Cable House Rental Photos and Description

4 bdrms, 2 bath, one level, accessible lakehome

This beautiful, 4 bedroom, 2 bathroom, lake home is pet friendly and fully wheelchair accessible. It has an attached, heated garage, laundry room, and is all on one level. The home is on beautiful Lake Namakagon and is also at the headwaters of the Namakagon River, a national wild and scenic river, in the Chequamagon National Forest just outside Cable, WI. For boating and fishing enthusiasts you will have the best of both worlds. Just head out one way to the lake or go under the bridge to the river.

Our lakehome has an open floor plan all on one level with easy access to the lake, dock, trails and surrounding area. The four bedrooms sleep 11 comfortably and are ideal for two families with children, four couples, or a large group of friends. All beds are wheelchair accessible heights. The open floor plan makes for great entertaining. Check out the extra large, fully stocked kitchen with more cupboards than your grandma ever dreamed of. The accessible bathroom has a shower with a small, 2" threshold making for an easy transfer.

Lake Namakagon is known for world class fishing and is one of three trophy muskie lakes in WI. Lake Superior and Bayfield WI are just one hour away for sea kayaking, fishing, skiing, shopping and sightseeing adventures. The world famous sea caves are there, too. Before heading out to the sea caves check with the National Park Service for safe conditions. It's a short hike from the parking area at Meyer's Beach in the winter, which is a spectacular experience. You can paddle to the sea caves from various locations. We recommend going out to the sea caves on a guided tour if its your first time. Lake Superior is amazing but conditions and weather can change quite rapidly.

In winter enjoy cross country skiing on the nearby Birkie and other trail systems, snowshoeing, snowmobiling and ice fishing right out the door. A heated ice fishing house is included with your rental. Call or email us for details.

You can ski over 170+ kilomenters of the Birkie and other nearby trails. The beautiful Rock Lake Trail is just minutes away. You are also not far from the Drummond Trail System, Michigan's UP, and nearby waterfalls and state parks. Snowmobile trails, snowshoeing, fat biking and icefishing are just right out the door. For summer activities we provide 4 kayaks, a canoe and a one man fishcat (non-motorized pontoon with oars). The attached heated garage makes it ideal for tuning skis or returning from your outdoor winter adventure (or just keeping the car warm). There are hundreds of lakes, rivers and trails (hiking, mountain/fat biking, four wheeling, skiing, showshoeing and snowmobiling) in the area including the world famous Birkie Ski Trails and Camba Mountain Bike Trails.

Enjoy skiing, snowshoeing, fat biking, and snowmobiling in winter/ swimming, fishing, boating, paddling, biking, 4-wheeling, and hunting in spring, summer and fall. For mountain and fat bike enthusiasts, we are minutes from the Chequamagon Area Mountain Bike Trails (CAMBA), including the epic Rock Lake Trail. Some of the Birkie Trails are now open to fat bikes. Cable hosts many world class skiing, fat and mountain bike events. Check the Cable Area of Commerce (www.cable4fun) for dates. More interested in relaxing? The Landing is a great place to get away from it all, read a good book, sit by the fireplace, watch a movie, cook a nice meal, or just watch the world go by. No matter what the season, you are sure to create a lifetime of memories.

Located just under 3 hours from the Twin Cities of Minneapolis and St. Paul, 1 hour from Duluth and Bayfield, WI and a little over 6 hrs from Chicago.

We understand the challenges of accessible travel and are committed to making Namakagon Landing the most accessible vacation rental on the planet. (It may already be, but we will continue to improve it and are open to your suggestions.) We provide a heated, wheelchair accessible ice fishing house with your rental for anyone interested in ice fishing in the comforts of a heated ice fishing house. Guests who use a wheelchair or have mobility issues can access the fish house from the drop down ramp and fish in the comfort of a heated shanty. Access to the lake and dock is provided by a boardwalk from the house to the lake. Check us out, like us on facebook, share with friends, and start making memories today. Overson Landings Vacation Rentals was created by and for people (or have a family member) with mobility issues, but all are welcome, including pets. Feel free to call or reply to this posting for a frank discussion about your needs. If you would like to talk/book with us directly please call Susan or Mark Overson at 952-270-3027. Checks/Visa/MasterCard Accepted.

We will soon have a fully accessible, 2 bedroom beach home on the Nicoya Peninsula of Costa Rica (in the beautiful village of Playa Hermosa near Santa Teresa, Mal Pais, and Montezuma). The house is fully accessible and has access to an adaptive surf camp, swimming pool with pully lift, and nearby amenities. Feel free to inquire about it's availability and to about accessible travel in general in Costa Rica. We have been there many times and can help guide you.

Check out the pictures and additional links (including a 360 degree video of the lake house and property) as well as pictures of the surrounding area and activities.

About Susan and Mark Overson

My husband (Mark) and I started Overson Landings Vacation Rentals in 2011 with Namakagon Landing. Mark uses a wheelchair and understands the needs of accessible travel. He is an adaptive skier, flies untralight airplanes, rides a hand cycle and paddles with adaptive kayak equipment. He has even tried adaptive surfing! Mark designed Namakagon Landing to be super easy to get around in a wheelchair or if you need a one-level home for mobility issues. I am a silent sports enthusiast with kayaking, cross country skiing (and now fatbiking) on the top of my list. Our kids are wakeboarders, snowboarders and surfers and like anything with speed but also enjoy paddling and boating. We all have enjoyed the area for many years and now have made our lakehome available as a vacation rental. We provide canoes and kayaks, easy access to lake and property, and 100% barrier free accommodations, including an accessible bathroom, attached heated garage, wheelchair access to dock, boats, wheelchair compatible bed heights (one adjustable), and much more. Our pontoon boat is fully accessible, too.

My husband and I met and lived in Colorado before returning to the midwest, where we raised our family and, more recently, started Overson Landings. We also have day jobs. I am a Landscape Architect with the National Park Service and Mark recently retired from Fairview Orthopedic Lab. We have twin boys who are in college and are getting better at being empty nesters (we think).

Overson Landings will soon have a fully accessible beach 2 bedroom home on the Nicoya Peninsula of Costa Rica (in the beautiful village of Playa Hermosa near Santa Teresa, Mal Pais, and Montezuma). The house is fully accessible and has access to an adaptive surf camp, swimming pool with pully lift, and nearby amenities. Feel free to inquire about it's availability and to inquire about accessible travel in Costa Rica. Namakagon Landing is your accessible vacation rental but all are welcome.

Why Susan and Mark Overson chose Northern Wisconsin

This one level lakehome with attached, heated garage has very easy access to house, level access to Lake Namakagon and is just a paddle stroke away from the headwaters of the Namakagon River and Lake Namakagon. We want everyone, including people with mobility issues, to enjoy the area as much as we have with as few barriers as possible. We have been vacationing in Cable since our kids were little (over 21 years) and enjoy the area immensely. We found the property while on vacation in the area and fell in love with it. Namakagon Landing is not your typical rental. It was started by and for people with mobility issues, but all are welcome to enjoy our northwoods paradise.

What makes this house unique

The property is 100 % barrier free, has easy access to the lake via a level boardwalk and lot, and is in the most beautiful area of northern Wisconsin. It is a kayaking, fishing, boating, cross country, mountain/fatbiking, and snowmobile lovers paradise near world class XC ski, snowmobile, and mountain bike trails, for those who are interested in those sports. The area is also know for its world class fishing and hunting. The area is an active sports community for all outdoor activities. The para-Olympics were hosted in Cable in the winter of 2012 and 2013 and returned in January 2015 (and hopefully 2016). It's an awesome event as is the American Birkebiener and Chaquamagon Fat Tire festival. Cable is a very small and quaint town not far - 10 minutes from cabin/ 20 minutes from Hayward, WI, where you will find most services, medical facilities, more shopping and restaurants. The town of Cable, WI is very remote and relaxing with no traffic, chain restaurants or stores, and stoplights. Most of the restaurants and stores are accessible, as is getting around town. At the lake, all you hear are loons, frogs, and the ripple of the water (and, of course, jumping fish). It has created many wonderful memories in the four years we've owned it for us and our guests. We know you'll love the area as much as we do.

Adventure Right Outside the Door

  • 5 of 5

My husband Dave and I met some friends at "Overson Landing" during the Chequamegon Fat Tire Festival. We utilized the kayaks provided in the garage to paddle right from the house (which is the headwaters of the Namakagon River) to the dam which is about a 45 minute paddle away. Quiet, peaceful, and an easy paddle with an amazing sunset. The next day we drove about 10 minutes to do some mountain biking on the Patsy Lake Trail - some technical stretches without being too hilly. The house had everything we needed to relax and enjoy our time in Cable - kitchen was stocked, bedrooms were well appointed, and our dog got to join us too! You can rent the really nice pontoon for extra. We recommend the location and the house.

Fatbike Birkie

  • 5 of 5

Some friends and I came down to ride the Fatbike Birkie in early March and had an excellent stay! Plenty of room in the heated garage to tune our bikes the night before the race, and a nice large kitchen to cook in. Had a little bit of trouble with the ignitor on the gas grill, but found a long lighter inside and cooked up some elk backstrap. Nice comfy beds, plenty of room to stretch out in the living room, and quiet neighborhood for a relaxing stay. We live on the North Shore of Lake Superior and as a home builder have a lot of experience with vacation rental properties and I'd rate this one as a pretty typical of rental properties up here. Nothing fancy or overly striking, but a practical build for a house being shared with strangers. There is an additional booking fee and cleaning charge to consider when staying, which pushed the price up over $800 for a two night stay. That said, the space was clean, warm, and a nice place to come back to after the race. I would consider staying here again for future Fatbike Birkie's.

Owner's Response: Anton, Thanks so much for your very thoughtful review. Glad you had a nice stay. I'll look forward to hearing about you placing or being on a podium at the Fat Birkie someday. Our place has been good luck for other competitors (Birkie and Fat Tire Events) so, hopefully, for you, too. Let us know if there is anything we can do to improve your stay. I look forward to having you back soon. Susan Overson

Fun in the Fall

We loved the beauty of the scenery. Completely enjoyed the ability to utilize all the amenities the acessible house had to offer. Enjoyed traveling through the state park and seeing all of the little shop the town had to offer. Definitely would recommend to our friends and family.

Great!

  • 5 of 5

Our group of 3 couples stayed at Namakagon Landing over Labor Day weekend and we had a great time. It's far enough from town to be relaxing, but close enough to be able to make a grocery store run if you need to. We were only there for a short time, so I can't comment on the outdoor activities in the area (which I'm sure are fantastic, because it's a beautiful location) -- we were more than happy to just enjoy reading a book in the yard, going fishing on the lake, and enjoying dinners at "home."

The owners, Susan and Mark, are fantastic to work with and very quick to respond to any question or concern you may have. And they have definitely succeeded in their goal of creating the most accessible place on the planet! Finding a great vacation spot where we can bring our big dog is hard enough, but our dog has 3 legs, and most cabins have steep access to the lake, plus stairs inside the home. To be able to bring him to a 100% accessible property where we didn't have to help him up a single stair or lift him out of the boat was a dream come true!

Be sure to check out the "Links to More Information" for more photos. The home is very clean and well maintained; what you see is what you get! And the kitchen really is as huge as it looks :)
