hanging out in the large pool. The outdoor shower and bathroom was ideal and came in handy.
The manager Gayla and her husband Jim are the 2 nicest people you will ever meet. They are always a text or phone call away. We are looking forward to our next visit.
Our September at Oyster Reef Cottage in the 'Pass' was perfect. A serene spot on the Mississippi Gulf Coast. The house is beautiful and the layout works great for both family and private time. The screen porch was the place to be! Watching the water, fishing boats, beachcombers, and the busy world passing by. We enjoyed cool breezes through the live oaks dripping with Spanish moss, reminiscent of days gone. Everyone we met from Bay Saint Louis to Ocean Springs was gracious and helpful. We felt like we were home. We are all ready for more time in the 'Pass'.
Pass Christian Paradise
Our vacation at Oyster Reef was wonderful! The home was lovely and the fenced yard was perfect for our dog. We enjoyed sitting on the screened porch as well as relaxing in the back yard next to the pool. The home had all of the amenities we required, and Gayla and her husband were very helpful with any questions we had. We would, definitely, stay here for future vacations.
I can't say enough good things about this location, house, or contact. Gayla was responsive answering all my many questions and even worked with me to adjust my dates. Pass Christian is small and private - just what we were looking for. And the people are SO FRIENDLY! We went to Shaggy's, which is a great experience (try the beach balls!), and to Bacchus on the Beach (I had these french fries with something they called "debris" but is a fantastic pot roast). We walked quite a bit. The house, though, is fantastic! High ceilings, comfy furniture, fully stocked kitchen. The pool was lovely, but the screened in porch is my favorite, shaded by HUGE live oaks with a view of the beach and water. You are probably 100 yards from the water's edge. It's wonderful. I would definitely stay here again. Thank you!
With New Orleans & the French Quarter only 1 hour away and Casino Row only 20 minutes away in Biloxi, it's hard to remember that Relaxation is the main 'must do' at the beach here in Pass Christian. Walking is a popular activity here, as well as Sunset watching. Golf is a major attraction on the Gulf Coast, especially in winter, with 2 courses in Pass Christian, Timber Ridge and The Oaks, plus Grand Bear and many others within an easy drive.
Build your appetite for local shrimp, oysters or fish bought from the fishermen on their boats, whether cooked in your modern kitchen or at any of several local restaurants.
26 miles of open beaches give a beautiful entrance to several world class art Museums - Ohr O'keefe Museum, designed by Geary to showcase potter George Ohr in Biloxi and the Walter Anderson Museum in Ocean Springs.
Plan to visit lots of local restaurants as well as our Saturday Market in the Park for fresh produce and art gifts to take home.
So, if you want to spend time at the BlackJack tables or top name concert at a casino or just entertain your grandchildren in the pool or at the beach with sandcastle building, Pass Christian is the place and Oyster Reef is the beach house for you.
